Miscellaneous
I purchased airline tickets from an overseas vendor.

PNC security had called from 800-225-5618. I didn't answer, but called my local branch first and they verified that it was a legit number. Then, I called 800-225-5618 back to the automated system to verify those purchases using my new credit card.

I'm happy they did so...looking out for me and them.

Like most of the other posts here, I too can tell you this is legitimate. It is indeed from PNC and they wanted to verify some charges on my card. I did not recognize the number that was calling, so I let the answering machine pick it up. It was a recorded message from PNC that mentioned my full name and the last four digits of my visa number. I called the customer service number on the back of my card, just to be on the safe side. Turns out someone was trying to make unauthorized charges on my account. The customer service rep said the charges were declined because they would have put the card over the credit limit. If this number calls you, by all means call the customer service number on the back of your card, THIS IS FOR REAL.

It's PNC, who called to verify unexpected charges on our credit card.  Since I didn't recognize the phone number, I let it rollover to voice mail.  They left a message,so I called them back on the phone number listed on the back of my card (to ensure I was talking with PNC).  The customer service rep. was able to access my account and I clarified that my husband was traveling, so the charges were legit.

It was a valid call from PNC bank; I called number on back of my card and they confirmed that PNC had called me. Turned out no problem, but customer rep doesn't know why they block name on caller ID for the 800-225-5618 calls.

I called the number on the back of the card, PNC told me it was their fraud department wishing to check the last five charges.  Either way, it's best to call the number YOU know...

I just talked with a PNC customer service personnel. This is a PNC bank number, the reason they called is because they found some activities of your card so they want to verify.

This is legit from PNC. I did not call the number they left on my VM, but I did call the number on the back of my card. PNC had frozen my card. I went over a few charges with them and they released it.

IMHO, PNC shouldn't give you a number to call. They should just say, "We put a hold on your card. Call PNC bank ASAP."

Found a voice mail from this number on Monday, stating my name and last 4 digits of my cc, and that strange activity had taken place on my cc, and I needed to return the call immediately.  They called 5 more times that day, but no message.  I  immediately assumed it was fraud.  Since I am unable to speak, had to wait for someone to call the number on the back of the cc itself.......NOT the number they called from.  THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!!  They were checking on an online purchase that I had indeed made.  Funny part is, the purchase they questioned is where I purchased a well known Virus Protection!!  Hummm??  DO CALL the number on the back of the cc, just to make sure!!!

I got a call and a voicemail from PNC card security about a charge on my credit card. I called the number on the back of my PNC card and they verified that a call had been made from that number.

Definitely legitimate although the person I talked to at PNC said it was a good idea to call back to the number on the back of the card to make sure.

Got a call from this number.  It actually is the PNC security department.  Hung up initially then called the number on the back of my card.

This is a legitimate PNC Bank call. I had Lasik surgery 3 hours away from my home this past weekend and had to charge 2 large amounts for the surgery and doctor fees.  PNC just wanted to verify these purchases (since they were large amounts and not in my local area).  I'm glad they called, even though these were in fact my own transactions, but it's nice to know the bank is looking out for me!  So if you got this call, yes call them back. The automated phone system will take you to your account and tell you your past couple purchases and ask you to verify, if there was a charge you did not authorize, it will connect you to a person to talk with.

SCAM.

I got two calls today from 1-800-225-5618. The first left no voicemail, but the second about 5 hours later left a message saying it was from PNC's fraud dept calling for (my full name) about unusual transactions on my card ending in (correct last 4 digits).

I found that odd because in the past when my PNC card was actually used for unauthorized purchases in another country, PNC just put a hold on it and didn't call me ? I found out because my card was declined at a restaurant.

So instead of calling this number back, I called the phone number on the back of my card itself. The PNC representative confirmed that their fraud dept had NOT been trying to reach me and this was a scam. (Incidentally, PNC is in the process of mailing new cards anyway to people who were victims of the Target breech over the holidays.)

Anyway, don't call them back. Even if you do have fraud-related concerns, as a general practice you should initiate the call directly to the financial institution. If you are concerned, call PNC directly from the number on your card not some random number left on your voicemail.

There were 5 charges on my visa card in the last 2 days from a direct marketing company. These were valid and I confirmed that they are legitimate. I am glad PNC is looking out for my financial welfare. If in doubt, call the number on the back of your card.

Don't ignore this number! We got a call from this number the day after we had used a card to make a large purchase, they were calling to verify that it was a legitimate purchase and that our card number hadn't been compromised. If you are still suspicious, then just call the phone number on the back of your credit card. It's better to be safe than sorry!

My previous message was incorrect.  I called the number on the back of my card and found that their security dept. did have a suspicious activity to check out.  It was a transaction that was valid so they removed the alert.

My wife answered the phone and was told that there had been a security breach on my Visa Card and asked for the 3 digit code and my pin.  I suspected skullduggery so I entered this website.

Yes, this is PNC. I missed a call, googled the # and found this site. PNC was just confirming an overseas purchase made on my card...which was legit. Glad I called, as since they couldn't reach me.....they had frozen my card.

It's a valid number. I called the PNC line and someone called the 800-225-5618 number. That is the PNC credit security department and they called for valid concerns.

This is a legitimate number registered to the credit card fraud department at PNC Bank. If you got a call from this number there has been an attempt to make a fraudulent transaction by someone using your credit card information. If they call you and you are uncomfortable with responding, just hang up and call the toll free number on the back of your credit card IMMEDIATELY!! They will cancel your existing card and send you a new one with a different account number.

Yes, it's real!!!!!

Call the number on the back of your credit card right away.  I found out i had a $225.26 charge coming out or Russia - something I did NOT make but had been put on hold because the bank flagged it as being 'suspicious'.  there where also odd amounts, .20, etc. that they referred to as 'test' transactions also out of Rush.

CALL ASAP!  But call the number on the back of your card.

I also called PNC back using the regular customer service number on the card. They were reporting suspicious charges on my account that turned out not to be charged by me. Make sure to follow up with your card company even if you choose not to call this number.

I started getting calls yesterday and called my bank using the number on the back of my card, not the one in the voicemail.  They didn't have any security notes in my file.  I kept getting the call so I chatted with my back rep today and this is what he said:

..."this number would definitely be a scam"

So I don't know who is saying this is a legitamate call/ voice message (the scammers maybe).  Don't call the number- call your bank directly and talk to them.

This is PNC.  I called and verified using a different phone number from the back of my credit card.  The Fraud Dept. had a question about recent transaction activity.  PNC should change how this phone number works so that it leaves a message, so they're not ignored.  If it weren't for this website, I would not have known to check with PNC.

Received a call from this number but they left no message.  I am a PNC customer so I will check my credit card to make sure I recognize all transactions.  If not, I'll call them using the number on the back of the card.

It is a real call from PNC. I called them from another number on PNC website. I had 9 charges on my credit card yesterday that I hadn't used since last May. I finally found out because a bunch of proactiv showed up at my door today so I called them back about it. I think PNC was hacked and they know it because my card was already shut down and they had no issues about dropping all of the charges. I'll be looking forward to my audio books and other random crap some gutless dick charged on my card. Call PNC from a secure line from their website ASAP unless you need proactiv and a bunch of other useless crap.

PNC credit card - verifying purchase activity - security related.  My credit card had just been declined because there was some suspicious activity the day prior. When I confirmed the transaction to be suspicious they canceled my card and sent me a new one.
