I got a couple of voice messages from this number claiming to be debt collector from NCO Financial System, leaving his name as Arnold Kates. This appears to be a scam and I hope they get shut down by authorities.

Got a voice mail stating that they wanted to verify employment and left me a toll free number: 800-334-7420. The number on the caller ID was from Wisconsin: 608-554-1259. They left no company name, no contact name. Forget it. They will get no call backs from me.

I tired of these motherf*cking calls on this motherf*cking phone!
| Dani 2013-08-09 15:18:22 Unknown |
How did you block them? This is very scary to me as I have been targeted by phone scammers before. These ones actually tried to get my info by calling me up and saying "Your father has been in a car accident, we need your information." I told him that didn't make any sense because my dad was standing here next to me. Then he said "Well I don't KNOW who he is, he just said to call you, and must be your brother or something, quick he is hurt." I told him I do not HAVE any brothers. The guy cursed and hung up. Very scary.

I just received today such a call from 1800 344 ____, and also got the name Samuel Jackson. I have been paying my debts off regularly and the people who i discuss those terms with had called me from a different # with a different opening message, so I doubt there's any link whatsoever. I think this is a scam, as I have seen a lot of clever scam and ANTI-Scam artists perform their deeds using psuedonyms of famous actors. It was the iconic shared celebrity name more than anything that threw me off. I don't know if it was intentional but I've seen other scammers and ANTI-scam artists using this same name.

I also got a call from Samuel Jackson....and had he been the actor, I'd pay him because he's one scary dude. But I called back with the ID number they left in the message and got some whinyhead whose name I missed. I verified my name and address (figure they're public record) but refused my birthdate. Then they asked for the last 4 of my social. In this day and age with all the phishing going on, I am not that stupid. I refused and he refused to discuss anything further with me. I asked for the name of the overdue bill company. Refused to tell me because I refused to give them my info. I asked for a supervisor and he was "on another line". I said I'd wait and was told he would call me back. That was almost an hour ago and I'm still waiting. Googling stuff I found that if requested they MUST mail you, within 5 days, the information about the bill. Also if during that initial contact they don't give you this info they must still mail it. So...I'll be watching my mail.
And FWIW, the parent company of NCO, called EGS, just got fined $3.2M by the Feds for their unfair debt collection practices.

Received call from automated speaker stating to call a Samuel Jackson at 800.334.0626 regarding a reputed debt. Please note that I too have a credit score above 800 -- so no, I have no debts.
( Idea: I recently re-gistered on the National Do Not Call Registry, Likely, NCO has a source -- and will pester anyone who does not want to be pestered by anyone. Same experience? Please note. )

| Don't Call Them back 2012-03-09 15:01:20 Debt Collector |
This is a scam it might be to collect a debt that's been sold a thousand times and has already been written off ten years ago and wouldn't be and can't be on your credit report after 7 -10 years depending on type of debt.
They might even call and say another name not yours and you call them back and tell them they must have a wrong number and that no one lives here by that name. DON'T DO THIS! They will say sorry it must be a mistake and ask you your name knowing full well you were the one they were after in the first place but they know you wouldn't call if they gave your name on recording.
They they try to trip you up and you say your name and they say so you are "blah blah" and you say yes and they record it attach it to the debt and claim you agreed this was your debt. It wouldn't stand up in court but can be enough to scare some people and may even be enough for them to get it on your credit report. Which again you can get removed if you dispute it but what a headache. It's easier not to call them back!
1) Just don't call back
2) Even if you're curious never give your info not even your name let them tell you everything or nothing that's their choice.
3) Like Laura they may even use your kids name to get you to call back. (sometimes thought it's a shot in the dark on their part and her son's name just probably matches the name on some old debt they bought and are trying to find info on this person. They probably made calls to 100 people with the same name to see if any stick.) So again best advice is don't answer and don't call back!

I received a call from NCO financial to call back a diane meyers. I called back and at first just got an automated system. Then I tried again and got a representative who looked up my phone number. She said my son, who is a toddler, has an outstnading debt. I told her he is a baby and cannot have a debt and she said it was then my debt. She would not tell me what the debt was for. I asked for this to be put in writing and mailed to me. She said a letter will go out. Then to call back once i received a letter. I think this is a scam. What kind of debt could a child have?????

A woman called and said that a debt needed to be collected. She kept trying to verify my name. I called back and they said my name again and asked if it was me. This time it was a guy and asked me to identify if he was saying my name. Then he asked for my birthdate. I said "no" and wanted asked him to tell me the debt, and he said, "you will have to get a letter from us." I called back a few times but got an automated voice and music. This person should be reported to the Department of Consumer Affairs and the state attorney general.

They just called me on my cell phone today at work; ignored phone call, but left a voicemail. This is from a "debt collections agency". I never give my cell # out to anyone except school, work, friends and family, so I'm not sure where they got my number, and if it were a real collections agency, they wouldn't have my cell #, only my home phone.
