It is a collection agency, and in my case I filed a consumer proposal 4 years ago.  They still harrass me even though I have no legal obligation to pay this debt anymore as the original creditor failed to respond to the proposal.  After 2 years of filing they need to take action to resolve the issue.  Its been 4 years so they cannot take legal action against me.  If the calls persist you can get a form letter to cease and decist and send it to them.  If they continue, report them and they will be fined.

This is great advice if it works- but for me- it did not and the reason it did not, was because they were not dialing MY NUMBER. I TELL THEM MY PHONE NUMBER AND THEY SAY IT DOES NOT MATCH ANY OF THEIR DEBTORS, SO THEY ARE SORRY BUT THEY CANNOT STOP CALLING ME OR BLOCKING MY NUMBER, BECAUSE IT DOES NOT EXIST IN THEIR SYSTEM.

i just got those people calling me last 2 days and it shows private number ,since i never answer a privte numbers i ignored them then 3rd day they left this phone number and a reference code to call back that is when i called and the guy said they are looking for a guy with different name so as soon as i told him it is not me he said thank you and hangup and hope that is the end of the story .

called my pay as u go cell #. I did not answer it but it is the credit bureau of canada. I don't o them a cent!!

I filed bankrupcy over a year ago, I have NO debt now and all of a sudden I am getting calls from 800-256--8964 threatening me, seriously!  I have been through enough already!!!

I also received a letter besides the constant calls. They state they represent Rogers. I havent been with Rogers for years. They offer a LIMITED TIME  pay half your debt offer. BS!! I called Rogers and they refuse to help or even give information. They state that they have no account information, useless. It has to be a fishing scam, some people will payat a bank. I hope these people get what is truly coming to them.

I have been receiving phone calls and text messages at my phone number almost since I got the new number several months ago. They are trying to reach a person I do not know and is not at my number, but when I try to tell them they have the wrong person they tell me I am lying to them!! They have told me that my voice message says this is the man they are trying to reach...which I know is not true! Everyone who calls and leaves me a message reaches me...not this Mr. Brad Grimm.
I am being basically harassed by a company I do not have anything to do with by these constant calls and texts. I want them to stop!
It doesn't do much good to change the number...they seem to think they can do whatever they want to do with innocent people.
I no longer answer the phone when they call from the numbers I have, nor do I answer any of their text messages.
I am not a liar, nor do I know a Mr. Brad Grimm! I am a widow on my son's family calling plan...so the bill goes to him not me!
If there is anyway to stop this company from contacting me...real or not (collection agency)...please do so.

Please stop calling me, you have the wrong number

To me myself a collecter I have been getting calls at my buisness for over 3 maybe 4 yrs for some guy named Ed. I have told them a hundred times this is a buisness and there no Ed here and never has been. I have called the office and the head office.Guess what it didnt do a damn thing still get calls after I was told they would fix the issue. I have been extremely polite,just polite. It dont do any good ! I am at my end I just got another call the lady told me I was lying that I was Ed. I am pissed I am going to call the cops now but I dont expect they can do any thing. The head office they suggested I may be change my phone number ha but This buisness has had the same number for 64 years what bunch of losers.

Actually they can still collect on the debt, they just can't get a judgement, lien or wage Garnishment. They cna call you until your dead though

Going to study Law comes in very handy to learn things you never knew before. After studying Consumer Law it teaches us a lot of Laws we are not aware of. For instance in Ontario did you know that if your creditor cannot reach you or you have no contact with them concerning your account for 2 years they are no longer able to collect on the debt. However, every time you either acknowledge, make payment arrangements or make a payment. You start the cycle all over again and they have another 2 years to harass you. Just some food for thought.......hope it helps you it certainly helped a few of my friends out.

If you don't have the funds to pay your debts, don't bother. Let them write it off. Even countries owe, us, canada, uk etc. Don't even sweat it. Get a secured credit card if you need one, but please don't have a high blood pressure over a debt, it's not worth it at all. Life is NOT forever, so don't sweat it!

You only need to advise them to stop calling you ONCE and they must comply! Say that you do not know this person and that this is your personal phone number. Ask them to remove the number immediately and ask the person you speak to for their full name and Ontario collector license number. They are legally obligated to provide you with this info. At least the full name. You can find their license number here:  If they do not comply, advise them that you will be lodging a formal complaint with the Ministry of Consumer Services who will force the management team to pull the call record.

Also, if you are a debtor and wish to stop calls, you may do so in the province of Ontario by sending a formal cease and desist letter. They would be legally obligated.

What to do if a collector trying to call our number and looking for somebody who has nothing to do with our home phone number? They are looking for Eva Chambler(?) and keep leaving us messages on the phone... Collector's exetension number is 266. It is very annoying...

I have a similar experience with debt collectors. They've been calling and asking for a person I don't know. No matter how many times I tell them they have the wrong number, they keep calling and asking. Most of the time I get pre-recorded messages.
I threatened to press charges, but at that point they seem to pass the case to another debt collector (along with my phone number).

So now I just block these numbers. I still get a call once in a while, probably when a debt collector realizes my number is blocked and sells the case to another collector, but I'm usually left alone for a while.
