Received a call from this number today saying that I owe some kind debt (my wife received the call. I was not home and don't owe any debt to anybody!). Called 1-888-556-0259 and a voice message directed me to 1-800-220-2018. Again there is no one to answer the phone. is this a "scam" of some kind?

Got a missed call and voicemail from this number.  It was a male's voice on a recording saying they were AT&T and that I had to call back for a free $200 credit to my account.  The voice sounded just like the movie phone voice for AMC theaters.

I currently am worth over 3 million in cash and assets and I own 2 homes. I suggest you look in the mirror and pull your head out of your a** before you rush to a very ignorant and moronic speculation.  I have been called and harassed for 2 weeks with 3 to 5 calls a day form this fly by night con company.  They  tell me every time it's a mistake or they still have something else but they need more information.  My attorney is on this fiasco but I suggest you try not to rush to judgement with your high powered ego and your very low I.Q.  I pay my bills and probably some of yours thanks to the welfare give aways and the ghetto bailouts.

Spoofing local numbers is a cute stunt pulled by several collection agencies. I consider it deceptive practice when the agency has no call center in my area code. I've made this a violation count as a FDCPA plaintiff. I've not had judicial review of the claim, nor have I done the PACER homework for a precedent, but there's no harm in trying.

Luckily the promoted domain is currently dead. Having some silly subscription deal at $480 a year with a spamming lawyer who doesn't live near you will not be "a guaranteed way" to force any outcome.

Certified Mail with return card is under six dollars for a simple notice. You can and should write your own dispute and cease-comm letters for free, and control your own records. The letters from legal paper mills tend to be overstuffed with idle threats, some have spelling and grammar errors, and many say things which can worsen your position. The time for lawyers is when a collection agency disobeys whatever your letter demanded.

There is no magic recipe for defending your rights. What you need is a strategy and plans for multiple outcomes. Better resources include the Credit InfoCenter and DebtorBoards websites, the National Consumer Law Center in Boston, the Federal Trade Commission, and a real lawyer near you who has left her office to fight FDCPA cases.

I'm glad that your life has gone so smoothly, but stop judging everyone else because it makes you sound like the whiny one.  "Real" club indeed...  I'm sure you've had some bad things happen in the past but obviously you've managed to overcome them.  Most likely you were able to do that with other people's help that you either refuse to acknowledge or didn't even notice at the time.  Some people haven't had your good luck, and it is definitely luck that gets one through this life, so get off your pedestal and let the rest of us deal with our own lives the best way we can manage with the lot we've been given.

I believe it's the same people. The approach is different. I get a recorded mess. asking a name prompting to press 1 if correct or 2 not correct, I have never gone past that point:.. to Mr. Consumer Bighead Whines about whiners. The way it works is Once the original creditor drops the collection... it would be labelled as charged off, bad debt. or account closed. They have all ready written it off.  The creditor will recover through tax deduction if they have made a profit or written it off of their own profits as a loss which is still deductible. Collection companies bid on the receivables of a company, which does not include debts, bad debts,or charge off's. They then have the right to go after receivables owed the Co for a certain amount of time beginning with the first co. say 30 days past, 60 days past, 90 days and so on.. Got it? At least if you are gonna act like your better, get your facts straight and don't just spread your BS! If Anyone here needs info it's all on the web. How else did you get here? also good tutorials about straightening out collection co's. are on youtube.com..Search: improve credit rating. Send out dispute letters and get negative items off. There will be no calls once these are off.

I donot know who these people are but for them to call my mother's phone  (which I never use) and ask for me after 8:30 pm is very unprofessional. Plus they were told I was asleep and they wanted her to get me up. After she told them again to get me to the phone she told them she was not going to, they then decided to leave their number.  My mother is 76 years old and does not need this from them anytime of the day since I do not stay with her but only a couple times doing the week. Like I said I do not even know how they got her phone number, then had the nerve to call her and ask for me is not professional at all.

I know an individual who works for this outfit. This person brags about gaining the trust of people he calls and that in the few short months since he has been there he is one of the top collectors. Getting to know this person as well as I have, I have no doubt that he has done well in this environment. It takes a sleeze to work in a sleezy place like this. Whats more amazing is that this person owes the government well over $30,000.  This slimy place really should do a more thorough background check on their own people!  It saddens me that these people are out there scamming hard working people who either never had this debt or settled their debt already.

I looked up this information before I called this number back. I told the guy that someone from this number had called me and he proceeded to ask for my phone number. I told him I wasn't giving out my phone number unless I knew who he was with. He then began to argue with me that he wouldn't give me and information including who he was working for, until I gave him my phone number. I then informed him that I has googled the number before I called back and that I was filing a complaint against him and his company.

I just received a call from a Trey Astillero also claiming to be with FBCS. I asked what the call was in regards to since I know the person who previously had my number and he wouldn't tell me. He got rude and tried to ask me how I conveniently ended up with my friends number. When I told him that it was none of his business he got even ruder and told me to take a message. Than when I said I would and was writing down the information he said" ma'am do you even have a pen and paper"...you know what...screw him. Hello I'm at work so yes I do have a pen and paper but I wouldn't pass on his message anyways. He's rude and wouldn't provide any information to me so why would I?
I've blocked the number for future calls. I don't have time for people asking me to do them a favor while being rude!!!

I received a call from FBCS asking for someone who does not live here, saying they have a long distance call for them. It was not a recording, like normal collect calls are. I informed the lady that the person did not live here, that I had just gotten this phone number. I have not gotten a second call back yet, but from reading this above information, I expect one. So just be warned that they do not announce first thing what they are calling for.

They called 7:07am did not leave a message... obvious breach of calling time legal guidelines... They are calling my businesses backline and I am sure they have a wrong number because it is a recently reassigned number and I get a lot of collection calls for the previous phone number owner... I will let them know its the wrong number and they will stop calling im sure... For those of you people that are all hostile on this forum, you look like whiney babys... Just pay your bills and you wont have to cry like babys.  Seriously how stupid is it to quote statutes and timelines... It is still your bill and can legally be collected FOREVER.  Dont be a stupid debtor... pay your bills and move forward with your lives... whiney babys... LOL i have great credit and I feel great... join the real club... not the stupid whiney cry baby loser debtor club.

I received a "settlement" bill from them asking for a portion of the debt owed to them (not that much) from a bank account that I had closed but money overdrawn from it hadn't been paid (I was out of the country and had no idea.) I called them and they told me if I paid the full amount they would wipe the incident from my credit history. Is this true or is this another ploy to get money out of me? I would do it if I know this is true, but they won't tell me either way and I'm not sure how to find out if this is legal or not.

Someone help!

I have gotten several calls from this number and 866-594-8651.  According to "Consumer" if you tell them they have the wrong number they won't call again.  Think again sucker.  I probably have better credit than you and I get calls from these slimebags weekly because someone with the same name (except the middle initial), in the same city owes money.  They will call you back and there isn't much you can do about it except report them and even that does no good.  I've got so many letters from the FCC referencing my complaints that I had to get a new file cabinet.
