LEAVE ME ALONE YOU A SCAM I DONT KNOW NO BODY SI SCAM
BigA 2014-06-24 10:01:52 Unknown
Simple solution. The next time they call get their name and address and a file number. Send them a cease and desist letter stating that you are not the party they are looking for and want them to stop contacting you. Send it certified mail return receipt. After that if they call you you can keep track of all their calls and sue them.
You can find a cease and desist letter at the CFPB government website here: http://www.consumerfinance.gov/askcfpb/1695/i ... do-i-reply.html
I believe that the first form letter on the page will assist you (it is titled "I do not owe this debt") simply modify it for you information and send it off, problem should then be solved.

They call some of my numbers every day. I don't have a student loan with them, and I don't know the individuals they are trying to reach.
Unfortunately, they don't believe me that I don't know the people they are trying to get in touch with, so they keep calling.
Ryan 2014-06-18 20:30:05 Unknown
This is for student loans.
Those of you who don't have student loans have been put as a reference, or its just a coincidence due to someone putting an incorrect phone number.

They just called my cell and didn't leave a message. I do have a student loan with Great Lakes, but haven't started making payments yet (just graduated)
New Yorker 2014-05-30 19:08:23 Unknown
I do not believe that this number belongs to Great Lakes, which is a legitimate student loan provider.
They called my number even though my student loan payments are all up to date. They did not leave
a message on my answering machine, which, if it were a legitimate call, they obviously would since they
are trying to reach me. Finally, why in the world would Great Lakes call from an 1800 number that shows up as "UNAVAILABLE" on caller ID?
New Yorker 2014-05-30 19:02:54 Unknown
Got a call this afternoon couldn't make it to the phone on time. Saw this number and ID says
Unavailable. They did not leave a message on Answering Machine. Great Lakes is indeed a legitimate
student loan provider., But isn't it STUPID of them to show UNAVAILABLE on the ID with a 1800 number?
And since when is Great Lakes a "debt collector"? They maybe calling if you or relative have payments late, but that's not the same as a "Debt Collector" who buys debt from others for cheap and then chases after you.

Do you owe Great Lakes? Call back the number and pay your student loans.
Nene 2014-04-24 18:58:31 Unknown
Number calling claims to be Great Lakes Bank. They want your ssn at 1st so you can tell its a scam. Beware! !!
Brian 2014-04-24 18:52:31 Unknown
They told me the same thing... I believed them, because I have a student loan that is overdue... I grew suspicious though after they asked for my E-mail address... Even more so when I did not get the E-mail they were going to send.
I very clearly remember having to put my E-mail address on the application form in order to get the loan.
I have never gotten an E-mail from them and I use no spam filter.
Something about searching Google for a grade school class plan... and then comparing it to my College class plan made me say, "WTF! I just got a $25,000 loan to go to Grade School!"
When, "What is a verb?" is a question on the Final Test... You're not in a College class, imo. Unfortunately, that was the 3rd English class for a Computer based degree that contained 0 Mathematics classes.

If they are calling more than 4 times a day, you may be able to file harassment charges against them under the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) You might check out your options on that.

I get calls from 800-236-4300 twice a day, EVERYDAY, on my cell phone! No one has this number but family and friends. I have NEVER had a student loan and anyone who posts on here that they are legit are in on the scam. DO NOT give ANYONE your information on the phone...EVER!

I purchase a new Tracfone and was assigned a new number. Immediately began receiving many, many calls from this number. Googled the number and found out it is Great Lakes Higher Education Loan Corp. Called them, transferred a few times, explained I had been assigned a number with a new Tracfone. They asked my name, which I told them and that I no debts of any kind. They said I would immediately be removed from the call list. We'll see.

Susie 2014-03-19 15:28:51 Unknown
Im not putting my information on here but it has to be a scam.. I mean come on. I have NO student loans and how sketchy for someone to ask for your social over an auto machine. People are dumb if they do.

I get 1 missed from this number every few weeks, they have never left a voicemail and I haven't received any written correspondence about it. I definitely have an outstanding student loan, but it seems odd they can't just leave a message

This is Great Lakes Student Loan. They called to remind me that a payment on my son's loan was missed. I am a co-signer on his loan. They did not ask me for any personal information. She was very helpful and said that they had several repayment options if my son could not make the regular payments. When I said that I would remind him to make a payment, she thanked me and that was the end of the call. They had called me because my son recently lost his cell phone and got a new phone with a new phone number, so the number they had in their files was disconnected. He made the missed payment and I have not received any more calls.

This is a legitimate company, contracted by the federal government. Students take out plus loans all the time in parents names. With ID theft rampant, you do not want to ignore the calls. Take a minute to make sure they are not calling for you. Financial expert Clark Howard advises that a student loan servicer call is not to be ignored, at can destroy you down the road if you are on the hook for a loan, or you have been compromised.

Anon 2013-11-20 02:16:01 Unknown
Why are they calling me at 8pm if their hours are only until 4:30pm?
Ranger 12 2013-11-13 19:23:50 Unknown
Then how did they get his number? They are a legit student loan company.
Ranger 12 2013-11-13 19:18:55 Unknown
Umm...they don't call you just when your student loans are overdue. They can call for any reason. They just called me to verify info, as my student loans are not due to start repayment for three months.

My mother had a student loan from back in 2005-2006, she didn't ever pay the loan, she died a year ago this month and NOW all this time later they are calling MY house (I wasn't listed as a reference as I was obly 17 when she was in college... I have since moved to my own home, my own number) I have told them she has passed and they still call! This is harassment! I'm grieving over her death and they want to call and harass me over a debt I have absolutely 100% NOTHING to do with! Annoying!!

I've never had a loan in my life from anyone, and I'm almost 60 years old. Why do they keep calling me?
