They're a telemarketing company called Global Tele Services working for Discover Enterprises. It means that when you bought something over the phone or internet within the last couple of years, that company sold off your information including your name, number, and credit card info (last four digits) to other partners. It's f***ing retarded and a frustrating ordeal. If you want to find out who is annoying you, call Discover Enterprises directly at 18003402754.
That's what I did.

Saturday, 11-8-08, received call from 800-308-9740. Person introduced himself as Patrick Smith. He had a very slight brogue or accent indicating a speech pattern of what I associate with persons raised in or by parents that are from and still speak with their native accent from the far east (India, Pakistan, Turkey). I am not trying to insult any of the countries or persons of those countries that I have mentioned, not Patrick, his accent or his family or their accent or country of origin. It does at times seem that persons from those countries fall prey to being involved in situations like this. Calls from persons or companies with similar intentions that originate in Jamaica are among the most frustrating I have dealt with. I am sure all countries would like to rid themselves as well. If written text were a recorded conversation most people hearing it would quickly determine where I was raised and live. Patrick was speaking to me and wanted to speak to the wife about her bank debit/credit card account ending in last 4 numbers that were correct for an account that the wife had canceled 2 years ago due to attempted unauthorized use in Turkey. Patrick as he called himself may be real, as innocent as the driven snow was clean over 200 years ago and himself trying to make a living while being taken advantage of by the company using the phone number 800-308-9740. By this time Patrick could sense a little tension, worry and frustration in our voices. Patrick said not to worry there was nothing wrong with the account. Patrick was going through his prepared speech to get to whatever he / his employer was and still are up to. My guess is not good because Patrick did not say sorry, thank you or much of anything else as soon as the wife told him that account had been canceled for more than 2 years due to attempted unauthorized use by someone in Turkey.
The wife was watching a television infomercial. She used her card to order via the PHONE number provided on the TV infomercial one of those small kitchen gadgets that cooks from both sides, FX101 or something like that(pretty good gadget). About a month to 6 weeks later we received the call from the card sponsor asking if the wife was attempting to use the card in Turkey to make a purchase costing several hundred dollars. Bottom line it was not us. Using your bank credit / debit card even over the phone has its risks. My guess is that the call center in general, wherever it was or one of the employees, or someone somewhere else in the purchase transaction gained access to the wife's card information. Luckily the bank caught the transaction but to our knowledge not the person.
Be careful

I have been receiving calls from this number for about 6 weeks. I have answered 3 times. Each time "they" are wanting to reward me for being in such good standing with Visa/MC, quoting the last 4 digits of perspective cards. Each 3 times "they" offered me a different set of "props" trying to get me to take the bait. HOWEVER... THERE IS A S&H CHARGE FOR WHICH THEY NEED YOUR ENTIRE CARD #!!! They want to switch you to a different person to verify mailing address and other info, at which time I always say "NO THANK YOU, I AM NOT INTERESTED!!!AND PLEASE PUT ME ON THE DO NOT CALL LIST." Each time the S&H decreases, and they have gone as far as to say "You're stupid for not taking the $60.00 gas card free of charge for the $2.95 S&H just for reviewing the other products and offers." They keep calling. Be very careful.

Received call from this number tonite. First the lady, who spoke very broken english, thanked me for using my Visa and being a great customer. When I denied having a Visa, she asked for my husband by name and gave the last 4 numbers of his Visa, which happens to be a deit card. She said he was able to receive some very special gifts. I told her we were not interested and to remove us from their list. This makes me nervous and I feel they are phishing for info.b9c9

This number has been contacting me for a couple of weeks. I have never answered and they leave no message. I tried calling it back and it goes directly to a computer asking me to hold for the next available operator. I did not wait and hung up. I decided to look them up and found this site. Glad my feelings were right. This is some sort of sales call.

I meant to say at the bottom that I didn't answer the question and hung up. Sorry for any confusion.

Some lady who could barely speak english asked if I was the authorized user of a credit card ending in "5213". I asked her to repeat and she said it was a Discover card (which I've never owned). I didn't answer the call and I hung up. This is very shady.
