Got a call last night AFTER 9pm, which is supposed to not happen according to the CRTC.

they say they are st catharines firefighters but its a scam.
DO NOT believe them. Local companies that call don't have 10 second delay in answering. These calls are coming from overseas.

I answered to dead air; they hung up after a few minutes

I just got a call from this number. I didn't pick up as we seem to be getting stupid calls all the time. Any ideas?

i've received 5 calls from the St.Catharines Fire department in the last 48 hours. This time it was from this number but not before. On my phone it showed up as "Toll Free Service". I told them each and everytime that although I donated last year due to being ill and on sick leave from work any money that I have is being budgetted until I am able to go back to work. They keep calling and I feel bad for having to tell them no over and over again. If I was working I would again donate but I cannot afford it.

Unfortunately the NDNC (National Do Not Call List) has alot of problems
- it does not cover businesses which i think is bs because at my job we would get these calls all the time to advertise in flyers and stuff when we tell them over and over not interested and remove us from the list. I called the DNC and they told me that because the number they are calling is a company phone line that they cannot help.
- when you register on the DNC sure you will get less telemarketing calls, but there are some exceptions including:
?registered charities
?political parties and candidates
?opinion polling firms or market research firms conducting surveys
?newspapers calling to sell a subscription
?organizations that have a business relationship with you, for example:
?you?ve done business with the organization in the last 18 months
?you?ve inquired about the organization's products or services in the last 6 months

I don't think these people calling are actually fire fighters. They are professional fund raisors operating under the umbrella representing fire fighters.
This is very intimidating, after all ...who can say "no" to fire fighters or police. but before you agree to give them your hard earned cash , remember that the chariity you think you are supporting receives about 10%. The rest of your money goes to  pay salarlies and expenes for the fund raisers themselves. Nice work if you can get it!!!!

I hope your house burns down and there isn't any funding to have enough people to save you! :)

Please if anyone reads this please please reconsider if you were ever going to donate to them now or in the future.
NEVER give the stcatharines firefighters your time or money ever.

They are breaking the law with their harasment type soliciting.

Do not respect these stcatharines firefighters ever. They have crossed the line.

I saw what another poster above did and I too am withdrawing our companies donation to the StCatharines Firefighters charity drive. In fact i contacted several associates and urged them to do the same.
They themselves had calls like this or knew someone who did.
We figure all collectively, we are denying this organization over $30,000 in donations.
Hope your telemarketing calls were worth it!

And yes, I did call their 1800 # to be removed over a week ago and the calls still come.

Everybody - Say NO to the Stcatharines Firefighters anytime EVER if they ask for any type of donation.
Maybe then will they learn.

They called several times and i have been very politely saying hello - yet no one answers.
well the jokes on them. i am in charge of my companys donations accounts and i was looking for a few charities that we give to, to cut back on so i can give to another one and lo and behold, i just found a big one to stop supporting.
Looks like their donation will be going to another group. And they will miss it.
Thanks for not answering the phone - made my decision easier - and to think i wasn't even thinking of cutting them until the call.

That is the do not call list.
Has to be from the number you want blocked.

Not a scam but just a mistake.
They mean no harm and were mostly calling locals about a fundraiser.
They will speak to you and are polite and will never call you again if you so wish.
