They have been calling my mother frequently, using the name "Elizabeth Robertson". They even called her at work, which I've heard is illegal. The woman seems to be a recorded message at first, but has called enough that it's clear she just reads carefully off a script. She's had people in the background goofing off when she calls, and seems very annoyed with having to work for a living. My guess is she's been hired by URS to do this from her home, and doesn't understand that she's breaking the law. No disclosures, aside from claims that information will be used to collect a debt, and instructions that you 'cannot' listen the the message where others can hear it. Kind of hard to accommodate when I'm the one getting the message, not her. I think URS uses these hired idiots to do their calling, so that if they do get forced into a lawsuit or federal fine, they can blame the hirelings and feign ignorance of what was going on. Apparently very disreputable company, judging from the variety of complaints found online.

Received a call on my cell yesterday, while I was at work, from Deidre Warren from a local (Tulsa, OK) number. Refused to verify my information without her telling me what it was about. She said she couldn't so I hung up. I called the number back after I had gotten off and the same person answered the phone. I asked her for information, she said she couldn't tell me without verifying that it was the correct person. I told her I decline and she said "okay". Today, a relative told me that she received a phone call from the same lady asking if she was me, and when she said no, she asked her if she knew me. My relative said yes and Deidre asked for my information. My relative then told her that she would not give out my information but would take a message. She gave 18002365496 ext. 3242. I won't call. If they have a valid reason to call me then they should have all the information they need and not need to ask around.

My mother lives in a different state from me, and she received a phone call tonight from 800-236-5496, asking for me and saying it was a business matter. They wouldn't tell her anything else. Fortunately she didn't give them my phone number. This company is overly aggressive. How do they get information about a person's family??

Takia called my sister-in-law's house, asked for our brother-in-law and, because she is a child, their daughter gave Takia her dad's cell. Takia called the number and asked our brother-in-law personal information about my wife and how to contact her. when he played dumb, she said, "Are you sure? You're related to her."
Using the company name Unit Point Service. Will not speak with me about the "personal business matter" for my wife.

Legit collectors per section 809 of the FDCPA http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf *must* tell you at initial contact, or send you paperwork within 5 days of initial contact, the following:
1. $amount of debt,
2. name of the current creditor (which may differ from the original creditor who might have sold your debt),
3. a statement that that debt will be assumed to be valid unless you dispute in writing within 30 days,
4. a statement that that if you do dispute in writing within 30 days, the collector must mail you written verification of the debt,
5. a statement that if you ask the collector in writing within 30 days, the collector must send you the name and address of the original creditor if it's different from the current creditor.
If you don't get the 5 disclosures, orally or in writing (you do not have to ask for it, the FDCPA requires it), treat the collector like you would any SCAMMER. Scammers are using bought/hacked loan application data to extort payments for fictitious debts from victims and victims' families and friends.
The FBI warns about payday loan extortion scams here http://www.fbi.gov/news/pressrel/press-releases/paydayloanscam_120710
The BBB has issued several alerts on this scam, just google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"
Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.

Someone named "Remi" called my Mom, told her she was looking for me but gave my maiden name from over 25 years ago, and told Mom she was with URS and had a business deal for me. All bills paid and good credit rating, so either has me mixed up with someone with same name or are just a scam. Either way, finding out who to report it too and doing it today! WHen they start calling family members and lying to them, they have gone too far.

Someone named Lavonna Thomas called my NEIGHBORS asking if they knew me and they took a message saying to call at the number 1-800-236-5496 ex.3303. I called and they said they were the URS and refused to say what they did and the women would not reveal any information about who this person was. She said that Lavonna Thomas was no longer there and would be back later and she would not say when.

I have had a call myself from Venty Mayes from United Recovery Systems, from Houston Texas.
Venty Mayes lives in Venice Florida, Sarasota County. I ask that any one who has any info on this
company please post. I am going after them legally and the more the better. Everything they are doing
is illegal under the fair credit act, state and federal laws. I would like to put together a class action with as many people as possible.

Venti Mayes called my neighbor looking for me. Wouldn't say why he was calling but tried to get info about me. She refused but said she'd give a message. Said he was from URS @ Houston, and it regarded handling a business matter. I will be reporting it to my state attorney General.

i had to change numbers and now there calling my land lord and talking to to them is that not a breach in the laws that cover giving out info on someones acct.
| DaFox 2010-12-11 00:58:53 Unknown |
The may have been left by a neighbor or relative.
Collection agencies will use a system called Skip Tracing to locate someone. This uses address data and personal data to locate people who live near or are family of the person who they are looking for.
A collection agency probably called a neighbor of yours and told them to leave you a message.
Most of the time these are for junk debts or they just have the wrong person.
Try calling the number provided and peel as much info out of them without giving out any info of your own and post back here with the results.

Somebody left a handwritten note at my front door saying "Please call Venty Mayes 1-800-236-5496 ext. 3093" I HAVE NO IDEA WHO THIS PERSON IS OR WHAT SHE/HE WANTS! If this person comes again I will call the police.
