The number PECO gave me match the answering machine message call back number 1-800-561-0070  This is Grid One and they are the sister company.  They had all my information I only gave them my phone number.  They will be here tomorrow to swap out the meter.
PECO and GRID ONE both stated to verify any call or message with your electric provider using the direct number on you bill. People are aware of issues of meters being replaced and are using this info to scam you.  SO please be safe and call your supplier directly to verify its all true.  When you make the appointment have someone (neighbor or friend etc) stay with you if their employee needs to be inside your home for the repair.  Check ID, look for the truck with identification of the company on it,  and BEFORE YOU LET THEM IN feel free to call the number to verify no matter how annoyed the employee may be.

I received the same call but instead called my electric provider directly which is PECO.  PECO stated that this is their sister company GRID ONE and my meter as of February is not sending readings and my bill has been estimated since then.  PECO gave me a phone number to call to set up an appointment to have them service or swap out my meter.  The phone number was the same one left on my answering machine.  I tried to contact them but they are busy so I will call back later.
PECO did warn me of scams that talk about Green Dot and how caller ID numbers can read a companies name but still be a scam etc.  Also how easy it is for someone to pretend they are from PECO since this is a common type of call that a customer would receive.  So I would ask anyone that receives a call/message to call your provider directly using the number off your Bill not the caller ID or message left to verify that the call is not a scam.  Also if someone from PECO needs to come out (you need to set up the appointment, not someone just showing up and knocking on your door) to repair this meter make sure you look for the PECO truck and the person has ID and a uniform. PECO's uniforms are blue.  Your meter should be able to be repaired without someone coming in to your home if the meter is outside. My suggestion along with PECO is to have someone with you at your home during the time of the appointment.  If you are uncomfortable call PECO directly to verify it is their employee.  DON"T FEEL PRESSURED OR  EMBARRASSED  by the employee!!!   You have the right to leave them waiting outside while you make the call to PECO.  BE SAFE BE SMART

It was ComEd calling to say that due to our extreme weather and snow they may not be able to read our meter, then giving directions on how to do it ourselves if we wish.  Otherwise we would get an estimated bill.  That was nice of them!

This number has called nine times in the last three hours, lets it ring 3 times and hangs up. Im an in Chicago and we are in the middle of crippling, dangerous sub zero temps and snow. The power did go out yesterday morning (for 4 hours, my apt. got down to 48 degrees when it went back on).  If this is ComEd calling about something legit it would be nice if they left messages, if it's just to say "is your power on" or to let us know it might be off as they fix things...whatever. Many people are not only stranded at work (highways are closed, schools are closed) but if it's something with the power it's time to go to a hotel. If they just want to follow up, how tough is that to say? I'm expecting too many calls right now to tie up my phone, but they're managing by calling me.  I owe them no money.

Automated voice message that says they are PECO (which is an Exelon company just like ComEd which is Chicago based).  I just let it go to voicemail. I just moved into an apartment about a month ago and don't have an individual meter. Plus my 1st electric bill isn't due until 11/14/13. I know the apartment buildings would have meters. But PECO would deal with the property manager for readings, not call individual tenants.  PECO closes for normal customer service at 5pm EST. So I called the 800 number on my phone which ended up being customer service number for ComEd.  I explained the situation to the woman on the phone who did look up my name and phone number which lead her to my address. She said that sometimes these calls go out if there are estimates being done for service. But she said that my buildings are actually set up for service and couldn't explain why I would be getting calls. Her suggestion was to just call PECO during their business hours to have me removed from whatever is triggering an automated call to my phone as it is probably just a system error.

i got a call from "comed" stating that my meter was broken and i needed to go buy a GREEN DOT MONEY PACK at a local walmart or cvs pharmacy. they said that my meter was overmeasuring the kilowatts and my bill was going to be more than $600. they said in order to avoi this i had to depoist money in the green dot money pack so the technitian would come and replace the meter. they said that the overwhelming amout of energy used blocked the account and i had to deposit money call a number to verify the payment and everything would be refunded. and im sitting here asking myself, "this is commed and they cant accees my account? why do i have to pay and get someone to come to my house and change the meter so commed could open my account" so i was somewhat conviced, but not 100%, so i called commed to double check that something was wrong becaue i far as i know no company charges you to replace thier meteres or cant acces your account. and sure enogh, once i reached a person i told them what happend and they said that i just avoided getting scammed. they advised me to go to the police and make a report. bewere people be smart if something doesnt seem right it usually isnt. the number they originally called was this one 1-800-334-7661, told me when i was done depositing money in the green dot money pack to call this number so they could get the problem fixed. 1-414-446-2189. beware of these numbers people

The 800-334-7661 telephone number is a legitimate one used by ComEd customer service BUT pre-paid card scammers are able to have this telephone number appear on your caller ID instead of the cell phone or Voip phone from which they are calling.  ComEd customer service will NEVER direct you to buy a pre-paid cash card (Green Dot or otherwise) and to call them back (at a different number) to provide them the card number on the back of the card.  This is equivalent to giving someone cash in an envelope and your monies on the card will be gone in a matter of seconds. Report such attempts to defraud you to your state's Attorney General's Office who have the authority and subpoena power to identify the scam caller.  Some of the call back telephone numbers reported to have been used by scammers are 202-506-8335: 619-488-3659: 630-780-4697; 630-780-6247; 619-488-3659 and 801-738-5052.

800-344-7661 is LEGIT.

Our power went out over night, I reported it via text, got a Voice mail (to the cell I texted from) from this number later letting me know it was restored, but there may be more outages while they do more repairs.

So unless someone was faking the CID for others, it is legit. Always call back to a known good number that you verify, rather than a number that was given to you, just to be sure.

I got a call from this number for a Bobby Jenkins or something. Not me. I'm a girl. I keep getting calls from them. the last time i got a phone call from them it was Aug 3. I got three todayat 8:08am CST, 4:03pm CST, and 6:33pm CST. They told me a retrieval code that I should call back and enter before the 24th. I don't own a house or anything to have a gas meter read or anything. I keep letting the calls go to voicemail. I haven't answered a single phone call from them since they started calling.

I got a call yesterday at 8:02 am and again today at 5:02 pm. I let both calls go to voicemail. They left an automated message claiming to be PICO or PECO (sounds like "pee-ko") and said that they couldn't read my meter. I don't have a meter to read nor do I even have an current account for energy/gas in my name so I think this is a scam. I wont be calling them back.
