My 77 year old Mother had $139.41 from this # on my debit card listed as match.com today.  Fraud.  Bad part is if the company won't reverse we are stuck with the charges.

this 35.99 charge went onto my card and it went through. after that about 5 charges tried to go through and were declined (one to homedepo.com for almost $800). My card's watch dog service was onto it quickly and the only charge that slipped through was the match.com. I was locked out of my account and am down to fumes in my vehicle after using my last cash yesterday for fuel to get me the 100 miles I needed to make. today I do 180 miles and was wondering what I was going to do. my bank is great and have a new card enroute and left my debit portion of the card unlocked till the new one comes in. this initial charge must indeed be a gateway charge. if it goes through, more are behind it.

So it's really comforting to know that 4 years running and this issue hasn't been resolved (I hope you can feel the sarcasm and frustration seeping out of my pores). Same story: Charge made for Match, of which I haven't been a member of in YEARS, and the credit card number is definitely different than any they would have had on file. I called my bank and reported the fraud, and the fraud unit tells me that a credit had already been issued to my account immediately after the charge.

I changed my debit card information anyway, but as soon as 8am tomorrow hits, fraudulent phishing company or not, I am calling Match.com official number and demanding an additional payment for the pains I need to take to be out $60 for the next couple of days, change all of my payables that have my current debit card already set, and then the time cost of wasting my lunch hour getting a temporary debit card so I can have access to my money until my new card arrives (7-10 business days)!

Maybe I'm PMS'ing, but after reading all these things, I want to find the @sses responsible and beat them with a flogger that has jaggedly cut credit cards on the ends. That would certainly spoil someone from wanting to get their grubby little hands on other people's money.

I was charged 3 times by WMV Matches.com. One on on Friday and twice in the start of the month. I've never sign up for matches.com nor have I even been there. After ordering something from Amazon.com I went to check my Online Banking to check my current charges and I found matches.com charges. I called my bank and they canceled my card on the spot. My advice to you never sign up for those kinds of sites nor even go on them.

Same thing happened to me just last week so it obviously is going on still. Discover Card was very helpful in making sure I would not have to pay for it, only problem is I am going on a trip and have no credit card. I will be calling Match.com this morning but am not anticipating the same response everyone else has been getting.

Having followed 800notes for some years now, I have watched the knavish tricks used by these monsters become more devious and, sadly, effective. This is a case of where they zap your bank statement. There is also the gambit wherein they phone you in the middle of the night to make you think it is a call about an emergency; it isn't. What frightens me is that these monsters are becoming more and more "facile" in getting people's information, apparently even from their banks!

Personally, I would avoid all these "match" type sites like the plague. Who knows what wolves are hiding behind the sheep's clothing?

I noticed 2 charges for the wmv*match.com TX 800-326-5161, different amounts charged the same day, but the second one was reversed by them--I called and talked to 2 people, and the other amount will be reversed and the card blocked by them. Very satisfactory solution. And the card has been cancelled so those who have the info can't use it any more.

All these dollar amounts being charged to everyone's cards are so INCONSISTENT.  I have never used a site like this so I don't what is normal, but could it be that this is not match.com at all?  Just a call center in India under the mask of a reputable company name?

I too just saw 2 fraudulent charges - wmv*match.com TX 800-326-5161 for 35.34 on my account today, as well as one for wmv*chemistry.com TX 866-610-6338, that charged 39.99 then credited the 39.99, all in the same day.

I have never visited these sites, never signed up to the sites, ever.

Being it's Friday night, no one answers, including my bank.  I called the match.com number, and it is a legitimate phone number, but of course, after hours it is not answered by a real person, just a recorded message telling you to call back during regular business hours.  Luckily I reported to our lost/stolen customer service number and the card is deactivated until I can reach my bank.

How is one supposed to investigate this these dating sites when they require you divulge your card number, thereby increasing your risk even more?!

Just checked my credit card online as I usually do every couple of days and noticed first a refund of $34.99 from WMV match.com and then a charge.  Looks like I'm not out any money, but now they do know that it is a valid credit card, so will have to freeze it.

I just found a charge for $34.99 on my debit card account from WMV*Match.com from 7/20.  Being that I don't currently nor ever have had an account with you, or any contact with you for that matter !!
I will be reporting this as soon as I send this message. With the research I did after finding the fraud on my account, it appears this happens concerning you quite a bit.  SHAME ON YOU,  WMV*MATCH.COM !!

UH, They refund your money as part of the SCAM!!!  When you call them back, they kindly tell you they will take care of it for you but you must provide the card number so they can "look up the details" and transfer you to "CORPORATE".

The scam is --- when you give them the information they asked for???

I got a charge of just under $100 and it was refunded the same day. It was from Match.com.

I called the 800 number that was posted beside the info on my e-statement (debit) account and the front line customer service representative insisted that since the charge was both posted as a debit and then a credit, then must be transferred to "a rep at CORPORATE".

The kicker was....in order to be transferred to "CORPORATE" you must provide the front line representative with your credit/debit card number (then further providing the information they need).

I told the front line rep she must be crazy and to transfer me to her supervisor. She put me on hold for about 3 minutes, came back and said that she spoke with her supervisor and he told her he couldn't accept the call until the card number was provided so she could pull the entire activity on the file and then her supervisor at "CORPORATE" would be able to give me all the info used by the obviously fraudulent, unauthorized charge.

I told her she was stupid if she thought I was going to provide her more information and that she was being recorded and would hear from my attorney. Click......Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Received a charge and a (in my case, matching) credit from the number.  Interestingly, I just requested a reissue of the card less than 60 days ago because of another fraud.  CC company verified that the charge is on the *new* account number rather than the *old* number.  So the number of people who have had access to the card in the intervening time is much smaller than usual.  Doesn't sound like they're able to do anything with it though.

So here we go again, updating all the stored credit card numbers with all the auto-payment programs and paypal and etc.  Ugh.

I was wondering if you could explain something to me since we seem to have had a similar experience...I noticed a charge from WMV*MATCH.COM on April 4th. I called my bank, cancelled my card and filled out the papers to have my bank put the money back into my account. BUT, before my bank refunded the money, WMV*MATCH.COM had already reversed it's charge and refunded the money. I am so confused because from the research I have done, this is a scam so why would they would refund my money? I am thankful they did, but baffled at the same time. If you have any helpful information I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

We just got hit with $35.99 from WMV*MATCH.COM 800-326-5161 TX 75206 as well.  They had already issued a reversal by the time I called.

Understand - this is NOT match.com falsely billing you or running a scam.  Your credit card, like mine, HAS BEEN COMPROMISED.  You need to contact your bank and get a new card issued immediately.  If match.com doesn't catch that it is a fraudulent charge, just call them - they will reverse the charges.  But again - they are not the ones who have stolen your information.  It has likely been compromised on another website and simply used on theirs.

This site charged my account and I never even visited this site before nor did I ever become a member. This appears to be a scam. They need to stop going into people's account and charging them for crap that they didn't do.

Wait 'til it happens to you.  My BANK took money out of MY account, and charged me an overdraft fee, when someone made a withdrawal from their account with only a partial bank account number.

I was also charged $35.84 and then refunded $34.02 by match.com. I have never signed up to their service or even visited their website. I did cancel my card. I am wondering how much money match.com is making by sending back MOST of the false charge. If they charge thousands or millions of people then they should be making a great deal of money for nothing. It seems that this has been going on for several years. I did file a report to the Better Business Bureau and I suggest that if you have had this experience that you do so too. Google the BBB and follow the steps. It's easy. If this company has had this problem for several years and they have done nothing to remedy this bad practice then they are CROOKS. Remember to tell your friends about match.com.
