We got the same call but guess what - we don't have Verizon - don't ever given anyone your info, always call the company and make sure the call is legitimate - in this case it is not.

Event Reminder
Got a call from 614-360-9213 leaving a message asking me to call Verizon within the next 24 hours regarding a change in the status of my account and to enter my 10-digit phone number.  The call back number was 800-249-2462.  At about the same time I got the call, I also received a FREE MSG text from Verizon 677-53 to remind me to make a payment within the next 24 hours.  I read the info here before doing anything.

I checked to see when my last payment was made per MY records ? oops, in August and this was November.      I then looked at my FREE MSG text and saw that it said to visit VZW.com/paymybill or call 800-249-2462. Instead of calling the 800 number, I called #768 and paid my bill the way I normally do.  I then checked MyVerizon online and saw that I now had a 0 balance.

I then called 800-249-2462 which said it was the Verizon Message Retrieval System.  Entered my phone number and # at the prompt.  It  retrieved a message saying my account was past due and my service could be interrupted if I did not make a payment within 24 hours.  The message gave me correct information regarding how much I owed and how much was past due.  It gave me the option to pay right then and the option to tell them I had already made the payment.  I chose to say I had already paid. (Everything was automated.)

800-249-2462 I'm sure is a legitimate Verizon number.  It gives you the opportunity to retrieve messages from them and it's probably safe to select the option to patch you into their bill pay system.  I would think they would list the Message Retrieval Number on www.800-numbers.net/Verizon but they don't.

As always, the safest thing to do is to pay your bill the way you normally pay it.

Its verizon or a contractor they use. They always call me after a new bill comes out and I haven't paid the previous one. I ignore them because I pay online and I'm purposely paying a month late.

800-249-2462 It really is Verizon when your late on your bill,  this call is to let you know they will interrupt your service. if you do not make a payment. There is an option to say the payment is on the way,  the system then says thanks we will look for your payment.

I originally though this was a scam also I even called Verizon the Verizon agent even agreed with me that this was a scam then I asked him if there was a department I could report this to when he said No i figured he probably didn't know a lot on the subject. I tried the number and low and behold it really is Verizon.

I received a call from 614-360-9213 warning me of changes to my VZW account within the next 24 hours, and asking me to call 800-249-2462. Received a text from 67753 asking me to call 800-249-2462. When I called the number from my work phone, it asked me to enter my 10 digit cell phone #. I tried entering other numbers on our account and it didn't recognize those. when I entered my #, it said to press 1 if this is **** ****** (my first/last name!). I hung up and called Verizon who insisted that this is a scam and that they would block the number. When I tried the 800 number again, it no longer recognized my number, but said to call another # 800-382-7114. When I called that number, it asked for my cell number and I entered my wifes number which is on the same account. Then it asked if I wanted to make a payment by electronic check or credit card. I selected elec. check and it asked me if I wanted to pay with the account ending in xxxx and they had the exact last 4 digits of my checking account correct. When I contacted Verizon, they indicated that my account was past due. I hardly think that this is a scam/coincidence. Verizon is using a 3rd party to harrass and get payment. When called on it, they deny it.

I received a call from 614-360-9213 warning me of changes to my VZW account within the next 24 hours, and asking me to call 800-249-2462.

Instead I called 611 from my cell phone and asked to be transferred to the VZW fraud dept. The VZW fraud dept. states NEITHER of the aforementioned phone numbers belong to VZW, that these calls are NOT from VZW, NOR from a third-party acting upon VZWs behalf.

I asked again if this was a third-party hired by VZW making these calls, to which VZW emphatically states this is NOT the case. Given these calls seem to have some legitimacy IN THEIR TIMING ONLY does not mean they are legitimate calls from VZW. It seems to me the VZW billing system has been compromised and these scammers are contacting those who fall a little behind on their bill -- thus giving their scam an air of legitimacy and encouraging people to entrust additional information without basis.

This scam seems to be ongoing for several years and seems to continue unfettered. As I discussed with VZW fraud dept., I am filing a report with the local police dept. and the FBI office.

I will put in my 2 cents and call fowl on people responding like Jane or anyone who says the paid their bill through the 206-315-3010 or 1-800-249-2462 & it was fine. Verizon just verified with me that these are not thier numbers & placed them on a blocked status on my account. Scammers go to far by trying to keep thier scams alive by polluting the message boards where people come to look for help. All I will say is even though I confirm those numbers are a scam I say dont even take my word for it. Call 611 from your handset & ask the rep directly. This is the safest move & all the help & proof you need. Those numbers are not legit.

I just received a call from 323-404-9261 with a very convincing message.

The message requested me, by name, to call 800-249-2462, then said 'you will be asked to enter your Verizon Wireless Number, ###-###-#### (my number).'

I work in IT security and knew this was a SCAM, but ... it was very convincing.

I called 611, got through to Verizon Security, they tested the numbers and agreed this is a SCAM.  The numbers were blacklisted.

Be careful! Be suspicious if the call, text, email etc aren't from someone you know.

I hve paid my bill through that number several times before. Verizon has my bank account information  on file. I called the number and they just wnted my authorization to debit my account for about half the past due amount and i just gave authorization and no personal information. I have done this many times before and there was no problem. You have to enter in your phone number so you may have enntered thee wrong number in. This number is legitimate. If you are not sure call Verizon customer service.

Dialed *611 from cell phone and Verizon representative said (800) 249-2462 is their Financial Services phone number.  I then called Verizon on my home landline to (800) 922-0204 and they also confirmed that (800) 249-2462 is a Verizon phone number.

When I asked about (206) 315-3010, one Verizon representative was able to confirm that it is their number
for Financial Services. The other representative was not able to confirm it was a legitimate Verizon number.

We do have a past due balance when I went #BAL on my phone.  So I will monitor and see if the calls and texts
stop after the bill is paid.

I didn't reply to either the text message or call the number the voicemail message left to me.

I would advise people to use a landline and just call Verizon directly to see if there's a problem with your account, especially a past due bill or change to your account.

The # is legit. It's really Verizon........... the whole "change in your account status" is bogus that's all. I NEVER pay my bill in advance, so when my current bill is posted I pay the last month bill. They get anxious when it gets to be 2 months (190.00~) so when I get the account status call, I make a payment. 800 249-2462 is "really Verizon" callin' to tell ya to PAY-UP sukka!!

This number does belong to Verizon Wireless. I just got the call today and called them back. It is an automated retrieval message system to retrieve a message from Verizon Wireless. Most likely about your past due balance. It will only give you the option to pay the account to avoid disconnection service. If you need to set up payment arrangements you will have to dial #768 on your phone and make arrangements that way. I wouldn't ignore the call to save from your phone being disconnected!!

One more thing- I have, on THREE occasions, immediately after paying my Verizon acct from my phone (which I probably shouldn't do- but we are trying to do everything in the go these days) Anyway- they have my bank card on file... Shortly after paying AND receiving confirmation via text from Verizon- I get another text... THESE are not legit- I have actually even gotten a call at my home saying my payment did not go through- BUT before checking into the call I check my account... Paid :) AND I check my bank :) ALSO ALREADY HAS GONE THROUGH. So the time they called my home- my husband answered and yelled at me about my bill... I got in the phone...the SECOND I said "I do not give bank info over the phone unless I have initiated the contact..." and asked for a number I could call back...? You guessed it- CLUNK. The East Indian hung up! All they wanted was my bank account info- and somehow Verizon seems to be easily hacked (They need to do something to better safeguard customers) but ultimately it is MY job to protect my money- common sense people- if you have a question, get any info you need& politely say you'll call the company and check it out -)

Can the folks who have commented "this is legit...they know account info..." (I'm generalizing of course) but could you BE any MORE NAIVE ??? Of course they have info that is correct& you know what...?... the only thing they want is for people to be dumb enough to give their BANK ACCOUNT INFO to them!!! Call Verizon directly! Report it! It is very much a scam!

People it's not Verizon. It's a Scam and you should call Verizon directly from your cellphone by pressing *611. These numbers calling are people getting personal information so that they could scam you. It's not legit so don't be dumb. I've even told Verizon myself of a scam I know of that I personally witnessed. What they do is collect your account info, they have someone working there who then authorizes someone to be on your account They'll go to an apple store and upgrade phones from your account and then they sell the phones to someone else for the original price. Even if its a different scam you should know better than to give out any information even if it seems they know it. Don't be dumb

Received one of these calls daily on our family of phones stating there would be an immediate change coming and for us to call 800-249-2462 and enter one of our phone numbers right away.  I went to Verizon's website and looked for the 800 number for cell phone customer service and it was no where near what they gave us.  Called Verizon and reported the phishing attempt.  They have since blocked that number for calling or texting any of our phones in the plan.  Beware.
