This company called, saying this was concerning my ex-wife.  Had to google the number to get the company name as they do speak very clearly when saying it. I called the number they kept asking if someone from that office tried to contact me.  They still did not say the name of their company so it could be understood.

I have had this company contacting people I have little to do with or havent seen or heard from for 5-10 yeaes.  I keep my license plate up to date, pay my taxes from the addresss I live at, and anything else I have to do is done under my current address and phone numbe, including a student loanThere are many with the lst name as mine, including my grown son and my xhusb, (who would be more than happy to give me this grief yet they calll my daughters in=laws who I have known only a year and have seen under 8 times, and have had no business dealings with them at all in any way.  They contacted someone who co-signed for a car for me way back in 2002 and the car has been paid off for over 2 years. They also, on several occasions, contacted someone who I went to college with in the 1990a and only knew her from school to the occational cup of coffee.  She has elderly parents who freak over things like this "why are they callinv us, what have we done, what list did she put us on?????" It has caused them much stress.  It IS illegal to call around looking for someone who owes (or not) money and the debt can be dismissed because of this behavior, at least in Illinois.  Myfriend who cosigned for me called me and gave me the number and I called and they even answered the phone as rudely as possible, I then said I had the wrong number.  I did block my number, but for them collecting a debt or solicitating it is illlegal (again) to block the number.  I never answer any number "unknown, private, 600,  with no other identification listed.

A Joe Stien with Genesee Valley Associates(585)273-6412 calls every day and has tried to get me to call him back on some kind of file that he says he was given. I assume this is some low life with an illegal  fraudulant collection agency. I will not return such calls as this for they are practicing collection activities illegally. They are an admitted third party collection agency and HAVE NO JURISDICTION. They MUST CEASE & DESIST all collection activities after being told to discontinue the daily harassment phone calls. Charges will be filed if Cease & Desist request is ignored

I just talked to my mother-in-law who decided to call them back.  GVA told her they were a law firm and that if she didn't pay the money she owed, they were going to sue her.  They called her a thief and that she needed to pay the money now.  They told her they would allow her to make monthly payments to them or she could pay them everything now.  She asked them to mail her documentation, and supposedly they are going to.  These jerks need to go down.

My dad received a call today from GVA regarding my MOTHER-IN-LAW!!  For one, why would they call my dad about my mother-in-law!!??  That doesn't make any sense.  They told him he was a relative contact and that they needed to talk to her about time sensitive material.  They told him to have her call them back immediately.  They gave him a phone number, 18774717847 and extension 208 and to ask for Brooke Thomas.  They also gave him a seven digit file number.  I called the company and they, OF COURSE, couldn't give me any information about it.  I later talked to my sister-in-law, and she told me her husband received the same phone call from the same company and the same Brooke Thomas, and that he was supposed to tell her mother to contact them right away.  I told my mother-in-law not to call them and that this was a scam.  But how come they called my dad and my sister-in-laws husband?  How do they make these connections?

Go to Bud hibbs and get yourself a lawyer.  NACA lawyers are good.  Take their statements on the phone.  paper recording means nothing in court.  Its self serving evidence.  Tape it!!!!  Making threats of arrest calling 30 times thats harassment especially after telling them to valadiate the debt.  Get the evidence then the NACA attorney.  They could take it on a continency basis.  NACA attorney's are members of the National Association of Consumer Attorney's The may be a listing in the yellow pages.  Try NACA attorney in google.

Network with others at Debtorboards.com.  A great sight to fight these scum sucking lowlifes.  Got to FTC.gov.  File a complaint.  Go to your attorney General of your state.  If you really want to get them rattled.

file a complaint with the New York Attorney General.  The AG there shut down a mob company with 4 different branches.  I am sure they would love to hear from you.

Don't give in to these snakes in the grass.  Laugh at them and file complaints, tape calls,  Get a NACA attorney.  Take a vacation on these dirtbags.

As for the dirtbags that tell people to pay their bills.  I laugh at you.  I owe no one and never will.  Get a life lowlife and take a long walk off a short pier.

VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).

Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.

You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.

Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

just got a call tonight from this company, GVA. I did not answer the phone (585) 273-6450 and let it go to voicemail. I called back and the person who answered the phone was rude. I asked what they do and she said, its a call center. I asked for what, she said many things. I told her i got a call and she put me thru to Molly. She told me my name was left a reference for someone and they havent been able to reach my mother. I asked what they do and she said they have a file on her and could not tell me what they need her for. I told them that its creepy and I am not relaying their cryptic message without knowing what they want..she said that unless i have power of attorney they cant tell me anything.  Then she said the stupidest thing, which was the 2nd indicator they are a scam..she told me if I have my mother call and with me on the phone, she gives me power of attorney, they can tell me what they want! I told her im not going to give them any information since they wont give me any information..  SCREW THESE PEOPLE! They are preying on people and in this day and age should be ashamed to look at themselves in the morning knowing what they do. I can only imagine how they would feel if this was their family that someone was trying to scam or if when they are older, it is them..

I also recieved many calls form this number.  I tried to call back but could not speak to a rep without a loan number.  I called 1-800-669-6607 (customer service for Bank of America) and said I did not have an account until I was connected with a human!  I told her the problem and was transfered.  The next lady helped me by asking for just my phone number and to verify address.  She asked me if I had ever heard of some man.  I said no, and she told me she would remove my number from the account.  She assured the calls would stop within 48 hours.

7/15/09 rcvd a call  female person had a thick accent wanting to discuss the 1,034.00 dollars I owed on a Visa acct. I told them I did not owe any money on a Visa acct. I asked for the number they were calling from it was 866 then I did not get the rest, but when I asked what agency the call was from It sounded like the Sims. It seems the person in question has the same first and last name as I do, but the middle initial is not the same and they live in Florida as I do. The caller then asked for the last 4 digits of my social security number, at which point I told her I would not give out that info. By this time I'm pretty heated and asked to speak with a mgr when the female caller again asked for the last 4 digist of my social. The caller then haung up on me. Anyone have any idea who this might be as I would like to call them back

What a lot of people don't realize is under the FDCPA a consumer atterney that get's you a settelment for violations this company does towards you not only has to pay you 1000 dollars for each violation but they also have to pay your attorneys fees and court filings. So it's a win win situation for you. And half the times these bozos have no proof from the orriginal creditor what so ever that the debt they claim you owe is yours. So if you get sued by all means contact a consumer attorny. And for goodness sake show up at court. becuase if you don't and they get a default judgement on you your pwned.

My sister-in-laws (two of them), Mother-in-law, and grandmother have been contacted by this company prying for information about me.  I have spoken to them many times and yet they still harass my family.  I have given the payment information and they never thankfully never took the money out of my account because what they do is illegal.  They have threatened me with court action and police apprehension at my door, but would not give me any details as to who I can contact in my state prosecutors office to find the charges.  They are all bark and have no teeth. I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and sent them a "cease and desist" letter.  We will see if that works.

Take the time and do your due diligence with the laws in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act on the FTC Website:  www.FTC.gov.  Don't stand down or live in fear of these people.  You must tell them to cease and desist all further communication, and they have to by law.

Someone named Matt from this number called me and accused me of lying when I said he must have the wrong number (Matt yelling: "Why are you lying to me?! I talked to *** several times at this number!!!) at which point I hung up. He immediately called my 91 year old grandmother and told her that he was my defense attorney (not) and worried her terribly. They must be stopped but I don't know how.

WERE YOU SERVED? If not - it can be overturned

DID YOU SHOW UP TO DISPUTE IT?  If not - you caused the problem by not showing up and they got a default judgement.

DID YOU DO ANYTHING TO DISPUTE IT before you were sued?
There is a lot of things you could have done to avoid the garnishment..
