I'm on the Do Not Call list - This person called asking for a 'Mr. Carter' After I told him that I was on the Do Not Call List - he immediately hung up - working as a telemarketer he didn't follow government laws. They have to tell you that they'll add you to their list, provide a phone number on behalf of who they're calling from and exit the call. This was not done. I'd like to esculate this.

Called back and, of course, got a machine and it is the Armed Forces and no one was available at this time.  I have recently been getting numerous calls from the PAL and eventhough I ask them not to call the keep calling hoping to get my husband to answer.

I have Comcast cable and there is a way to block callers so that's how I handle these annoying callers for now.

I am also on the 'no calling list'.  How do we report these callers?

This is the United States Armed Forces Association, a non profit saying it supports soldiers with your tax deductible contribution.  I never give to charities over the phone.  They often want your immediate gift via credit card.  Never give your credit card number out to someone who calls you out of the blue.  My mother has made donations by credit card over the phone and the next thing you see is a 1.00 charge on your credit card (scams do this to verify the number) and then you'll see a monthly charge of 24.99 or some such small dollar amount appear on your card.  When you call the credit card company to dispute the claim they urge you to call the bogus biller  before the credit card company will take action!!  Even though you are telling the card company it is a fraud.  How many people in their 80s can successfully challenge a credit scammer over the phone when they are frail enough to have fallen for the phone scam in the first place??  I eventually got all charges reversed on my Mom's account, but it took time and persistence which the elderly who have no close relatives cannot do.

In summary don't give out a credit card number to anybody who calls you seeking donations etc.  And don't get me started on what happens if you use a debit card and give it out over the phone.  Suffice it to say, check your credit cards to make sure they aren't actually debit cards (you have almost no protection for misuse of a debit card unless the bank grants you a little mercy) and take your debit cards and tear them up and refuse to accept them from your bank.  Credit cards give you more protection and provide a little float before you pay them monthly to avoid finance and late charge fees.

Non-profit orgs. do not follow the national do not call list because they are soliciting for charities, or so they say.  Only way to get them to stop calling is to find out who they are, go online and enter your number on their do not call list.

You can block with comcast. Dial *60 you will be promted to make a choice, in this case your choice will be 2. Then you will enter the number to be blocked followed by the pound # sign. You can block several numbers and when you reach your limit a recording will tell you so. You can also remove a number or clear all numbers to add a new number. I hope this helps!

I received a call from this number, wanting a donation for care packages for our soldiers overseas. I normally do not donate over the phone, but my brain was apparently on vacation and I said I would give $40. Then he wanted a credit card, and I said I would prefer to receive a mailed request. He was reluctant, gave some song and dance about needing the donation to get the packages to go out right away. He handed me over to a woman who also tried to get me to donate via credit card and was shocked when I would not. She had all my info--address, etc., which is easily obtainable off the Internet. She wanted me to promise to send it out right away. I looked them up online, and while it is a registered charity, I doubt from what I've read that our soldiers see much of the money. It goes to the telemarketers and the people who run this show. I think it's a scam.

Just got a call from them, January 21 at 11:45am. I screen my calls, because despite being on the do-not-call list, I get this crap all the time. The machine picked up, and all I heard was static and crackling that went on several moments before they or the machine hung up. I only *69ed because I was waiting on a call from someone else and wanted to see if it was them. I think it's bs that our phone numbers are given out like candy in the first place; I consider that private information, and if I did not give you explicit permission to call, it is a violation of my privacy, just as if you were trespassing. I don't need this harassment, and if they were really interested in doing something about it, they wouldn't just make a do-not-call list, they'd make it ILLEGAL for ANY company to give out your number without your express permission.

Went down same as Kris's above 14 Jan 2011 - "The number called me at 8:41am, it said Charlies cars on the ID, but they said that they were from the US Armed Forces Services looking for donations for troops in afganistan to send t and asked me for a Donations I said okay, but then they sent me  to another person looking for me to give either a Credit Card or debit Card number. I told them I was not comfortable giving that information over the phone. So they said they would just give me a packet in the mail and hung up." - except they called at 9:36 AM from some place called Charlies Cars.

Caller asked for a name I'd never heard of before.  When I said "Sorry, you have a wrong number," he said my name in a questioning voice.  When I asked him what this was about, he said sorry and hung up.

easy fix if you have a fax or AIO printer: just add the number to you junk fax blocker list. it will ring once and the junk fax vlocker kills the call.

Telemarketer
Received a call from this number on 1/14/2011. The caller ID read as Charlies Cars. The caller identified himself as a member of a professional telemarketer agency. He said that he was collecting funds for the U S troops in the Middle East. I told him that I did not have any money. He asked for any amount, even as little as $20.00. I told him that I really could not, at the this time. He thanked me for my time, and hung up. He gave me the utmost courtesy.

Same thing happened to me.  Received a call from that number on 1/14/11 at 10:40 AM, came up Charlie's cars on the caller ID.   Caller said he'd send us something to send a donation to folks in Afghanistan but never asked for a credit card number.  We're supposed to be on a no-call list.
