This number keeps calling for my husband. They will not talk to me. They say they are with the ACS, when my husband questioned them they finally said Associated Community Services after stammering around for a few minutes. When my husband said he doesn't know who that is, the man hung up. But they keep calling.

As I gather from other websites, this is a company that collects money for whatever charity hires them.    They could be calling for law enforcement, disabled kids, breast cancer, and so on.  I gave the phone to my 3 yr old and let her talk to them about whatever.   It really annoyed them.

From late October to now (12/17/09) if I pick up the phone I get 5 sec of snappy samba music and then (in Portugese) "for Portugese press 1" followed by (in English) "for English press 2". If you call the number you get the same message and if you press 1 or 2 you get "enter your credit card number" (either in Portugese or English). They call 2 times in the evening and, being an 800 number, can not be blocked.

I received two calls this week.  One on 1/11 and 1/12 both at 12:30pm.  I attempted to call back.  I received the same recording asking for my card number.  Unfortunatley, I don't know who they are or why they are calling.  It's annoying.

Being on the do not call list does not work when it comes to charities or political parties. Not giving to telephone solicitations and always telling them no and to remove you from the list works very well. The reason they tell most people that they gave last year [A LIE] is that people tend to give in that case as they feel maybe they did and just can't remember. Any organization willing to lie to get you to donate is obviously not worth your time or your money. As much as I would like to give to some of these organizations I have stopped because of the telephone solicitors and the ones that lie. I too have experienced a solicitor get angry and then call me heartless for not giving that was my wake up call, I do not give to any of them anymore. The calls dropped off after 6 months and then after a year nothing, somehow after getting married I had a couple calls and they asked for my wife [breast cancer society]. If you give by phone to anyone of these "organizations" the company that had been hired by anyone of them now has your number and a record and has determined you to be more likely to give. Stop giving to phone solicitors and they will be shut down!
If you want to give to an organization - look up their address on the internet and mail a check to them some of them even accept donations on their website the best method is a check and a letter with no return address - anonymously. If you donate by credit card - they have your address, if your letter has a return address - they have your address, if you donate anonymously by check they need to do a lot more work to get a name and a number - unless you have it on your check for them to see.

dial the call back it says press one for Portugese, two for English and then enter your card number, if you press 0 repeatedly eventually a digital voice comes on saying no one can help you at this time and then disconnects.

These guys have called my home number about a 100 times.  They ask for my wife by name and don't want to talk to me.  I've told them not to call bur it doesn't stop them. I work at home and the continual calls are disruptive. I tried calling the number and it answers in Spanish.  That should tell you something.  Nobody should donate to anyone that calls you on the phone.  That will stop it!  I hope the FCC and the telco companies rip them a new as@##!

This number has been calling my home for days now.  I called it back and got a recording that said to enter my card number.....I have no card with this company.   I entered some random numbers and the recording said 'we are unable to assist you at this time' and hung up.  Be careful with these callers.

One more irritated recipient of these unwanted calls. As a senior, I would hope that someone would have the ability to put a stop to this type of calling.  These calls are helping to convince us that we should just terminate our phone wired service. So far our cell phones seem to the preferred method of communication.  I'm even moved to text messages with our grandchildren...hopefully our fellow seniors will adopt txtng!

When I asked him who was calling he said do not worry about it.  I said that is fine, I have your #.  He said "yah, I have your address."  I felt this was a threat to me and my family.

Got a call from this number and made the mistake of answering.  The guy said they were calling because I gave to their charity last year.  (Not true, but I did make the mistake of giving to a breast cancer org via telephone solicitor in March, and now I get calls from everyone else saying they're calling because I gave before. I guess they share info.)  Anyway, this guy was soliciting for "Amber Alert" for all the poor little kidnapped kids.  The thing that bugs me about this is that, first, the charity gets a minute portion of what you give through this method - in this case, 8% - and second, I was a police officer for 25 years and I don't know anyone who ever got money from some "Law Enforcement Education Fund" or whatever, and Amber Alerts don't cost anything.  Moreover, the vast number of targets of Amber Alerts are "kidnapped" by non-custodial parents or other persons known to them.  For those who are kidnapped and harmed or killed, do they or their families get any of th-ese donations?  I doubt it.

Give them the phone when they call.   I gave the phone to my 3 year old and let her talk to them until they hung up on her which was about one minute.   Next time I will put it on speaker phone so I can hear what they say but it annoyed them nonetheless.   Really any age child will do.  If you're going to bother me with daily phone calls I will waste your time by letting my child have the phone.  HA!
