You're right, even with this being a valid Chase phone number if you are concerned you are receiving a suspicious call you should call the customer service number for Chase Bank and ask to be transferred to the Fraud Department to determine which part of the fraud group was attempting to contact you. In many cases we are calling you to verify movement of money that we have already denied. If we denied it then you will see nothing on your end.

For the record Chase has more than one 800 number a lot of them are internal. The telephone number you got the message from rings back to the general customer service line, the ivr which can also be reached by dialing 800-935-9935, the number that showed up on your caller id is the JPMorgan Chase Switchboard.

I discovered a voice mail telling me that there was a matter affecting my bank account and to call back at 1 800 246 4526 (the caller ID for this voice mail said "800 992 7169").  Remembering the rule that you should never discuss your financial information with anyone who calls you on the phone (the specific problem happens with inbound calls from an unverified number), I called the official Chase Bank customer service number (an outbound call to number I verified) to ask about whether there was an issue with my account.  I was told that there was no issue with my bank account and that neither of the phone numbers were found in the company's phone directory.  I was also told that Chase has only one 800 number.  If you received a call from either of these numbers, do not call them back.  Go to the official Chase website and find the official customer service number.  IMPORTANT: Make sure you spell the word "Chase" correctly when you type in the website URL.  If you misspell it, you may be directed to a scam website that looks the same but steals your information.  Ask the people at the official Chase number whether the call was legitimate, whether your account is okay, and give them all the information you have about the calls from these numbers.

Well no not irrelevant, if its a valid number then you are speaking to an employee of Chase, its not a scam or fraud. If your ever in doubt, you are correct, call the number on the back of your card or statement.

The branch does not have the same access to your accounts as back office employees do so if there were any notes they would not be able to see details, this is a valid Chase number.

You can only call back this number if you were given an extension number. Otherwise call the number on the back of your card or statement.

I got a voice mail from this number but couldn't under stand the whole thing; it sounded like there was a problem with my account. I immediately went to my branch office and was told my accounts were fine and there were no notes about any calls and they are always logged. I got another call the next day with no message. I called the number back and they asked for my account number and SSN. I gave nothing but a request to be removed from their call list and then called my regular chase number and spoke to the fraud department that said they looked and could not verify the number as there own. All things considered I have no choice but to say THIS NUMBER IS SCAMMING PEOPLE!!! DON'T GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!!!

The so called fraud department called wanting to know who was authorized to write checks against another bank's account.  When I tried to transfer her to our controller, she refused to leave him a voice mail and called back immediately.  She then proceeded to ask for a manager or my supervisor (both of whom are at lunch) as if I had done something I shouldn't have, and she wanted to tattle on me. She insisted on asking my name which I do not give out.  She insisted she be transferred to someone who could give her the previous information about the check but couldn't get it through her thick skull that it was the lunch hour and no one was here for her to speak to and that the controller was who she needed to speak to when he returns.  She then asked for the name of our controller so she could call back later.  I knew then that she didn't listen to his outgoing recording or she wouldn't have had to ask me that.  She was an impertinent little b!tch.

received a call from this number, claiming to be chase.  On calling it back, it at first seemed to be legit, was unable to contact the person who called me.  Called Chase directly to confirm the number, which they were not able to do.  If it is a scam it is well constructed, so Be Aware...

Really Mr/MRS Chase Employee???  Well why doesn't anybody pick up the phone at this number when you call them back?  Scam or just poor customer service. Either way, shame on CHASE BANK.

So what if this is a valid Chase number? That's completely irrelevant. Chase customer should always call the number on the back of their card. Potential scammer avoided! Problem solved! No need to worry about whether this is a valid Chase number!

Received call from this number. Wanted my son's social security number. When I asked "who was calling and what was the number"... so I could call back, the caller refused to give me this information. It's suspicious.
