Agency trying to collect monmey on an acct 10 yrs old that was paid for 8 yrs ago

My son received a call from this # and I said he did not live here anymore. He asked for his # and I asked what this pertained to. He said I was asking a lot of questions. I said I wasn't giving his # out until I knew who was calling. At that time he asked me to have him call him back.
I don't know if I will receive anymore calls. I knew my son's debt was settled because I helped him settle it. This is bull!!!

Beware of anyone who says they are part of a company called L.B.A. and wants ANY kind of money from you!!

I've received a call from these people claiming to be seeking payment for magazines from Gulf Coast Readers. They couldn't verify a single thing, couldn't even give me a current address- on top of all that, the woman on the phone was MASSIVELY unprofessional (she was laughing like a donkey when I answered the phone as well as chatting with someone else in the background during the actual call).

Because she was so unprofessional, I decided to call her bluff by saying that I needed to call my lawyer, get him to check into everything while I told her that the statute of limitation in the state she was assuming I had the debt from was only 7 years and the debt she wanted money for was 9 years old. When I used the words "fraud", "illegal misrepresentation of debt" and "extortion" she got nervous and got off the phone with me as soon as possible.

I'd advise anyone who sees this to get current on the Statute of Limitation laws of your state. You can use that against anyone who claims you have a debt as well as a few well executed legal terms to buy yourself some time to figure out if it's a legitimate debt or not.

I've been dealing with these people for over a YEAR. I filed a complaint with the BBB and the case ended up being closed UNRESOLVED because Luebke Baker refused to comply with my terms. That was August of 2007. They just started calling again this week. So I've reported them to every consumer reporting agency I can find. They are what's called a scavenger debt collector (these companies buy up old, mostly uncollectible debt from scam and/or dissolved businesses) and they often use illegal tactics (like harassment) to collect debts. If the debt they claim you owe is more than 5 years old, chances are the statute of limitations is up. Look on your state government's website to find the statute of limitations on debt collection. Some are as much as 15 years, but most are between 3 and 6 years. My "debt" originated in April of 2002, so the statute is up on mine. I'm currently composing a nice cease communications letter stating that if they continue to call me I will be contacting a lawyer because they are obviously breaking the law. I will also contact the federal government and FBI if they continue to call. I suggest everyone do the same. If enough people acknowledge to Luebke Baker that they know they are breaking the law, and threaten legal action, hopefully they'll either be shut down, or they'll cease their illegal activities. Or at least they'll stop buying up old, fake debts.

I get calls everyday from 213-363-5150, more than 3 times a day.  Sometimes they call and call right back within less than 3 minutes.  This time they called and some guy, supposedly Derrick Martin, left a msg for me to call 800-259-7654 ext 120.  I wonder how so many people can have the same ext.  They call from different cell phone numbers also.  How can I get these calls to stop?????

Same call, same scenario, # is 800-259-7654 ext. 120, but gave his name as Chris, but he said he could not reveal who he was working for....so that alone tells me it`s a scam. But also, my caller ID showed the caller as "Department Of Collections". I did not speak with this individual, my daughter did. Luckily she gave no information....please beware of these folks.

I also received a phone call from a lady @ LBA 1-800-259-7654 ext 120 stating that I owe $281.75 but will settle for $114.00 for magazine subscriptions supposedly ordered sometime before 2001.  They couldn't give me a date of this debt and refused to give any information regarding the Magazine company NCR Curculation.  I never ordered any magazines and requested validation.  She said that validation will be provided when LBA files the lawsuit against me.  I again asked her to send documentation regarding this matter and she stated that she has sent 10 letters to my current address.  I have received no letters from LBA.  I asked when the last letter went out. She said some time in Dec 2007 and that she wasn't going to  send another letter.  I asked her was she refusing to cooperate.  At that point, she started to get angry and abruptly hung up on me.   I called back and stated that they are not to contact me by phone only by mail.  She just kept trying to talk over me. So, I repeated it 3 times and told her to have a nice day.  Is there anything that can be done about this company??

Amazing to see how many complains about this company! They just keep calling, NEVER give your information, they just want to rip you off.

me, too...i received a call from this company and they keep calling me until i got so tired and answered the phone call..they said that i owed money from this magazine and they can settle it to 200, i told them that i did not order any magazine, they said that i did bcoz' i made some payments and the magazine was sent to some address...i told them i never lived there anymore for more than 5 years..but i don't understand how they can find your old address after 8 yrs...can u believe that a magazine back in 2001 and they finally try to collect a debt...normally, it'll just go to ur credit as a charged off but this seems like a scam bcoz' real company don't chase a debt after 8 years..but i think this is scam...so, people do not give out ur information if someone call from phone #800-259-7654

I forgot to mention that I was in Iraq in 2005 and was not really ordering magazines then.

Called me saying I owe $1124 in magazines from 2005 and I paid $29.95. They said they would be willing to settle for $250. This is a total scam. I never purchased any magazines from them. Also what magazine does not want the money first. I have also never heard of a magazine costing that much. I was rather aggressive with them when I called back and they immediately hung up. I have also filed a report with the Better Business Bureau

I keep getting calls from this 800-259-7654 number.  I finally answered the call and they said that I owed a debt of $64.48 for a magazine subscription from 2001 to an adddress I NEVER lived at.

I told Luebke Baker & Associates to Validate the Debt for me and she said they could not. I asked for the "Diversified Marketing" number, which is where the original debt is through.  She said she could not give me that information and that I would have to write in.

I also asked why I had a debt from 2001, yet no one ever contacted me.  Luebke Baker was assigned this debt in 2004, so its taken them 4 years to call me? Yeah, sounds good!!!  Last time I checked, they legally have to verify the debt, and after 7 years it comes off my credit anyway. So, sorry about their luck.

After receiving a call today from a man calling himself Louis and noting there was a lot of noise on the other end (sounded like a lot of people talking on telephones) I chose not to identify myself though he did ask for me by name. I asked him to leave a message which is when he gave me 1-800-259-7654 ext. 120 but refused to tell me "who he was" other than his name or why he was calling. Then I checked online and here I am. Now I need to know how to make it stop happening again because I realize I have received a few others. I do not want to call them back.

I have recieved several phone calls from 561-948-8090 . when we answerd the phone there was never anyone on the line . I recieved another call from this number today but we were not home the caller id always reads Return Call. I called the number back too see what this was about the phone rang about 8 or 9 times and then this lady answerd the phone she was talking to someone on the onther end. It sounded like they were friends or something .when she realized that i was calling in reguards to her earlier phone call,she asked me for my name and phone # .. I asked her what this was about.. she said that she needed to find my info. first. the back ground on her phone had no noise at first and when she realized what my call was in reguards too .some background noise of people talking and phone calls being made and recieved came on. i thought it was strange,but then  she said she found my name and told me that she was calling to try and collect a debt. when i asked her what the supposed debt was . she told me that i had order over 400.00 dollars worth of magizines back in 1998 and that I had made payments of 189.00 dollars from my credit card or bank account but then for some reason I stop making payments..  I told her that I had never order any magzines let alone $400.00 worth and that I found it amazing that a magzine company would wait 10 yrs. too try and collect on it .. She said that she did'nt know the details but that she will have look up the details from the centeral rescourse office.. I told her that this debt was not mine and that i was not paying it Again I told her that 10 yrs. seems like it would out dated for any collection atempts. She began to get defensive and she that debt collection has no statue of limits and it did'nt matter if it was 1 yr. or 20 yrs. if you owe my company will hunt you down and make you pay. I told her that she had the wrong person and i'm not paying for a debt that you calm was made 10 yrs. ago.. She then changed her adituded and told me that is understond that it would be difficult too remember if I orderd magzines that long ago. She then said that she would check it to it and call me back she said that if she did'nt get in touch with her i could call her back @ this # 1-800-259-7654 ext 120 and ask for Robin.. I think this is some kind of scam but I'm not sure..

these scammers tried this on me in 2001. they said I owed 400$ for magazines,(that would around 20 subscriptions!), but gave no titles. I refuted, they dropped the billing to 200$, I refuted again, they dropped again, finally got down to 70$, and I told them I'd contacted the Fed. theyhung up, quit sending dunning letters. SCAM!! they don't keep records of who they have called eiother, 'cause I got another call from them this week! make sure and tell Elders NOT to agree w/anything from these thieves!!!

I made a mistake and order very cheap magazines on line.  I recieved a call from a foreign person pressured me into extending the service for an additional cost.  I was driving a car and said okay.. Immediately tried to cancel and they hung up on me or said someone else would call me back. This went on for a long time. They charged my credit card several times without receiving any magazines.  The bank fixed that for me and then I started receiving collection call from a Lukie, Banker and Associates. They tried to get me to pay as a settlement more than the original amount.
I told them I was reporting it to The NC Attorney General Office which I am doing.  This is a huge scam.  Beware!!!!

Set up payment plan in october to pay $300 instead of $800 for magazines they couldn't send to the right address.  Set up bank account information and everything, they never took the payment out.  6 weeks later started receiving calls from Specialty Dept. and one that read 'data error'.  Spoke with an associate and supervisor from Lukie, Bankers and associates and they had no record of me making a payment plan and kept trying to get the full $300 or I wouldn't be offered that deal again.

Called my house a number of times the past month and when i finally talked with them they claimed I owed 61.66 from a 400$ bill from 1999.  When I asked how they found me, they claimed they only had an address from a very previous residence but would happily update my records.  When I asked for an address from them to send them letter or fax they gave me a PO box and this 800 number.  As I told them, it was pretty amazing that after almost 9 years a magazine company would try to collect 61$.

This company called my house today. They say I owed them $400, but if I paid $200 I wouldn't owe anything else. For some magazines I never ordered. They said it was from 2001. They know some of my past addresses and said they had mailed a bunch of letters, but I've never got any of them. Also they couldn't tell me which magazines I even ordered. They said I'd been paying off a balance of $1200 in till 2001. Boy I bet that would be a lot of Magazines, and I think I would remember paying someone $800. Since I was in collage during that time. And only making $400 a month.

This company has called  my house every day....insiting that i wrote a check to them in July of 07, from some unknown bank, that i don't bank with... to pay a debt that was already payed 7 years ago...... needless to say when i rqt a copy of this check i didn't haer a word.....
