received repetitive calls from this number!! have told them to please discontinue calls, but they still persist. I have never registered to donate money, but they state that I gave them $15 dollars last year. they are a nuissance and they know that i do not want to talk to them, so why are they continuing to call??? i have no debt with them and I don't want to donate money to them! Plus I'm on the national dnc list!

Received many calls from 1-800-301-0117. They never leave a message, they just hang up. I'm suppose to be on the do not call list.

1-800-301-0117 has been calling the last number of days. Today already 12 times, sometimes a few minutes apart. So far my caller ID shows 50 calls from this number. I spoke to them once weeks ago, and they tried to make me believe they are the American Cancer Society. They are: Cancer Fund of America, and they spend over 65% of what they collect on fund-raising according to the BBB.

I've received calls, about one a month, for the past three months from 800-310-0117. A pleasant female keeps informing me of past contributions to "Cancer Support Services" and that I pledged $25 which they haven't received. This time she gave me the following address:
Cancer Support Services, PMB 238, 4057 Hwy 9, Howell, NJ 07731.
This is probably a scam. I haven't been able to find this name listed as a legitimate organization. Maybe the police should find out who lives at that address.
Listener Michael 2007-09-14 00:36:48 Unknown
amen to that.
They called a few times, I answered once and agreed to a small sum, but then they continued to call, and I can't seem to get them off my back.
I have sent an email to them at their site www.cfoa.org, and will be attempting to put a block on that number, if possible.

I got a call also for a donation. I was in a rush and just to get them to leave me alone I said I's donate. She kept me on the phone for a cou[le more minutes confirming info. I got the paper work and threw it out. About a week later got a call at about 8pm in Nevada - which I think is kind of late. She was rude to my husband who answered the phone. When he asked her who this was she said " I want to speak with her -she's the one who made the donation". When my husband handed me the phone- instead of introducing herself -she says did you get it. I respond "get what" "who are you" . She respond Cancer something or the other- I just pretend I didn't know what she was talking about and she then asked if I know anyone who would have made a donation- I responded "no". this whole thing semmed so suspicious. the vagueness, the rudeness everything about this phone call. Anyway I just wanted to post so people would be aware that this might be a scam- just like so many others out there.

Someone called from the Cancer Fund of America I am on the do not call list. I was an easy mark they said I donated $35 before I was tired and I fell for it. I said I would again. I received the info and was going to do it but now they have been calling again and I haven't answered it. After reading the comments made here I think something is fishy with this also.

This number keeps calling and calling and calling and will not leave a message. Here is a record of their calls: 8-07-07 8:17 PM, 8-08-07 7:48 PM, 8:21 PM and 8-09-07 at: 1:29 PM, 3:06 PM, 7:19 PM and 7:33 PM. I tried to tell them not to call, but the guy hung up before I was able to say anything. I called back and got a freaking LONG recording. I left a message to be removed, but I doubt that will happen as they don't have courtesy enough to not call multiple times a day. I really feel that charities should be on the do not call list as they are merciful when calling. If we want to donate, we are able bodied ppl to look up their info, call or mail them our donation, we don't need them searching us out. It's very aggrivating and makes me not want to give to ANY charity because of this... I can definitely say we've decided not to donate to a few places because of this very behavior.

The Do not call list does not protect you from charities calls. Form the "Do not call registry" website http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt107.shtm
29. If I register my number on the National Do Not Call Registry, will it stop all telemarketing calls?
No. Placing your number on the National Do Not Call Registry will stop most telemarketing calls, but not all. Because of limitations in the jurisdiction of the FTC and FCC, calls from or on behalf of political organizations, charities, and telephone surveyors would still be permitted, as would calls from companies with which you have an existing business relationship, or those to whom you?ve provided express agreement in writing to receive their calls.
30. Are calls from political organizations or calls soliciting for charities covered?
Political solicitations are not covered by the TSR at all, since they are not included in its definition of ?telemarketing.? Charities are not covered by the requirements of the national registry. However, if a third-party telemarketer is calling on behalf of a charity, a consumer may ask not to receive any more calls from, or on behalf of, that specific charity. If a third-party telemarketer calls again on behalf of that charity, the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.
31. What about telephone surveys?
If the call is really for the sole purpose of conducting a survey, it is not covered. Only telemarketing calls are covered ? that is, calls that solicit sales of goods or services. Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the National Do Not Call Registry.
32. My number is on the National Do Not Call Registry. After I bought something from a company, a telemarketer representing that organization called me. Is this a violation?
No. By purchasing something from the company, you established a business relationship with the company. As a result, even if you put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry, that company may call you for up to 18 months after your last purchase or delivery from it, or your last payment to it, unless you ask the company not to call again. In that case, the company must honor your request not to call. If they subsequently call you again, they may be subject to a fine of up to $11,000.
An established business relationship with a company also will be created if you make an inquiry to the company, or submit an application to it. This kind of established business relationship exists for three months after the inquiry or application. During this time, the company can call you.
If you make a specific request to that company not to call you, however, then the company may not call you, even if you have an established business relationship with that company.

I'm just wondering, if these calls are coming from an outsourced location in India, or elsewhere....I wonder if the calls are recorded (they do not inform that the calls are being recorded)? I might try asking this question next time they call and, if they are actually calling from overseas, I might just let the caller know a thing or two.
Drew 2007-07-30 15:54:37 Unknown
They call me constantly, at least once a day. I never answer my phone until caller ID shows who's calling. They use one of those computers that dial like 6 phone numbers at once. Which ever phone number gets picked up first, connects to the sales person. The other five get dead air when/if they answer.
Since I wait for caller ID, I'm sure I'm never the first to pick up my phone.

This number has called me at least twenty times in one day. I finally answered and asked who they were calling for and they hung up. This has been very frustrating as they start about 9:00 in the morning and the last call about 8:30 in the evening.

anyone claiming nonprofit can call regardless of your do-not-call registry status. in my state, parties are requied to provide a call-back number and display on caller ID (toll-free counts as compliance as long as the call-back is displayed). calling via automated dialer, however, is not permissible, and if they are hanging up on you that is harassment. contact your phone service provider, claim harassment from this number (tell them you have already requested to be removed from this callers list a number of times - even if that isn't necessarily true), get a trace placed and request your provider contact their provider to cease and desist. phone service providers do not appreciate their customers harassing the customers of other phone service providers. a pain in the rear, yes, but also the only solution if you want the incessant calls to stop. how these people have time to call back the same number over, and over, and over (how many numbers are they dialing every day!?) is beyond me! if you want to hit them in the wallet, however, answer the phone and keep them busy as long as you can - it's their nickle. and as for their legitimacy, they are a service hired by the charity, not the charity itself. as for "cancer research"....well....that's another story. if you want to donate to cancer research take your money to your local charity where you can ask questions and talk to a real person. better yet, donate your TIME to your local hospital. these folks are just in it for the $$$$ cancer "research" and "treatment" is BIG money in this country and has little to do with actually curing or treating anything, regardless of what "Lance" is telling you.

Hah! They just called me and told me I donated $150 to them last year at this time and asked if I would renew the pledge. I've never heard of them before and if I had donated $150 of our paltry income I would have known it!

I typically don't answer calls with numbers I don't recognize. They have called me a couple of times in the past week.
Other research shows that it is an organization called Cancer Fund of America. If they are a non-profit, typically they aren't susceptiple to "Do not call" rules.

They call all the time I have asked that our number be removed because We already give to several other programs,it falls on deaf ears.I wonder how many millions they could raise with a different concept on raising money for a worthy cause.

Called at approx 3:45pm, no one spoke when I answered although I could hear breathing. Got a machine when I called them back; left message to remove me from their list and that I am reporting them. I NEVER give to agencies that solicit for funds! I have known people who've worked at such places and as much as 85% of the income goes to "overhead"--the boss's Mercedes.

I WORK for a nonprofit organization, and this doesn't ring right with me. I'm more than happy to donate, but there is no way I'm donating over the phone when someone calls me and begs for money after 8:30.
ANY organization that does that has just lost my respect.
Beth W. 2007-07-05 15:34:18 Unknown
I got a call this morning, around 10:00 AM. No message was left. We should get a law passed that says 1-800's must leave messages. It would make life a whole lot easier and would make these calls a little less scary.
I didn't pick up, but if this call is from Cancer Treatment Centers of America, then I'm wondering if this call has any connection to the fact that I had a friend who, about a week ago, died from Cancer.

The woman had a spanish accent and said my first name. Because my last name is difficult I knew she was not someone I knew. Therefore I asked what it was in reference to and she said am I who she was calling for. I said because she was not forthcoming about her call I would not respond either way and hung up. I am on the do not call list so I will be reporting this number to the feds.
