Yes, they will initially fix the 'problem', then they will run periodical scans, which allow them to install their Trojans.
Talking about stupid, I googled Norton support last July and called a number I believed to be Norton and they swore they were affiliated with Norton, so I allowed them access.  It wasn't until the other day that I found out they are NOT affiliated with Norton in any way.  I had misplaced my Norton papers but a friend finally put me in touch with Norton.  I've had to contact them every three to four months since last July but am finally iYogi free and will never allowed them access again.
iYogi called my cell a couple of weeks ago to let me know my subscription was almost expired.  I told him that I hope so and to leave me alone.  To never call me again and leave my computer alone.
Beware of iYogi.  Never allowed them access.

As of this past week, Norton is very aware of iYogi claiming to be associated with Norton and the problems that are caused by them.  Last July I called a number I thought was a Norton support number but as it turns out they are in no way affiliated with Norton.  iYogi charged me almost $200 to remove multiple virus' from my computer and ran so called scans periodically.  About every three to four months I had to contact Norton about unresolved issues when I did my Norton scans.
A few days ago I received an Error Found message from my Norton and I wasn't even on the Internet.  None of my scans worked, so I ended up calling Norton.  It took them three days using different departments and cost me another $80+ to repair this mess.
iYogi has been completely removed and I was told  by one of the technicians that iYogi had found a 'back door' into my computer and created this entire mess.
Am I angry, you bet your bottom dollar.  I'm trying to figure out a way to get my money back from iYogi.  Maybe I can, maybe I can't but I have learned a valuable lesson and hope people will listen to those of us having been through this corrupt company.  Please make double dog sure you are speaking with a reputable company before allowing access to your computer.
If you are still having issues with iYogi and want to contact Norton, call 1-800-745-6061.  If you have encountered a major issue due to iYogi, they will most likely put you in touch with their Ultimate repair team, which may cost you another $89 to get your system completely repaired and iYogi totally removed but believe me it will be worth it.  I finally have worry free access to my computer.

I was given this number as being a Mac rep. I don't believe that they are authorized by Mac.

It sounded like a scam that had been on the news just that week. I hung up when they asked me for my credit card info. I told them that I bought a warranty with Best Buy and I thought they were the Geek Squad help desk. They said the warranty I bought with Best Buy was worthless. "Why would we lie to you. We are legitimate." Very unprofessional Indian accent.

They have called my cell phone number so many times that I have blocked them. The credit card number- taker said "Thank you for choosing (blank I didn't get the name) as your Mac rep. Something was just not right about the whole thing. I want them to stop calling me. I have upped the security on my computer to prevent them from coming inside. It frightens me.

Meanwhile, I fixed my own computer. Free of charge. Thanks.

You called a 3rd patry scam company thinking that they where from Norton. The company might say that they support Norton but they are not really Norton support. The real Norton support number for US is 800 745 6061. Thanks.

I spent 50 minutes on the phone with these people -- supposedly support for Norton's Management.  I purchased an extension to the Virus Protection that came with my NEW computer that I got for Christmas.  There was a link from Norton's which said if the product did not download properly, call this number (1-877-843-0419) for 24/7 tech support.  During the call I was given another number (1-800-237-3901) to call.  They scanned my machine and found "hundreds" of registry, junk files, virus problems.  At the end of the call, they said it would cost me $199.98 for them to fix it.  I gave an excuse and got off the phone.  I felt so stupid.   I called the main Norton's number this morning, spoke with a gentleman who explained that I was scammed.  He said after the "remote access" interval ended, they would not be able to get into my computer again and I should not worry.  They said that got many calls from customers about what is going on so they are aware.  I reported it to them and have shared my experiences with you.  Be Aware.

That is something you may need to call HP or your computer manufacturer for.  :) Make sure you call them and not get a hold of a scam site. Somehow there's some cropping up under google for support and tech so beware and advised!

And your welcome.. :)

Thanx a lot! Ur a big help. What u said helps but I think something else may be wrong cuz everything else seems to b working, but for some reason it just will not let me hook my printer up to it, and it's a brand new printer ( from HP). One thing I can say is, after I do get this problem fixed, I don't mean no harm, but ain't nobody else using my laptop! NOBODY!

Run your antivirus program and follow its instructions. If you don't have one, go download avast free, and also spybot search & destroy. Maleware bites is also usfull! All free, you can find them at filehippo!  The first thing you do is run updates for spybot.  then run it.

Don't let others use your computer unless you are right there..  too many visit sites they should not be..

A guy named Barinder (or at least that's what he said his name is), keeps calling me. He's a telemarketer from HP.  He also had a very thick accent. He used the same kinda remote control device to go into my lap top and told me that I have a virus on my computer as well. He also told me that it would cost me $120 bucks to fix my computer. (Btw, I have a Acer laptop n just purchased it brand new at Walmart about 4 months ago). I do know that it has a small virus on it from letting other people use it. Now it won't even let me hook my printer up to it bcuz it's blocked from the virus. I called HP for help n that's when I got in contact with the guy Barinder. Now he won't leave me alone n keeps calling from that number. Trying to get me to kick out that $120. I was getting ready to do it, but I'm not since I read this!

In all fairness, if they fixed the problem, but you feel the cost was too high, you should offer to pay part of the bill, the guy they sent to your house probably is a sub-contractor with kids to support and does not set the rates, most likely he/she got screwed out of their time and money because you cheated the company out of payment.

I do understand if you feel the price is too high, heck, most of us don't like to pay for the knowledge that it takes to deal with these problems.

Just out of curiosity, how did they screw you? The reason I ask is that I need help with my computers once in a while and someone recommended them.

I am wondering if they fixed the problem, how did you get taken.

Thanks.

I was called and very aggressively told that hackers had gotten into my system, were possibly compromising my bank records, credit cards, etc. and I needed to immediately give them access to my computer so they could fix it. They said they were from the "Apple Geek and Technical Department." Very fast talking, nearly unintelligible Indian caller. I asked to speak to a supervisor and got someone equally scripted and hard to understand. I've had enough experience with Apple to know that's not how they operated so I called Apple support  right away and they were fantastic and  helped me reinstall my operating system as a precaution. I did a reverse phone # search and discovered the many complaints. I am hoping Apple will report them to Google so they don't come up in any searches for tech support.

iYogi fixed a problem I had a couple of years ago and sold me a one-year unlimited call to do so. Since then they have called numerous times to try to get me to renew including saying that they detected viruses on my computer.I have been trying to get rid of them ever since - unsuccessfully. I have told them the person they want to longer lives here and other such to no avail. The callers are not easily discouraged.

I had to get my quick books reinstalled but I had to first call intuit to get the download and license, so I searched on Google for intuit phone support, and the number was in Google ads.
I called and they asked immediately to do a remote session.
I banged down the phone, because I realized that they don't even ask for the business accountiinformation.
They called back twice and left some garbage noise in the background.
In the end I called intuit's original number 18004intuit

I attend a large southeastern University. The University provides students and faculty with free anti-virus software protection by McAfee to protect home PCs. I downloaded the software, but had difficulty connecting to McAfee to register my computer. I called the McAfee customer service number (or so I thought) and ended up with IYOGI. I figured they were connected with McAfee (since they answered the phone number) and they offered to help fix my McAfee connection. They also offered to scan my computer for viruses. They took control remotely and showed me that I had a lot of problems with my registry. I have had problems in the past (which is why I was downloading McAfee). The offered to optimize my computer and fix all the problems for $169.99, and included a year of tech support. I figured, I need to get my computer cleaned sooner than later and the price for a year seemed reasonalbe so I consented. After they finished, my computer did seem better and I had this cool little IYOGI bar at the top of my screen for instant tech support. Well less than 48 hours later (this morning), I was online logging into my bank account. When I tried to log into my account, a new page I have never seen came up asking for all of my banking info; passcodes, addresses, maiden names, banking numbers and the back of the card number. IYOGI had told me that once they had optimized and cleaned my computer I would need to re-set all passwords, but I have never seen a banking screen like this before. I was a litttle freaked out by having so much personal information requested, so I used my laptop to complete my banking transaction instead (and I am glad I did!) One hour later, I was on FaceBook, my screen bleeped and my computer re-started. When it came back up my computer was exploding with little boxes telling me that I had a critical error. Then the screen took over my C drive and hard drive. Everything was cleared out and my screen went black. I was freaking out! I am a student and my documents are very dear to me. However, I was still able to contact IYOGI remotely through the IYOGI bar at the top of my screen. A representative started to help me right away, but I was beginning to get a bad feeling. I got on my laptop while he was remotely working on my desktop and started googling IYOGI reviews. A lot came up, hard drive crashes, problems with refunds, bad service etc.. I told the guy working to STOP immediately and explained that I wanted my money refunded. He refused and kept working, saying to give him a chance he could fix the problem! Finally he could do no more and asked me to reboot my computer in "safe mode" which disconnected him. I immediately called IYOGI and asked for a refund. They said they would and sent me an email saying I would receive my money in 7 days, but remembering the messages I have already read about IYOGI scams online and my earlier banking concern - I called my bank. They told me that the screen I had seen this morning was fradulant and told me that I should immediately cancel my bank account. Since it was less than 48 hours since I purchased the IYOGI package they were able to boot IYOGI off my bank account and my bank refunded my money, but told me to continue watching my account until I can completely cancel it on Monday (today is Saturday).I am so mad at this company....boy did they take me for a ride. I took my computer to Best Buy's Geek Squad (just now) and they said it could be fixed for $199. Luckily, the virus did not erase everything on my hard drive, it just looked like it did. Please do not use IYOGI and stay away from THEIR VERSION of GOOD KARMA!!!!  They are just awful.

Signed, Pissed University Student
