It most DEFINITELY is CapitalOne. No question, legitimate. They just called me, had all of my info already, asked for none, and gave me an accurate update on an ongoing fraud investigation. Very, very legitimate.

This is a legitimate CapitalOne fraud department number. DEFINITELY REAL. They were calling about a specific fraud case I had in place, and had full, accurate details, asked for no identifying information from me, and provided an accurate update. 100% legitimate.

This might be a Capital One fraud number, however, I do not have a Capital One card...so why did they call me and not leave a message???

This is definitely a SCAM....
Just got off phone with Capital One (#on back of my card). Supervisor verified it is NOT Capital One!! When you do call the 1-800-215-1921 ext #2910815 "Tamera" there is a message to leave your 16 account # and Social Security # !!!!! No No No
Capital would NEVER ask you to do that and on a voice mail of all things... For those of you that still think it is legitimately Capital One and provided that info... I hope you read this and go check your accounts IMMEDIATELY ....this SCAM co. Is good but please don't fall for it. Also these "scammers" are also posting on these boards saying that it is legit!! BE CAREFUL

i just got a call from this number. they could not tell me which fraud claim this came from. at first, he said it was a couple of times before. similar to other people's comments, the connection was bad and the persons diction was poor. the big red flag was when they asked for my updated email address. i asked what email do they currently have. they gave me an email that is nothing like my real email. i logged into Capital One at the same time and verified to myself that my account still shows with my correct email. i did not tell the person my correct email because i now doubted that they were real.

i asked for their phone number. they provided 800-215-1921 ext. 2910973; i said i would call them back.

i called Capital One and they verified that (1) that is NOT a Capital One extension and (2) they would never tell me my email address and then just ask me to give them the correct one.

trust your gut. just take a message. hang up. call Capital One yourself, using the phone number on their website.

This is a legitimate number, it is the Fraud Dept. of Capital One Credit Card.  I had a compromised card, and they called me to verify I had received my new card and see if I had any other problems.  I love Capital One, and appreciate the good service they provide me.  I wish they would tag their Caller ID with something other than "Toll Free Caller".  I didn't answer when it came through (twice) but they left helpful messages both times.  This is not a scam.

This is awkward and confusing... I did receive a call and they left a message (Alex) stating that they were from Capital Ones Fraud department. I called the number back, but the menu didn't make sense, everytime I pressed the number that corresponded to a menu item, it would take me to the wrong one. So I finally pressed 0. A gentleman came on saying his name was Mark. He asked if Alex gave me a reference number, I said no, he said: "Okay, in order to look up your account, I will need your credit card number." I said I didn't have it "He said, okay just give me your SSN." I told him that I didn't really feel comfortable with that. He hung up on me.
I called Capital One from the number on the back of my card, redirected to the Fraud department, and the woman said that no calls were made to my number from ANY Capital One representative in the last Month.
Also, when I was on the phone with "Mark", the phone kept sounding like one of us was losing service. But I was on a landline. So.... Take from that what you will, but to prevent something from happening, call the number on the back of the card and ask to be redirected to the fraud department.

Don't be fooled!  I don't even HAVE a Capital One card.... never did!  And they contacted me (leaving a message on my machine) telling me that they have dealt with my fraud case on the credit card and it is now closed and if I wanted to contact them for further information, I can call them at this number.  For those of you who think this is legit, you are a fool.  THIS right here is proof!

i received a phone call from another number a few weeks back and went through a bunch of questions. I DO NOT have a credit card through Capitol One and havent for over 10 years. They mailed me some paperwork to fill out and send back, yet they want me to write my ssn on the paperwork and also send them a copy of my drivers licence and ssn card. Before I received the paperwork in the mail, I received another phone call from the 800-215-1921 number, regarding the capitol one fraud department with a different case number. I am still unsure and these reviews are split 50/50 on being legit. I will take mine to the State Police today and have them look into this for me.

Oh I forgot to add, they say I opened up a credit card yet I never received a card or any bills but everything was sent to my address and my husband is home to check the mail right after its delivered. Seems a little scammy to me along with the fact that the Capitol One logo on the fraud paperwork is not in color, it is black and white and has indicia's of being a copy not the original.

This isn't a fraudulent number. Stop giving false information, people! I contacted Capital One through their secure website and this is the number they gave me to call their Fraud Department. Do your research before claiming fraud. So ridiculous.

I received a call from this number after filing a fraud complaint.  After googling the number and reading all of the insane comments on this page, I called the number on the back of my capital one card.  They verified that this number belongs to the capital one fraud department.

OK.. You all are "fraud crazy".  Let's make sure we know it's a fraud before we say it's a fraud.  I just contacted Capital One directly and they confirmed it.  Not only did they confirm it but I reveiwed an old email message on Capital One's secure message center and it's the exact same number.  The agent who contacted me just now didn't even want me to call him back.  He was calling to tell me my claims have been resolved and to expect a letter from Capital One in the mail notifying me of this.  This number is NO fraud.

Some woman called and identified herself as being with the Capital One Fraud Dept. and gave her first name (?) after I asked who was calling.  Asked for a family member.  I was puzzled because the number she called was not the family member's number .... strange.   Contacted the family member and told this person to call the customer service number on back of card.  Capital One Fraud Dept.  said that they did NOT call.  I believe that this was a spoofing call where the caller id picked up 800-215-1921 because the thieves set it up that way.  They are just trying to steal info so that they can do their dirty.  Since they seem to be so innovative, why don't they just go ahead and do a honest day's work!!!  Get the *ell out of our pockets --- deadbeats!

You really need to get the complete picture before you start calling people names.  It is called "Caller ID Spoofing."   This is the reason I always call the number on the back of my credit card.  I do not discuss anything with any person who calls me and states that they are with the bank.  Info thieves have called some of my family members trying to get SS#s, credit #s, etc.

Fake Caller ID and Caller ID Spoofing

What is Caller ID Spoofing?

Caller ID spoofing is a method in which a person can cause the telephone network to display a number on the recipient?s caller ID display which is not the number of the originating caller. The term is commonly used to describe deceptive situations in which the caller has bad motives. Since caller ID spoofing can make a phone call look like it?s coming from any phone number the caller wants and because people usually assume a call is actually coming from the number being displayed (and therefore, the associated person, persons, or organization), all kinds of things (both legal and illegal) can be done with such a manipulative ability.

This is a legitimate number for Capital One Fraud Department.  Anyone on here who tells you that it is not is lying.  I double checked with Capital One myself because I had to call them about my card.  I did it through the chat on their website as well as by phone.  This number is legit.

Just got a call from this number.  They asked for my business partner (our business recently went under) and then asked if this was this business.  They never asked for me by name just him.  I find it very odd that capital one (whom I have no account with) would have the wrong number for my business partner and they would call my cell phone.

Got a call from this number, answered and it was from Capital One.
He went over the various charges that I had filed as fraud, then said everything is being taken care of, and i didnt have to pay for any of these fraud charges and wished me a good day.
Didnt ask me any personal questions (or account info), just informing me that the Fraud that happened on my card (which i did file) was being credited back to me.
The posts on here are confusing as to which is true... Fraud or not...

I called Capital One number on my card and they found no reason why they would call us, they even checked with the fraud department.  They said it was a Capital One number but couldn't reach anyone at that extension. Something is off! Be careful!
