Got the same scam today and called the number to ask them what, exactly, were they a Motor Vehicle Division of. The man that answered told me it was a "company" and I asked him if he was aware that this notice has an official-looking seal on it. He replied that it would say if it was a State Department of Motor Vehicles on it and I told him that was some shady nonsense. Honestly, they shouldn't be scamming old people and the vision impaired while wasting paper and ink.

You can alway tells it a scam by the wording.

This is a SCAM< SCAM< SCAM... the only vehicle service contract worth getting is through the manufacture of the car. not some second hand, half wit outfit that send you a letter.

the coverage is worth less than the postage on the front.. I just turn it over and run through my printer and reduce my paper cost every
year with junk mail stuff. Give it a try. on the back side its a clean sheet of paper. waste not want not.

The dealer sell them the information.

The federal DPPA (driver privacy protection act) and it Shelby Act amendment from 2000 specify that official motor vehicle and driver's license records are no longer public unless you specifically give your permission (opt-in).  Scammers get their information from big direct-mail list providers, who gather data from a variety of other types of sources, such as the dealers who sell and repair cars.  So:  flim-flam is still a problem, but your MVA is no longer legally allowed to be the source.

A second official-looking letter from this group in a week! Fits the descriptions above.... in Maryland, it is NOT registered with the Attorney General. Urge all of you to also report to your state's AG.

I also received this as a single-sided, one-page letter, with "Motor Vehicle Division" in the top-left corner, the words "Vehicle Document/Alert Notice Personal & Confidential" below it. My name and address were printed on it, as well as my vehicle's VIN number (in multiple locations). The generic "Make: KIA - HYUNDAI - SUZUKI" was displayed, but without my vehicle's model.

It screams SCAM all over it.

It creates a sense of urgency by displaying the "Notice Date" showing over a week ago, but the "Deadline Date" showed today's date: meaning that I'd have to make a decision and respond immediately or "risk losing coverage."

There is no indication of the company name -- anywhere -- on the document, although the phone number was repeated everywhere over the page. If this were a legitimate company, the 800 number should have been on a Contact page that an online search would have found (it could not be found). The document was printed on generic green paper, and looks like it could have been printed from any random laser printer: no watermark, no company logo/insignia, no brick-and-mortar address.

I won't even attempt to contact this company.

DMV records are public data. When you register the car with the DMV and get a new title, the data is available to these scammers trying to sell extended warranties. Shred it.

I purchased a 2007 car in August from a dealership.  Paid cash for it so no lien.  Got the "official looking" letter today.  Interestingly is references purchasing a "Hyundai*Kia*Suzuki" and yes, I did purchase a Hyundai Azera.  Again, though, I paid cash so this info didn't get passed along to a lien holder.  

I gave it to call and they said it is called the VSC administration.

I received a letter as well. It was when I registered my car in a new state. I had to mail some letter from the DMV to my loan/lien holder to update my information. So I am guessing it's my lein holder.

Since it doesn't say the make of the car its clearly an aftermarket warranty providor.  I have had these contact me before.  What I want to know is HOW did they get my Name, Address and Car type ?
The DMV or the insurance company sold my data.
