Two years ago or so I made the mistake of giving them 20 bucks, and what i got is endless harassing calls from many other charities, SO I  have removed my answering machine from my phone line and connect a FAX which answers after two rings and believe me it is pretty loud, I hope they get my message,  and BTW it does not have any paper!.
So thank you for making my phone a dial out only (useless)

1-800-326-1783 "IS" the Toronto Police Amatuer Athletic Assoc,I once  donated a sum of money to them,and annually since then I get repeated calls.

I simply ignore ALL 800, 866, 877 etc. numbers.

If it's anything important they can leave a message.

Most of them never do.

Answering phone calls when you don't recognize the number is much like opening your door without checking to see who's there.

I keep getting calls from them, but nothing about Toronto Police Association. They're asking me to donate for the Toronto Blind Association!! Has anybody been contacted by them recently?

If it's a scam, can't the authorities do something about it? They're harrassing us!

I donated to Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association a year or two ago and after that my number went out like wildfire - everyone was calling.  The last time I talked to someone from this 'organization' I told him that I was annoyed by their distribution of my phone number and that I wanted to be removed from their contact list .... I still get the calls but now it's only dead air

are you serious? cause i got a really weird vibe when that guy called and when i asked him if the charity was a scam he hung up on me. it would make a lot of sense for me if what you said is true... if so, how do you know this?

THESE PEOPLE ARE HUGE SCAMMERS, BENTLEY'S PARKED UNDERGROUND. THEY SAY IT'S MONEY TO HELP LESS FORTUNATE KIDS. BELIEVE ME THEY COULD NOT CARE LESS.  ALSO THEY HAVE A DOWNTOWN OFFICE TOO. Just got a call a couple of minutes ago.  If the Toronto Police Association does not do any canvassing over the phone, they better investigate and charge those who pretend they are police over the phone under the pretext of gathering money in their name.  Personating a peace officer is a serious offence in it of itself, collecting money while pretending to be a police officer is definitely worse. if this has been brought to their attention and they have not done anything about it up there in Toronto, well I wonder what kind of police officers are answering the phone and logging calls.  This could fall under various homeland security violation here as well, they should be reviewed with the full brunt of the law to determine where the funds collected are going to.

Just got a call around 11 am, May 28, 2009 here in Toronto. Since it's a 1-800 number (which usually means it's not important whatsoever) I didn't pick up and the caller didn't leave a message.

I just googled in this phone number, 1-800-362-1783, and this site was the first site I found regarding this phone number.  This person, a male, asked repeatedly for someone of my last name and I responded that the person is not here and who's calling, and he said he'd call back later and hung up. The caller did not identify himself. I have constant phone calls to this phone number, a Toronto listed phone number, day and night.  This happened in the evening on Wednesday, July 23rd.

Persistent caller says he (with American accent) is raising money for police officer's who risk their lives for our city. Say no! It's a scam! He became disturbed when I said I don't do transactions over the phone.

I just called TO police and they said they dont do fundrasing over the phone.

today @ 1:11pm, calls and hangs up.. previously called at least once a week, and hangs up.. I have gotten through to someone before - mind you it did take a while of waiting on the line when they called me...

I have told them to take me off the calling list in a very mannerly way. However.. I still get calls for the last 3 years!!!?!?!

STOP CALL ME dammit.. how do I make them stop calling ?  its very annoying. This is a work number. *sigh*

I get calls from this number once every two weeks or so. I called the number back and there was an automated response but you couldn't speak to anyone. I then contacted the number listed on the TPAAA website and spoke to a young guy about the calls. He didn't know anything about them but once I gave him the number he said it might be a company called Xentel that the TPAAA hires to call to raise money for their various events, and this was confirmed by his boss... I'm still not sure whether or not it's legitimate, but the guy at TPAAA seemed pretty genuine.

The other thing i found out is that they are not the only ones. There appears to be a common scam pretending to be part of some city police force calling for donations, but they usually call _other_ cities to make it harder to check.

The organization exists ( http://www.tpaaa.ca/ ), but the callers are fraudsters.

Ignore the above response.  The so-called Toronto Police Association or any similar alias do NOT collect money this way, never have and never will.  That person likely works for these credit card / bank account scammers.  Avoid or lose your funds.

The number belongs to the Toronto Police Amateur Athletic Association, a group that collects donations for their widow's and orphans fund.

From what little I have gathered, it appears legit, just bad management of the dialer technology.

calls repeatedly, usually in the evenings every 10 days or so. There never seems to be anyone on the line.

I assumed this was some sort of predictive dialer (calling to figure out when you are home, then selling that info)

A lady asks for what sounds like my dads name, and I try correcting her. She rudely interrupts and asks for him again. I said he's not here, and she says "ok i'll call back later" in a rude tone. Then she cuts the phone as I was saying "may i know who's speaking plesae".
