reg. big phone bank-from observation and reading pages as this one, seems that the 'victims' of this operation of 'stokers'' should check w/some people they know, or had met, eq, maybe some of the folks that live in the area. Kids, pranks? It's a big time harassment and bullying , eq-targeting.

Debt Collector
NEVER give anyone your checking account information over the telephone.

Debt collectors are forbidden from calling you on your dime, i.e., at your expense, such as using cell phone time you pay for by the minute.

If they are calling about an old or outstanding debt, even if it has been paid, simply ask them to send you the claim in writing by USPS mail.  After you have the information you can then write a cease and desist letter instructing them to correspond with you by mail only.  If they ignore your instructions and continue to call you by phone, you can collect compensation from them for each subsequent call...and it adds up quickly.

If you are not responsible for the debt, i.e., if it was incurred by the previous subscriber of the telephone number, get their address and send a cease and desist letter requesting that they only contact you by mail.  This creates the paper trail that an attorney can use to demand that they stop harassing you.

Read up on the TCPA (Telephone Collection Practices Act) and the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act).  These acts have teeth and you can use them to stop the harassment.

Often times the debts they are calling you about have been resolved or are beyond the statute of limitations.  They are hoping to scare people into making a payment by phone, immediately, by threatening you with a law suit or a negative report to your credit rating.

Don't be fooled!  Begin with a C&D letter...from that point on, never speak to them by phone.

If you ever receive a notice of a law suit from your county court system, either see an attorney or show up at the court at the time of your hearing.  Often times these bottom feeders do not have the right or proper documentation to collect money from you.  If you do not show up, and many, many people don't, they will win by default.

Good luck!

They have not complied with bankruptcy law. Seeking legal counsel on harassment.

UNFAIR OR IMPROPER BUSINESS PRACTICES

Examples:

Those contacting debtors not making clear who they are, who they work for, what their role is and the purpose of the contact

Contacting debtors at unreasonable times and/or at unreasonable intervals.
It is unfair to communicate with debtors, or their representatives, in whatever form, in an unclear, inaccurate or misleading manner.

Failing to provide debtors or their appointed representatives with information on the status of debts

Failing to take appropriate steps with a view to ensuring that available data/information to inform the pursuit and recovery of a debt is accurate and adequate, such that the debtor and the (amount of the) debt can be correctly identified from that data/information failure to do so may result in:
? the wrong person being pursued for a debt, or
? a person being pursued for a debt that does not exist, or
? a person being pursued for an incorrect amount.

Requiring an individual to establish that he is not the actual debtor by producing his driving licence or passport, or by providing a copy of his signature. Requiring an individual to prove he is not the actual debtor who owes an outstanding debt.

Ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make demands for payment without providing clear justification and/or evidence as to why the claims are not valid.

Shop NBC (under this and many other numbers) harassing me about an item my fiance had sent to my house for me.  It was defective and returned.  We have proof of UPS pick up and have sent a copy twice and UPS says they delivered it back to them.  Shop NBC claims they never got the item, refuses to call UPS and insists that they have to have the *original* proof of delivery or they can't do anything.  They don't need the original, it's just a lie to try and get the proof away from him. They shouldn't even be calling me as I'm not at the billing address.

I'm not sure how many dept collectors you know personally, but there are debt COMPANIES dedicated to harassing behaviors and scamming people. Comments like yours are what scares people into thinking they have no rights! You all have rights! A debt collector WILL call a person who owes NOTHING. PLEASE, please look into the FDCPA, people. There are lawyers who will take you on contingency because you have such a strong case! The only way these people will follow the debt collecting laws is if they are FORCED to! They have laws just like WE do! ALL of the people on here have very strong cases for harassment. I have repeatedly told these people that they are calling the WRONG number, but they continue to call. This is NOT "conducted business," this is harassment. Plain and simple

Figues, a comment from a collector.   And they get lied to why, because in many cases what they are calling for are accounts that are outside the allowed parameters for collection, or have been paid ages ago.    Easy way to scam un-suspecting folks into paying for monies not owed.

Folks, check your credit reports, if there are no deliquent accounts then this is a wrong number of an attempt at a rip off.

No problem with legitimately owed. ( Caps indicates you are yelling, which is typical yell at people on the phone, yell in posting).  And Legitimate collection agencies don't employ the type of tactics that companies like CPC do.

Personally I would never work as a collection agent if I had to lie, and harass someone.    You could be in the same position hopefully the very company that you work for calls you constantly incorrectly.

And no I don't have any outstanding debts that are not being paid, and I am most thankfull and blessed.

If you are thinking of filing a complaint regarding this company with the BBB don't waste your time, they are not listed and the BBB will not be able to help you.

Additionally they call with a large selection of numbers none of which match.   I have been called by three different numbers for someone who does not live here, and the last call they knew it was a wrong number and laughed.

Why the State and Federal Gov. does not do something about companies like this is beyond me.  Waste millions of tax  dollars on absolutely worthless grants but do nothing about companies like this.

I simply block their number, if they continue to call back I will find a complaint with the phone company for harassment.
