They called for my son who hasn't lived with us for a few years. Her name was Jessica and she said it was a personal matter. I told them I'm not a liberty to give out any phone numbers.

This is indeed a company called United Collections Bureau, but I have reason to believe the calls that I am getting (and that others are getting) are not real attempts at collection.

A friend of mine who works for a law firm told me that it's common practice for collectors to call random people who owe nothing just to get information.  It's another form of phishing.  Here is why I believe that this is what is happening to me:

Last summer, they started calling us and wanting to talk to my husband about a delinquent JC Penney's account.  We don't have a JC Penney's account.  We didn't give them any personal information when they asked for it, like address or social security number, but they did tell us that JCP's credit company, GE Money, had referred the debt to them for collection.

So, we called GE Money and JCP.  Both companies confirmed what we already knew: that we didn't have a JCP account, and thus owed nothing.  Worried about identity theft, we ordered a credit report, which of course was perfect.  It didn't show any new lines of credit opened within the past several years, which was the final fact that proved UCB (or the people claiming to be working for them) were outright lying to us.

Just to reiterate:  a person has to provide a social security number to open a line of credit, and when that happens, it shows up on your credit report.  If your credit report does NOT show evidence of a line of credit being opened, then you are OKAY.

The problem then, of course, is getting these b*****ds to stop calling.  They won't.  So I just have fun with them.  Some of them are very well-trained, others not so much!  I've messed with them so much now, they use a private caller ID display when they call me.  I guess they really think that one day we're going to crack and give them all our personal information so they can bleed us dry.  HA!

I keep getting calls for someone else from United Collection Bureau.  How do I make it stop.  I guess it's for the previous owner of my number.  I've had this number for about 7 months now.

I get a phone call from United Credit Bureau on an almost daily basis. Whenever they call, the number on the caller ID only displays "1419". A message is usually left which states "This is a call for (?????). If this is not (?????), please disconnect. By continuing to listen to this message, you certify that you are (?????). It is suggested that you listen to this message is private, as it contains personal and private information. There will now be a three second pause.(?????), this communication is from United Collection Bureau. His is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose. Please return this call before 9 PM Eastern Standrd Time to 1(999) 999-9999" (sometimes, an extension number and reference number are left) .

May I point out:

1. Whenever I get these calls, the caller ID device only displays "1419" (whey does it only display 4 digits and not the complete phone number)?
2. My answering machine/voice mail system is excellent, but it can not terminate/disconnect a call, therefore, I believe (that in the minds of these caller(s)) that since the calls are not disconnected as requested, the caller thinks they have the right person, and they continue to call.
3. The call back number changes all the time, this time it was 800-299-0979 (last time I received this type of  call, it was 866-559-4301).
4. Is there anything personal or private in the messages left? I don't think so.

I do not know if these message are automated or if a human being leaves them.

I can only assume that if the calling organization is United Credit Bureau, then the call probably has something to do with debt  ollection (providing that United Credit Bureau is a LEGITIMATE debt collections firm).

I hope this information helps.

It's United Collection Bureau, Inc., their address is:

PO Box 1418
Maumee OH 43537

Send them a letter telling them that you do not want to be contacted by phone but that you would be happy to respond to a letter. When they send you anything in writing send a letter of dispute (you need to use  the magic word "dispute") about the debt and ask that they provide valid evidence of the debt, to you. That usually does the trick, because collectors almost never have any proof.

They are United Collections Bureau.  A collections agency.  They like to leave deceptive messages on your voice mail like you won a prize or something.  They should be reported for not following the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act.  There number is 800-299-0979.  Report them to the better business bureau.

This number called my work looking for me. When I got on the phone the woman identified herself as Ms. Brown and started asking me to verify who I was. I asked her what this was regarding and she refused to tell me anything about it until I gave her information. I refused and took her number, telling her I was unable to receive personal calls at work and not to call me there again. When I called back later I gave her my address to verify who I was (I had read this was a Debt Collector and was worried something had happened to my credit cards or something). Immediately she realized that none of the information was lining up and basically told me that I was the wrong person, that the one they were looking for had my same first name and worked at my company over 3 years ago. Not the same last name, not the same job. Same first name. I then proceeded to tell her to never contact me again.

Thanks for posting everyone!
This group (???? !!!!) has been calling incessantly, but often not leaving a message (hang up).  If they leave a message, it's just a name (i.e. "Honey") and the 1-800 #, extension, file #.
I finally captured one message (finally) where they said they were UCB.  That's the only time they self identified however.
Also annoying is how they've dinked around with their caller id.  It's been showing as "419" for the past month.  I wish that kind of crap was illegal.
BTW - if you're getting called very frequently, you might want to check your local County and State regulations.  Where I live I can file with the local County Circuit court a form that says I'm being harassed by this caller and it demands they stop.  You might have to pay a fee to file the form with the court, but it would push them to act responsibly.
Best wishes!

Yeah, I get messages from them trying to find the person that had my cell number previously. They obviously don't bother listening to the voicemail where I clearly state my name and I'm not some Vietnamese man that they and many other banks/creditors were apparently trying to find (probably bailed and left the country hence how I got the new number when I got my iPhone). Makes sense then that it would be a credit bureau.
