Debt Collector
Mr Shaffer, Today I retuned a phone call from a rep at 629-7500. He stated that I owed money to Atlantic Radiology for services in October 2013. I assured him that I would look into it and take care of it if I did own the money. He wasn't satisfied with that answer and wanted a firmer commitment immediately. I PROMISED him that if it turns out that it was not paid, I would pay it. He wanted to know how soon. I said tomorrow.  He said he would keep it on his desk only until NOON tomorrow, May 9, 2014. He was belligerent and I disconnected the call. He immediately called me back and left a VOICEMAIL stating that "it was clear that I had no intention of paying, something about taking care of business, and someone would be knocking at my door". Not sure who he meant would be knocking at my door. I called back the 629-7500 and told the female who answered that I would like to speak to a supervisor. She put me on hold for at least 20 minutes before coming back on. (Pretty sure it was the same female).  I told her about the threatening message and that I didn't think that was allowable practices. Then, the same hold music came back, she had put me on hold while I was speaking!!! A supervisor?? Of course, she wasn't. It was probably to make some comments to her fellow reps and maybe you also, as you say your desk is right there. And she wasn't sure whether a threat was not allowed. Too bad you weren't doing QC today. Then she kept asking me for my address, which I would have thought you had since you had my phone number. I told her that I was still recovering from my recent chemo, I was in bed, and that I would follow up tomorrow. Seems that is not good enough for Profit Services. I'm embarrassed by how emotional I became, but sometimes terminally ill people are more fragile. And you know, the reason that I wanted to double check it? Because since March 1, 2013 I have been trying to get Atlantic Radiology to resubmit a bill to Blue Cross that was filed with the incorrect pre-cert date. That was resolved LAST WEEK, and the charge was resubmitted to the insurance company. But, you wouldn't believe, or care about, the toll that took on my health. But, throughout that, Atlantic Radiology, and the collection agency that they had sent it to, were very courteous. Any how, after finding this website and reading all your responses and insults to people, I looked up the Federal Trade Commission's web page regarding debt collection. I'm sure that you are familiar with it, but for the benefit of others, it says:

Can a debt collector keep contacting me if I don?t think I owe any money?
If you send the debt collector a letter stating that you don?t owe any or all of the money, or asking for verification of the debt, that collector must stop contacting you. You have to send that letter within 30 days after you receive the validation notice. But a collector can begin contacting you again if it sends you written verification of the debt, like a copy of a bill for the amount you owe.

What practices are off limits for debt collectors?
Harassment. Debt collectors may not harass, oppress, or abuse you or any third parties they contact. For example, they may not:
use threats of violence or harm;
publish a list of names of people who refuse to pay their debts (but they can give this information to the credit reporting companies);
use obscene or profane language; or
repeatedly use the phone to annoy someone.
False statements. Debt collectors may not lie when they are trying to collect a debt. For example, they may not:

falsely claim that they are attorneys or government representatives;
falsely claim that you have committed a crime;
falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit reporting company;
misrepresent the amount you owe;
indicate that papers they send you are legal forms if they aren?t; or
indicate that papers they send to you aren?t legal forms if they are.

Yeah, right! This comment hits the "associated list" "wrong number" "wrong name" "place blame on vendor" calling, preying on family, friends, including elderly, vulnerable, children, and uninformed category. An example of how deceptive and unfair business tactics can be used. Disguising contact with people on a debtors "associated list," you know, family members, is limited under federal and state consumer protection laws. The collection industry has a BS excuse for everything.

Debt Collector
These people called me tonight (6:30P.M - very strange business hours...) and right off the rip lied to me about who they were. The first collector lied and said he was an employee of Atlantic Radiology, and then began asking me questions regarding my case. When I tried to answer the he talked over me several times then hung up on me. I then called back and asked to speak to the supervisor and received a rude retort and was put on hold. After a few minutes Tim Shaffer took my call and was just as rude and condescending as the first person then (apparently) as per company policy, hung up on me. I then googled their names (actual names as they never told me their company name) and come to find out, it's this "Profit Services Group" and they have quite the track record of being low.

A note to you Mr. Tim Shaffer: Being a debt collector is about as low as you can go. You're already at the bottom of the barrel, but you... you manage to stoop even lower and specialize in harassing those with medical debts. You can't even go after healthy people, you prey on those who are obviously already in a tough situation. It's not like we ran up credit card debt at the mall and deserve to be insulted by you or your constituents. You're an unnecessary burden on those unfortunate enough to have to interact with you.

Debt Collector
This company is using illegal tactics & is in violation of the Federal Trade Act. They pocket the money instead of paying to the company that contracted them. They illegally drafted money from my back account a couple of years ago. I had to close the account & re-open with another back. They cost me hundreds of dollars in fees & attorney fees as well for a small outstanding bill (less than $200) which I ended up settling with anyway.
They are guilty of unlawful use of telephone, harassment & wire fraud.
BEWARE!!! they will NOT send your payments to the doctor's office. They pocket it!!!!

I am sorry that you were disconnected. My collectors do not just " hang up " on people. If you were put on hold it is possible that the call was dropped. We have no problem in giving documentation if our client has furnished the original for us to scan. Many times we receive accounts electronically. This lends to little documentation. We do however advise people to call the client that we represent if they need exact original records. As far as notices being sent we do so per federal law. We cannot be held responsible for the USPS.If you will give me a call at 912-629-7500 I will try to help you.

I believe that these issues should be addressed. This site is for the most part used y individuals that are looking for a place to vent . I am easy to reach at my office. I sit on the collection floor and take many calls myself each day. I am constantly amazed at how many people call me to complain about the collectors that are sitting within four feet of my desk. Especially when I just monitored the conversation. When I ask" How were they rude to you " ?  they usually have no reply or it is something like " they told me that I had to pay the bill ". It all seems a bit crazy but I try to understand.

Give me a call and I will try to resolve your issues. If we called you then we would like to help you resolve the debt that has been listed with us for collections. We do not " buy" accounts. We do not look up information on the credit reports and randomly call someone. We work for more clients than just doctor group. We do represent a large Gym company in Savannah , Ga. You were probably making payments at one time to one of our clients " billing" companies. If you missed payments they would have turned the account over to us. Give me a call at 912-629-7500.

I do reply to the entries on this site. I am always concerned about any type comment - true or false. I know that this site is usually a " venting " place. My employees are not rude. They do however follow the FDCPA. This is many times viewed as rude because we have to identify who is calling before giving full disclosure of information. Give me a call at 912- 629-7500. I will be glad to discuss this with you.

Linda, nothing weird going on here. You and I have talked and your issue has been resolved.We spoke and I told you to track your money order to see that it was not cashed. You agreed that you would do so because you got the money order at the store that you work at each week. I also sent you a refund check as an act of good faith. Give me a call if you still need help.

This is not a scam. We are not being rude. We must however get the telephone number that is being called to stop future calls. Sometimes the definition of " rude" is the collector asking " what number was called "? See other post above and I think you will see a common thread. We do not want to call the wrong telephone numbers. We cannot however resolve the problem unless there is co-operation on both ends of the telephone line. If you will call me I will be glad to remove your telephone number.

we are not being rude to you. When you called our office we must identify you per Federal Law. It would be very easy for my staff to tell you everything about our company and why we were calling your telephone number but if you are not the correct party that we are trying to reach then we have violated " third party disclose law ". When you call us back you must at least tell us the correct nmber that you were called at and then and only then can we remove your telephone number from our system. If you would like to call back and ask for me and give me the number that is being called I will be happy to help you.

Tim Shaffer, I recently broke my ankle in April and have no insurance but have been paying on EVERY BILL I HAVE RECIEVED. I recieved a call in late July-the first call I EVER recieved -that I had to pay atleast 200.00 on debt or will be taken to court from charges which happened only 2 months before when I was diagnosed as totally disabled and had about 200.00 a week coming in and NEVER RECIEVED A BILL from the company that supposedly turned it over to collections because I filed for indigent care through Memorial which had nothing to do with this company because as you said,"you do not work for Memorial" so when I called the company that "automatically" turns it over to collections when I file indigent with Memorial that you are not affiliated with and who has NEVER SENT ME A BILL said I only owed 30.00.  The kicker is somehow your company magically recieved debt from another company that I have been making payments to regularly and set up payment plan after accident first happened was on part of the debt your company was to collect.  I called said company and they informed me they had not turned anything over to your company and that I had a payment plan with them and was making on-time regular payments as set up.  Haven't got to the best part.  All of this as you stated was from "Doctor Groups" well weird how a debt with a gym from 5 years ago is also included.  So your telling me they requested your service as well? Or is it possible you looked at my credit report and bought the account? Or maybe your company saw it on my report and decided to add it on to a 30.00 charge that I never recieved a bill from?  I am currently recieving bills from 4 different companies and have set up payment plans and have been making regular payments. Do you honestly think I wouldnt pay 30.00?  And to confirm your company looked at my credit report to find what you thought was debt has already been paid-4 years ago but it ofcourse is still on report because anything on your report stays 7 years.

This message is to the owner if the company Jim.

I am just wondering why you have not replayed to any of the post about the rudeness of you employees? Also why you have not give an any reply to the people who have posted comments on here about your company having the wrong number, such as the woman's ten year old that you keep calling. I am sure he has a lot of debt!!! Even if he dose by law you can not call a person under the age of 18 with out legal consent you must contact the parents if the child.

One more thing.
As far as you saying that you will take legal action on the guy who called you a scam and to call the police. I am sorry sir but there is nothing you can do about this. This is a review site and anyone can write what ever they want to about their feelings on you company as long as it is within the guidelines of this site. I fortunately work for a company who can help you with this if you do not want further reviews like that beeing placed on sites like this one with out you first haveing a chance to talk to that person.

I totally understand that you deal with a lot of people who are just looking for a way out and I am sure it can be quite frustrating for you. I don't really see the point replying to people like this unless you are just doing it to get them to pay so that you get paid. Bad reviews can not hurt your company, if people chose not to pay they are still going to have it on their credit and was they relize they can't do anything in this world with out credit you will get your payment. Just a thought. I would love to hear what you have to say, thanks.

Well fortunately, this is not a scam at all.  For the benefit of the folks here having problems, I can say that I looked into this for someone who was having a similar problem.  They were being called by PSG for a bill they never received or knew about.  In this case the problem was that Memorial Health had billed the individual instead of the Workmans Compensation company for the use of a contracted service they provided.  In this case, money was not owed by the individual at all but it was still under their name and in PSGs system so PSG was charged with getting payment as they are supposed to do.  To complicate matters, PSG apparently did send documentation to the last known address but the individual had since moved.  Why PSG could not track down a simple address change is anybody's guess.  It would have been about a 3 or 4 minute process for me though.  It would have only been fair but at the same time, they have hundreds or thousands of people on their register.

Tim Shaffer is absolutely correct in that his company represents Doctors Groups not the hospital itself.  I have run into this before where a hospital will not be forthcoming with the full cost of a doctors visit because they do not include the costs of the contracted services provided.  This is yet again another example of why healthcare needs to be reformed so very badly but that is for another time.

So, what you have to do is call the number Tim Shaffer provided.  Ask whomever picks up what the charge is, who it is being charged by, and then have them send you the bill or go pick it up from them.  At that time call the hospital or clinic you were at when the procedure that this bill is for took place and ask about the relationship between your clinic visit and the charge you are being billed for.  Then ask if there was a mistake in the billing.  I can see where a similar instance could have occured as in my instance except instead of your insurance company getting billed you, the individual, got billed instead.

Try that.  If the hospital made another mistake as they did in the case of my client then I hope they are prepared for class action because they did a piss poor job of notifying anyone of a billing mistake.  On top of that, the contracted services the hospital use were also not notified so they did the logical thing and just sent the unpaid bill onto collections.

Yeah don't give this company any of your money. Just called them back to ask to get some sort of documentation or something in writing about my debt and was hung up on. Tim, you should train your people a bit better and maybe send out notices in the mail if you're really serious about getting people to give you money. I will not be giving you any money without documentation.

Chris,

Your information is not accurate. We do not work for any hospital. You were told exactly who you owed. Client name, amount and date of service. See my other post. How could you even think that the call was in reference to a hospital??? I am amazed constantly how people do not listen. On the other hand that is what has provided business for me over the last 30 years. Assuming information usually leads to one thing. The messages that are being left are " per Federal Law ". If a bill in fact has been paid  direct to our client and we have not been advised then you "beef" is with them not us.

Ellen,
Take the time to read my other post on this site. Your information is not accurate. Why would you admit to ignoring telephone calls???  Our telephone is answered as" Profit Services Group " or PSG  can I help you?" We are regulated by Federal Law and must identify who we are talking to before we can discuss the reason for the call. Tammy did not say" Prize Services Guaranteed". She said Profit Services Group. You were told what and who you owed. You were not told that you owed " Memorial Hospital ". Call the hospital and call the police. When you do so be " very accurate ." I am growing tired of people like you trying to bash my company and cause problems . By the way. The BBB is a business. It has no power or legal enforcement  powers. It is amazing to me that your first reaction is to try to cause problems instead of seeking a resolution to your obvious situation.If you would like to discuss and resolve your situation call me at 912-629-7500.

Alice,
Why would you speak to Memorial Hospital about a bill that has nothing to do with them. The bill was for a private contractor that bills separate from the hospital. The hospital will never have a record of the bill. This is not a hospital bill. The funny thing is that the exact client name, amount and date of service was explained to you in detail when you spoke to us and paid the bill. If you want to contact someone then call me at 912-629-7500. Ask for Tim Shaffer. Why be angry about a just debt that was owed ?? Why take the time to look up this web site and type in a complaint instead of calling us. Why did you not tell the representative at Memorial Hospital the exact name of the Physicians Group that you were told that you owed. If you did , then your issue is with the hospital for giving you non accurate information. Stop trying to bash my company for something that is not true.

Mr. Henderson,
It is amazing to me that you would take the time to research my company to make an attempt to try to " down grade " us probably as a result of your interaction with our sole purpose. Let's make sure that things are clear and accurate. The BETER BUSINESS BUREAU is not a government agency. They have no "legal" jurisdiction anywhere in the United States. They are a business. They are a business that charges entities to become " members". They are a business that takes information and complaints from " consumers". All that being said let's address the thing that you feel like shows something when it means nothing. We are a collection agency. We deal with debtors not consumers. We do not sell anything. We have no product. We do not offer services to the public. We Are however regulated by Federal Law -- Not a business that gives their inaccurate opinions. I have spoken to this BBB several times about not rating or listing our company along with all other collection companies. Why  ??? The reason we are rated an " F " is because per Federal Law we can not legally answer any complaint generated by a " debtor" through the BBB. It would be a clear violation of third party disclosure. That is what the " attorneys " that advertise on this site are hoping we will do. The people that complain about us to the BBB for the most part are trying to "blow enough smoke" to convince someone to zero out the balance they owe. They also complain because they feel like we should treat them like a " customer service counter at Wal-Mart. I do not run a "have it your way " company. Debtors usually complain because they do not get their way on the debt that is long past due. These are NOT consumer issues. I have recently talked to a Federal judge "off the record " . He advised me that if I addressed any issue that the BBB was requesting information and reply on in reference to a debtor I would be in direct violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act in reference to " third party disclosure". The BBB has been advised if this and refuses to stop the "F" rating.  So, you tell me --- violate the Federal Law to please a " business" that has no power or legal standing???  Would you like to pay the attorney fees and fines for each time I reply  to the BBB. If not then retract you post that was obviously " meant to harm."

If you are going to take the time to try to down grade a company why not be accurate? Better yet, how do you know what we are calling about if you have not spoken to us????? We do not handle any debts for any hospitals. The debts that we handle cannot be paid " through " a hospital. We do not call someone every day or twice a day. We have the telephone records to prove it. If you have indeed tried to call us back it is impossible for you to encounter that no one is available unless you are calling before 8:15 am or after 9:00 pm Monday through Thursday.We are easy to work with over the telephone but then again you are speaking about us and claiming that "you can't get through to us". I invite you to call and ask for me. By the way, how do you know what we are calling about  ie. " I do have medical bills .... " if you have not spoken to us ????????      oops !!!!!

If you do not owe anything then identify yourself to the caller and explain your situation. If you have proof of payment furnish it by fax , email or coming to our office. Simply saying that it has been paid or that you do not owe it will not resolve anything. Give us something to work with. If you have time to google us and type a complaint on this site then why have you not taken the same amount of time to get this cleared up ??????
