Telemarketer
We just had a phone turned on with Bright House network.  For the past week, have gotten tons of calls all day, every day,  from telemarketers.  One of these was from 800-257-5722.  They refused to tell the real name of their company other than IRL.  I asked for a supervisor.  He said that even tho we are on the federal do not call list, his company can call us for the next 30 days and there is nothing that we can do about it.  Then he hung up on me.  I called back and politely spoke to a lady and she told me that they are International and/or Interstate Readers League located near Atlanta.  B- rating and not accredited with the BBB because of their poor business practices.  Research provided their physical address.  3145 Reps Miller Rd Ste A, Norcross, GA 30071-1417.  If enough irritated victims show up in their parking lot, I'm sure we could get their attention.

You didn't call them, they called you.  It's your phone.  Talk to them any way you like.  If they don't like it, they don't have to keep calling and listening.

Just had a landline installed less than a week ago by AT&T. I haven't given my number to anybody except my family. I have received a call from this number and four others since. They are all hang-ups, or go over to voice mail and don't leave a message. I have decided to put my number in the "Do Not Call" registry....hopefully this will work. ( www.donotcall.gov )

Just installed U-Verse and got a new number and this number was the 2nd call to my home.  They have called 2x and never leave a message.  I guess if it ATT, I am about to test there call blocking service.  This is "CRAZY".  I have only had the number 3 days and the telemarketers are already on the phone.  WOW!  Crappy economy brings out the roaches fast.

Alright, I only received a call from these people once, something about how i was entered into a sweepstakes to win 25,000 dollars, except i don't remember entering any sweepstakes or even giving out any of my information. Now I stayed on the phone for a while, a lady said I had already won a diamond watch and 3 free magazines for 60 months...plus an extra which I would need to pay 2.38 a week for. At that exact moment I was like....aw hell naw! I hung up the phone and blocked their number.

We just got this number. It's UNPUBLISHED - we've only had it two days and 800-257-5722 was the first call to us. We haven't given out the number to ANYONE. We picked it up after 4 rings cause no one knows it .. they hang on the line and don't say anything.  They called us at night.

We use Verizon and do not have cable with them. We don't owe money so it's not a collection agency. Our number is a personal number not a business #.

I suspect Verizon sold our number to this company.

Yep, me too. Got the call about 6:30 pm on a number we've had for about a week and a half.  Caller ID said 257-5722, no 800.  My wife took the call.  She didn't give any info and when she refused to give any, the caller said she'd just enter her in the sweepstakes and just hung up on her.  I had a funny feeling about the call and I Googled the number and found this and lots of other sites about scams.  Then I called the number back and a guy answered and I asked him how he slept at night.  He said very well, and asked me why I asked.  Then I told him he was a scam, that they were all over the internet and they'd better not call this number again.  At this point he started to yell "eat me" over and over at me and I hung up.  It was pretty fun.  I think I'll call the Pennsylvania DA (where I live) tomorrow.

Answered the call to nobody on the other line. I called them back and they said it was IRL Sweepstakes and that my phone number (which is a new AT&T line) was picked and entered in the Dream of A Lifetime Sweepstakes. I thought it was fishy/phisy and hung up.

Just got my first telemarketing call on my new land line phone number. The kid was very polite and introduced himself representing IRL Sweepstakes in Norcross, Georgia.  IRL is Interstate Readers League located at 3145 reps miller road, norcross, georgia.  Background noise obviously dictated telemarketers.  He wanted to know what credit card companies I am with.  Of course, I declined to provide my personal financial info over the phone, but how many other people get too excited over the sweepstake prizes...$25k, plus Chevelle Malibu, plus other prizes...too good to be true.  3 minutes later Viking Magazine called.  They are both affiliated. I picked up the phone and said, "Take this number off of your calling list."  Then, I got online and added my new number to the No Call List...which will take affect April 1st...until then, it's war on the phone lines...thanks probably to CenturyLink or Embarq which controls the number dissemination re new phone numbers.  Since I once worked for a long distance telephone company, I know how it works...it's been this way for years and no one seems to want to control it...not even FCC.

Just got Comcast phone service less than a week ago and have gotten a few telemarketing calls over the past few days.  Makes me think they sell new numbers that don't opt to be non-published.

I got new phone service with Time Warner. I haven't given the number to ANYONE. A couple of days later, I got a call from an annoying telemarketer who asked for me by name...(800)257-5722. When I informed the girl on the other end that my number was on the DoNotCall list and that she was calling at an inconvenient time, she held the phone and didn't respond. Ironically, after that, I began receiving calls from 415-707-0560. I have no proof but a suspicion that they are from the same location.
When I contacted Time Warner with my suspicion that they had sold my information, they assured me that they hadn't and that I most definitely had signed up for something or given the number to someone in order for them to have my name.
Terrible business practices. If you're going to sell my information, tell me or at least put it in fine print or something. To sell your customers information and not make them aware of it in any form is a horrible business practice.

Received a call from this number at 12:30pm.  Woman asked for me, and I told her that it was me, and she went on about "congradulations i had be selected for a sweetstakes" she mummbled on the prizes that I could win, and then she asked me if I had a Visa, Master Card or some other Credit Card.  I told her I was not intrested in whatever it was, and she just said ok and good luck in the sweepstakes and hung up.  The woman didn't reveal a company name or anything, and all it showed up on the caller ID was "TOLLFREE NUMBER"  it's sad I haven't had this number but a week and being annoyed constantly by telemarking...

I called them and asked to be removed. After I stated that I no longer wanted to be contacted they continued to try to make me listen to what they offered for "free". I told her there was nothing in life for free and I didn't want to deal with phone calls that I did not ask to get. She nthen got huffy and ioformed me that it would take 30 days to take me off the list.

We too have just gotten our phone number from Qwest. About 45 minutes after the phone service was connected I started getting frequent calls from this number, the two times I've answered there's been nobody on the other side. I signed up for the no call list before my service was even hooked up. Nice to see that Qwest sells numbers as well as Comcast

I also just got a new phone from Comcast and the very next day started recieving phone calls from a couple diffrent numbers and I have only given the number out to a few people that I know and trust.

I signed up for the do not call list. We will see if this helps.

its very disconcerning that my own phone company is contributing to solication of my phone number.......

We also just got our # and nobody knows our # yet either!  This 800 # used to call our old # too.  No one ever leaves a message and we don't answer because our phone # should be private.  And we did not give our # to this company.  We have digital phone service through Brighthouse who just took our old # away from us saying that World Com owned it and we could no longer have it! Isn't this against FCC laws???

just got a new number from comcast digital voice, the 800 257 5722 called and and said it was Publisher's Clearinghouse, I told them remove it and do not call again or get reported to the AG office. I also signed up for the Do not call list. This appears to be a back room run type of group. they also call from 800 505 6495 and 800 562-3557.

Next time they call can someone get a location on them, play it up and ask to mail them some money, to see if they give a POB or address!

I called them back and "Publisher's Clearinghouse" answered.
A woman named "Leena" answered then transferred me to "Ron" who said he'd "take care of it right now" (meaning removing my numbers from their lists.
Try calling them back.
