Received a call from this number and a woman was seeking me and was angry when I didn't give her my name right away. Then she asked I was married to a Christopher Davis which of course I am not. When I asked her for her name she said Christine Klum. Of course a false name I'm sure as well. This woman was very rude. After this she hung up.

James, that tactic does not work.  The ignoring the calls part. I haven't answered one of these type calls in two years.  They have neither stopped or subsided.  These people are relentless.  If they don't get the debt settled, they merely sell your number to a different collection agency.  Sometimes the calls might stop for a couple of months, but then they start up again with a vengeance.  Different set of numbers, new collection agency.
I want to make it clear that I do not now, or have I ever owed credit that I did not pay and pay on time.  These weasels are looking for the previous owner of my number, who for all I know, is probably still listing it on her credit applications.  Dang it Brandi, stop!

I had an outfit try that on me.  I went to my bank and opened an additional account.  Every month I deposit just enough to make the payment.  These guys lie about the payment plans.  This also works for things like gym memberships and other things that won't stop taking payments after termination of a relationship with them.  When I'm done I just close the account and notify my bank,

It was two months ago when "Brandi Kendricks" called me. She was very nice and courteous and she said that she could arrange to have my debt cut from $15,000 to less than $500. if I gave her my bank account information and agreed to have her company automatically withdraw $50. per month for ten months on a monthly payment plan. I agreed after "Brandi", assured me that this was legal and that I would get an e-mail receipt every time they took out the money. I gave her my bank account numbers and my e-mail address. She told me that the first payment would be withdrawn within a few hours of the call.

When I went on my computer later that day to see my bank account I was shocked and fainted when I saw that most of my money, over $6,000. was gone. My bank and the police told me that there was no way to trace the withdrawal and press charges because the account that was used to get my money was a fake and the phone number that was on my caller id was fake too.

My advice to all of you is to never ever give out your information and don't answer your phone if you do not know who is calling. From now on I let my answering machine record all unknown calls. I am now in serious trouble financially because of this.

I really hate getting called terrible names and being accused of not paying my debts. The person identified himself as Erin (?) and when he refused to tell me who I supposedly owed money to, he told me that he would tell me only if I admitted that I owed money to someone. I am 72 yars old and own my home, owe nothing to anyone and do not even have a credit card. He wanted my bank's name and my account number so he could get direct payment of over $15,000 he claimed I owed or he would sue me. What the heck is going on????

Keep getting calls from this number and telemarketing pitches on my cell.  This is how I resolved it...save the number in your contact list as Scam 1...2...3, etc. and set their ring tone to silent or no ring.  Now when they call I'm no longer bothered with them and don't even know when they call.  Each time I get a call like that, I just add them to the Scam contacts with whatever number is next in line.

Saying he CANT send me any mail but can email me. I told him I don't own a computer he got even more mad. I asked him to write down my address he refused to sayong he didnt want it. I told him I can't pay him unless I had something in the mail. Which at this point any company would be happy to mail something. He yelled at me so I just hung up.
I even asked to speak to his manager he said there was nobody else higher than him. I doubt that.

Someone from this number calls my home phone every day, 1-2x daily, gets my voice mail but leaves no message. I called back, guy who answered wouldn't give me his name, said he's looking for XXX. Told him I never heard of the guy he's looking for. He asked me if I was this guy.I told him to take my number off his list, that I've asked several times in the past to have my number removed. He said he can't control what other companies do. Every question I asked of him was met with some stupid remark or evasive answer. Company is called Credit Control. Anyone know if there hiring, so I can maybe get a job there, get all the employees numbers, and call them at home all day.

This is the third time that I have been contacted over a debt that has been paid years ago! Needless to say, after uncovering their scheme of being FRAUDS I was hung up on. I told the woman on the other end that she would not be receiving any commission or bonus money off me. I thought it was pretty funny.....

Same as above, bottom feeders in the debt collection world. Not worth an answer as all their staff are bottom feeders as well.  One day they will all wake up and realize they are on a path to no where. I only imagine how they feel around their friends and family or church members when they have to hide what they do in life. What goes around comes around they say.

Had a call from this number yesterday. I would advise people to take this very easy step. If you have caller ID and don't recognize the number simply don't answer, it's that simple. The calls will either stop or reduce greatly. If you answer that only verifies that your number is valid and they won't stop. In my case I have a hospital bill that I have been paying, for over a year now. I set up a payment schedule by submitting it in writing to the accounts dept of the hospital and have been paying ever since. The hospital decided to employ collection efforts, despite accepting my monthly payments. I am a former collection manager for sub prime loans(high risk) and as long as your payments are reasonable there is nothing they can do about it once they start accepting the payments, and of course if you continue to make the payments in a timely manner.

When you are first contacted about a debt merely notifiy them via certified mail that you do not want to be contacted in any manner about this debt. If they send you letters, keep them and don't open them. If they continue to contact you, after you have given notification to them, they are in violation of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The only recourse they would have is to take you to court. At that time you can show a list of payments made to the account and also present evidence of any contact made to you after your written notification for them to stop contacting you.

My advice is given so people will pay their bills, not avoid paying a lawful debt. If you set up a reasonable payment plan and stick to it you will never have to worry about legal action. They do have the right to submit the debt to the credit bureau, but after the debt is paid it will be removed. When someone evaluates your credit bureau account they are generally more tolerant about outstanding medical debts. If you are asked about it you can state that you have a payment plan in place and are making regular payments.

They have called me from this number a couple of times, maybe 3.  I'm sure it's a debt collector looking for someone who previously had my number.  Brandi Kendricks.  I have been getting calls for Brandi for about 18 months now.  Many, many different phone numbers.  I finally broke down and shelled out the 100 bucks for the Digitone call blocker.

That thing works great.  I just block out all the area codes that these guys are using.  I have 25 area codes blocked so far.  No more annoying calls.  I just love it.

No, it isn't. Read on:

Feds, states cracking down on debt-collectors

(MoneyWatch)  Have you been contacted about repaying a debt you don't think you owe or faced abusive tactics to collect a debt that is yours? You've got plenty of company.

Reports of rampant debt-industry abuses have legislators, government regulators, and consumer protection agencies taking aim at the specialized financial firms that try to recover "Zombie" debts, or those past the legal statute of limitations for collection. Other common offenses -- trying to collect from people with the misfortune of having names similar to that of a debtor and violating laws that ban collectors from threatening and harassing debtors.

The Federal Trade Commission is expected next week to reveal that it is taking action against a company that allegedly worked with a call center in India in an effort to badger consumers into paying debts they didn't owe. It's just the latest in a series of federal enforcement actions in the last year aimed at stopping abusive and fraudulent collection practices.

Consumer watchdog bureau proposes rule to supervise debt collectors, consumer reporting agencies
6 things you should never reveal on Facebook
How to become a millionaire

The newly minted Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, meanwhile, has proposed a rule that would heighten regulatory scrutiny over an industry that's generated more consumer complaints than any other. An Oklahoma legislator also has introduced a bill to curb abuses in the state.

Why all the attention on debt collection? About 30 million Americans face some form of debt collection, owing an average of $1,400 in back debts, according to the CFPB. In the past few years, the industry has become dominated by debt collectors that have purchased bad loans on the secondary market for pennies on the dollar, said Bill Bartmann, who is president of Tulsa, Okla., debt-collection firm CFS II and who helped write the Oklahoma proposal.

Loans might be sold repeatedly, with lenders transferring consumer data, frequently without ensuring that they know who actually owes the debt. The result is that a growing number of innocent consumers are being being pressed to repay debts they don't owe.

Unlike a retailer that may want to collect a debt without losing a long-time customer, these debt-buyers have no customer relationship with the person who ran up the bills. Thus, they're often far more aggressive than the debt collectors of yesteryear.

Consumer-protection law bars collectors from using abusive and harassing tactics, ranging from calling at work and calling excessively to using profane language or threats. However, these laws are frequently ignored. The Federal Trade Commission reports that debt collectors are the subject of more complaints than any other industry.

What can be done? The proposed Oklahoma law provides a nice framework. It would:

-- Establish a program for state supervision and licensing of debt buyers and employees

-- Ban collection of "zombie debt"

-- Require debt buyers to provide proof of the debt before filing litigation

-- Require debt buyers to prove that consumers receive notice of litigation

-- Require that debt buyers provide proof of the debt to consumers upon demand

-- Authorize consumers to record phone calls from debt collectors

-- Authorize the state's attorney general to impose fines and prosecute violators

-- Increase the penalties for debt buyers and debt collectors who violate the law

-- Discourage the filing of frivolous lawsuits by awarding costs to the prevailing party

-- Require that debt buyers, when transferring a debt, transfer all information about the consumer

In the meantime, consumers need to know their rights. If you are being harassed by debt collectors, check out the FTC's primer on the Fair Debt Collections Act.
