go to donotcall.gov and register your number. It can take up to 30 day after registration to take effect.

Scam call from 800 266 2266
E. Mahoney 2014-05-28 03:33:34 Unknown
800-266-2266 is a scam. Is there no governmental agency that can put a stop to this?
had enough 2014-05-28 02:29:33 Unknown
This number called but left no message. I don't answer numbers I don't recognize. Want them to stop? Set your answering machine to pick up on the second ring. Set your message to the default on your machine. Cuts down on most scam calls.

Consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

Received thirteen calls from this number in the past 24 hours. They claim they are from the Windows Service Center and ask questions about my computer. They insist that it is infected with viruses. Reported to the "Do Not Call" website, but they keep calling late into the evening. After 10:00 PM is not cool. Tried asking them to stop calling, but they hung up. Tried yelling, but they hung up. What can we do?
Pook 2014-05-03 15:09:59 Unknown
My caller ID says this is HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. It's probably not. They called under different numbers on my home phone 16 times in a 24 hour period.

Needless to say con artists do not care about the law. Besides one of the issues here is that this is an overseas operation that is spoofing their number and the DNC registry does not apply to companies overseas.
Even so, report them to the FTC and the FCC.

If you get a call with nobody on the other end it is because you (along with several others) have been chosen by a computer. Whoever gets to the call first "wins" the call. The rest of you get dead air. Don't worry, they'll get back to you later.
Too many calls from these clowns. But they are dirty. The first time they called they asked if I was running Windows. My reply...if I do it's registered so you should know (they claimed to be from Microsoft). Many calls later I get one from some idiot who tried his pitch. I told him I knew it was a scam and I'm on the DNC list. To punish me for my intelligence he called back over and over, one call after another. I picked up and asked to speak to his supervisor. I asked what is ID # and name was. He gave me a name that basically meant Motherf***er in his language. He finally tired of me and moved on. Many more calls (private name, private number ignored) and I get a call yesterday. When the spiel started I hung up. Again call after call over and over. Scumbags too stupid to get a real job I guess.

If Mom gave them only the computer name (number) and the password she uses when the computer boots up, then that probably won't compromise her security. If she gave them the name of her Internet Service Provider (ISP), her ISP password, her email password, or her IP address, then that's a problem.
She should change her email password, her ISP password, and notify the ISP company, if she's concerned.

Ugh!!! My elderly mother gave them her computer information and password. Then she panicked and hung up. Same bit about a windows virus. Can anyone tell me what I can do to fix tugs before they wipe her out??? She logged out and unplugged but I doubt that will fix it. What kind of A**HOLE takes advantage of people like this?? Please help! Thanks in advance.

This is a scam. I am an IT technician and they are claiming to be from Windows Support but they also state they have zero affiliation with Microsoft. I decided to play along for a moment and they asked me to open my registry and add an entry in the System32 section of the registry. This is a direct attempt to have you place what can be described as an anchor in your computer. It sends out a sort of signal that they can use to get into your computer and steal as much information as possible to steal your identity. Do not fall for their sorry ploy. Best off hanging up and informing the Better Business Bureau.

Receive calls telling mt there is a problem with my computer. IYjeu have called about 6 times over the last month. I asked how I can check on them, finally I asked for someone who could speak english more clearly. I asked where they are located, they said California, I asked three times in what city, finally they said Washington.

I am sick of the calls from this number... They don't leave a message and I have tried calling the number and it does not go anywhere. Once I answered the call and there was someone on the other end. I told them to stop call ing me. Someone should do something about this. They are obviously scammers!

No message. I refuse to answer

This is the first call I have received from this bogus operation in about a week or so. These people can't be all that smart or they would have figured out that their call is being cut off for a reason.
I am tempted to remove the block I put on the number just so I can string them along. If I do, I will try one of two things.
1) Act like I am unable to connect to the website they are asking me to visit and follow that by asking if I need an internet service to connect to a web site.
2) Pretend I own a Commodore 64 and see how far I get.

I have been receiving these calls from 800-266-2266 for a couple weeks. More annoyingly, they always ring two of my numbers simultaneously! The one time I had a conversation to see what they were scamming for, similar to worker.gov, they said they were from Microsoft, were receiving errors from my computer, which was infected, and wanted me to log on to let them fix the virus causing the supposed errors. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, they got very belligerent and I finally just hung up. Since then, I have answered the phone "Fraud Department" a few times, which causes them to immediately hang up (and gives me a small bit of satisfaction), but it hasn't stopped the calls. Any suggestions?

I received a phone call at 6 am this morning. I was just heading out to work. Told them to F**k off and never to call again. Came back after work to find two calls, one at 7 am and one later as my family is sleeping (husband is on nights). My apologies for the language but honestly at 6 am and I spoke with two different people... a man and a woman. When I asked for the reason of the call she said that they were being "paid" for the call.

I got several calls from this number too, but this morning they called a 6! and told me to wake up and get to ymy computer

This operation is based overseas. Unfortunately these operations are not obligated to follow the do not call registry since it only covers US companies. So they aren't going to listen to anything you say to them. They expect you to be gullible enough to fall for the scam. The best thing to do is block the number or look into a device that will do this for you. Outside of that, ignore these telemaggoters. They aren't worth entertaining.

I just got that call about an hour ago I called him on it and he got flustered I told him i was reporting him to law infrcement and He said Fu Fu F'er.lol i guess Windows (Microsoft) likes cursing at their customers

1-800-266-2266 They were calling several times a day I answered and it was an Indian sounding women and she said windows speech and I stated loudly I am on the do not call list! I heard her say to someone else "what do I do now?" and then click.
Nancy 2014-04-16 16:42:30 Unknown
These 800 266 2266 calls are from India and they are a scam. They try to gain remote access to your computer claiming they are from Windows. They aren't from Windows or Microsoft, they are thieves trying to pphish your computer for accounts and passwords. JUST HANG UP. The 800 number is phoney. They are patching it through some other number. The number can't be blocked because it's not a real number.

Just got a call today, 815am, 16April2014 from 1800-266-2266. I am just putting them on block. They didn't speak, I heard them hang up (click!). I am on a no-call list so they shouldn't be calling me at all.

Harassment calls... Saying they are Microsoft... They are not.... I have asked every time to delete my number, yet they keep calling, our number is a private number too!
Leave me alone!!
Every person... Possibly 6-7 calls now has been an Indian accent... Microsoft is in Seattle.... I live in Seattle... Next time they call... I will report them!
MidNYteStorm 2014-04-15 20:12:55 Unknown
Its a bogus operation trying to pass themselves as Microsoft.
Southwest Virginia 2014-04-15 17:56:06 Unknown
Received call from this number today. I only answered because of my child napping. No one answered so I hung up. Noticed that they had called less than an hour prior and left a message (of silence). Noticed two earlier calls in the day on ID from unrecognizable numbers... Perhaps the same ridiculous garbage. :-/
MidNYteStorm 2014-04-13 22:14:47 Unknown
The issue is that they are based overseas and US law does not effect them. The best thing to do is block the number and file a report with the FTC and the FCC.
MidNYteStorm 2014-04-13 18:53:59 Unknown
Microsoft techs do not monitor your computer for viruses and or call you about errors.
