Most people who send a check do so knowing it will bounce or the account is already closed.

Yes. They are very rude. I'm trying to settle a payment with them,I told them I'm going to mail them a check as the amount they told me too. But the jacka$$ told me they don't accept check, they need my bank account number and routine number to make the down payment which is like 2500.

Whether they are legit or not, they are the rudest bunch of people I have ever encountered.  They took my money and have blocked my phone number so I can not call them back.  I requested confirmation of my payment and they have not given it to me.  The jack A$^ who called my was so rude.  The funny thing is, I have already paid this once to the bank.  I just paid it again to get them off my back.  Now I think I am going to cancel this payment and get a lawyer since the company requests that I do anyways.  He said I wasn't going to take care of it. I never said that.  Such a joke.  How dare hey treat people that way....

I also get a voice message saying it's "in my best interest" to call them. I personally don't have any accounts in collections; however the woman who owned my phone number last sure did, so it's possible they are trying to contact her; the number comes from a nearby area code, but the # they requested I call back is this 800#.

Hummm, I have no idea why I received an e-mail from them.  Never heard of them.

2nd that. A legit credit collector? After the sham that's been played on the American people. If you are a credit collector- in my book you are a charlatan!

I keep getting a call from this number and it asks no name but just to call this number.

This is a law firm that does collections. They called my husband over a legit debt that we owe to Provider Plus. I am refusing to pay it because I have been in the Provider Plus store on more than one occasion, trying to pay this bill, and every time they have been too busy to take my payment. Obviously they don't want their $124 that badly, so they can get bent.

I have received 2 calls from this no. They leave a message to call them back immediately. It is a legit.
law firm doing collections. Since I have no accts. in collection, perhaps they should spend some time
in learning the fine points of skip tracing.

Maybe you are employed by this group.

Is it a legal company?!

Doug Gilbert claiming to be from Douglas Chancellor Meyer and associates.  They left a call back number of 636-925-2480, said it was "about your credit card"

This call was stinky with fraud.  I called my Identity Protection service and reported the call (yep, I am that paranoid about my credit).  

The company is a collection's agency.

Here is what I can deduce:  Apparently the person calling fishes for suckers by calling randomly to talk with people.  If you have voice mail, they get your name off the voicemail and repeat it on the message.  They attempt to get you to call back identifying two things: 1) you are not very savvy  2) you are paranoid about your credit.  They then send you follow up certified letters in an attempt to get you to give more information to them.  

Ignoring the call is the best strategy.

Douglas Chancellor Meyer and Associates is a legitimate collection agency. If they were calling you, it is because either you, or somebody who once had your phone number, has a delinquent account placed with them. If it isn't you, call them back and let them know, and they'll quit calling you. Their website is www.dcmapay.com - check there, you'll see they are legit.

The recording does not say what is it about because it is illegal to leave any details of any kind. That restriction drives collectors nuts, but it is federal law.

answered and got a recording that says urgent business matter and to call them back at this number.  not who it's for or anything...

They call wanting you to call them back. Are they stupid?
