I also got 'the call' from this number. Never left a message but it is because I was using a modem that belonged to charter and when I closed my account they needed their modem back. If u get a call from them and you never had a cable modem internet account then call them back and let them know and they should stop.

As far as the collection calls and time.... the call center could be in a different time zone than he is or vice versa since it is a difference of 1-2 hours.  Also regarding it being 2 years and wouldn't be in the database, Companies often don't remove someone from the list or fail to do so and that's assuming the call is actually about returning equipment, which is highly unlikely because they would normally just charge you for not returning it and then make you call in and solve the situation yourself instead of wasting their time on it.  I've had companies call 5 years after not having service with them and I've worked in a different field where I called leads that were 5+ yrs old.  I wish companies would have some level of respect but that's far from gone now.  I truly believe they are calling to verify information to sell it to someone so they can sell you more stuff, etc.

They call me consistently.  I never answer.  It is rather annoying.  Their message in the first place makes no sense.  "This is your local cable provider calling to offer a convenient way to return the cable equipment you were leasing.  Please call us back at 18003261879.  For your convenience you may also access your account information at our website www.ersreturn.com please refer to account reference number ________.  This offer is for a limited time so please call us back as soon as possible."  The odd part about the message is the fact that they say the offer is for a limited time, which to me means that they are trying to sell something else to you.  I don't know how returning equipment could be for a limited time and if they are referring to the service of them making it convenient, I'm sorry but no cable company makes it convenient unless they mean they will show up between the hours of 7am-3pm because that's their convenient. Here is the real reason they call though..... to verify information such as name, phone number, email, etc.... just read their privacy statement.

(Straight from their website wish I could highlight but instead I put brackets/quotes so it will stand out)

Cell mssg from these bozos -- "Comcast Equipment Recovery".  Have never been a Comcast customer, and threw Charter off the property years ago, before 'boxes' were needed.
I *may* return their call from a payphone ~ several times. LOL

Got a call from this number. Didn't answer it. They left a blank voicemail which I promptly deleted. I've been reading through some of these posts & it makes sense that it's a Comcast agent checking if I returned their equipment, because I recently cancelled they absolutely pathetic & expensive services.

I am receiving calls from 800-266-2278, from a man {automated} calling himself "KEVIN" stating that I have equiptment that needs to be returned. I cancelled my cable 6 months ago, and returned the cable boxes."KEVIN" also states that he is from COMCAST and I think that they are behind this. I don't have all the receipts anymore, what can I do? I've called COMCAST, and all I get is the run-around, and the service rep. is trying to sell me their lousy services! What legal recourse do I have?

Writing on behalf of my grandmother. 92 years old. Receiving threatening calls form this number and calling me in tears. This is unacceptable that an elderly population is under attract by fraudulent individuals and still goes on during the 21st century. How many millions of dollars a going to be given to thieves that are know to cause harassment and theft. Last time I checked to see basic laws in the USA.
We all know your, number. Postings with complaints since 2008.
I have personally Made a police report with the Metro Dade Police Department.

I believe about half of your story. Collection calls do not come before 8am or after 9pm. If it is a contractor, they only call whoever Comcast tells them to call. If you returned it 2 years ago, it would not be in the data base. Contractor are not hardly paid for the modem. So I find it unlikely that they would keep calling you.

Wow some of you are retarded. If they called you on your cellphone. And the person they are looking for is not you. It probably means, that someone at some time had  your number on their account.

I returned their modem 2 years ago.  Approximately 2 months ago, Comcast - through their "Equipment Recovery" service, began calling me between the hours of 7am and 9:30pm demanding that I return their modem.  I have called Comcast numerous times, even went into their Federal Way store and received written verification that the modem was returned and that the calls would stop.  The calls continue.  Comcast accepts no responsibility - they only generate "tickets" and refuse to allow me to speak to a supervisor.

There are some cases where a family member or someone who is living at an address was recently disconnected, usually within a time frame of one to two years and has left a balance that needs to be collected. When this occurs the customer is asked how long they have been living at the address and if it is within that time frame then the debt needs to be collected. If they say they just moved in then they have to come into local office with picture id, ssn card and lease but they are usually asked as to not have the customer deny if this other person ever lived there. Some providers have databases that can verify this information and if the debt is collectable either service is interrupted or a payment arrangement is made.

Just b/c the calls stopped, it doesn't mean they are legitimate.   It may just mean that once u reconfirmed who u r, they had no reason 2 call u.   I very much suspect they are hiding behind that "recovery" front.
I will ask Comcast directly if these people work for them or not.   If not, I will need to find out how did they get my account number.

No, I was indicating that the person that called me had stated that they were representing Brighthouse Networks.  I do not work for or represent Brighthouse, either directly or indirectly.  I am just a little fuzzy orange creature with a long snout, trying to survive in my strange little isometric world.  I am a former customer of theirs, and the only reason I am no longer a customer is I hopped all over this pyramid, changing all of the bricks to the target color, thereby earning myself a promotion to the next pyramid.  Unfortunately, Brighthouse is not available at this pyramid, and I have had to settle for Verizon.  As to my racial comments, I realize that not all ethnicities fit into those stereotypes.  However, when the shoe fits, as it were... when someone exhibits behavior that suits the stereotype, a racial slur is warranted, and even expected.  Incidentially enough... Trayvon had it coming.  SAVE ZIMMERMAN!!!!!!

Wow! If you are representing Brighthouse Networks, don't you think you should keep your biggoted racial slander to yourself? Or are you actually representing the views held by Brighthouse?

I have gotten 3 calls from ERS on behalf of Comcast telling me to return my equipment.  I returned the stuff on Jan 23, 2012!  I called the number and told the lady that it was all returned and she said they would make a note of it.  I asked her about the calls since I had turned it in already and she said that they call everyone who cancels service.  She said they don't who has or has not returned the equipment.  She would make a note in my file and the calls would stop.  I have also paid my final bill with Comcast and was not charged for any equipment.  I guess they just call everyone trying to get more $$$.  What a waste of time and money!
