This is NOT AT&T. It is a scam. They called me with a recording saying to log onto some website to get a $200 credit from AT&T. I didn't get the website name down right but I called the number back and the recording referred me to 800-712-3000. This is another scam number.

You're replying to a post that is years old? And yes, it is illegal to contact family members to trace a debt. No doubt you are an upright citizen thats never owed a dime in his sad little life. Trash? Look in the mirror.

You sound like a proffesional debtor. If people would pay their bills (on time) they would not get these calls, Also it is NOT illegal to contact family member for skip tracing purposes. Nice language by the way, that but thats what you can expect from trash who owes $.

I never recived a phone call from this number, however I had an AT&T "Unpaid Charge" On my credit score that was "sold to" Southwest  Credit System for a charge of $113.00. I was deployed to afghanistan at the time of "Question" did not have the tools to access anything that could have cost me. I was a AT&T Customer before but I cancelled my service by orders long before deployment and closed all accounts of possible charge.

I suggest if you are reciveing these calls, to check your credit score also. I don't know for sure if there is a link between the two, but it is odd I have the same two companys on this task.

So I just got this phone call from some lady claiming to be with AT&T telling me something about avoiding credit fraud by transferring $1000 from something to somewhere. I was disoriented since it was a phonecall I received right as I woke up, which she gave confusing information. It had to do with out U-verse account, which we do have, but it isn't under my name, it's under my mother's, so I didn't know why they were calling me. Right as I was asking my mom about it, she got annoyed and hung up.

She told me it was under an address that I have never lived at, but she also told me my 4 digit SSN, which concerns me a lot. Should I get a fraud alert on my account?

Can anyone stop these none sense phone calls, stop wasting people's time and cell phone minutes.

Got call from this number claiming to represent Cingular Wireless.  Says I owe a past due amount for $858.  Identified me with my maiden name (that I haven't used in 11 years), and demanded immediate payment or they would "take further action".  First of all, they didn't have my correct name and I haven't had cingular wireless service.  I turned tables on him, which he didn't like, because I actually do debt collection for a living....I started quoting him the laws for collection here in CA.  Total scam it is...and he knew it when I asked for his business name, address, real phone number (not portal they call from), and license number.  Refused to give it to me.   He got flustered and hung up on me.

I just reported this company to the BBB.  They call me once a month and there's never anyone on the line when I answer.  When I call back, I'm told that I'm not in their system.  They promise to remove me, and then they call again in a few weeks.  The operator this time hung up on me when I started to say "I get a call..."

I have received calls from this number daily. Whenever I answer, there is such a long pause then you get someone on the line who barely speak English. She asked for a Justin, told her that this was a business not a residence. After days of this non-sense, I called the 800# to have our number removed, I was "hung up" the first attempt, so I do what they do, called back. I finally spoke with someone else, told her to remove our number, this is such non-sense when you are at work and calls like these come in demanding to speak with whom ever they have on their "list", when you say they have the wrong number then you are suppose to know family members. I first don't know the person whom you are in search of, so obviously I can not assist you.  Seriously, get a new line of career.

The asking for verification is the new requirement for the FCRA. They must only give the info to you specifically, not a roommate, or friend. So one way to get around the new requirement is to ask you to confirm your info. That doesn't weaken your position of strength -

Here's what to do:
1. Get info - ask for their mailing address, who you are talking to, and THEIR account number on you. Then politely say, I do not recognize Debt Collectors, I do not want you to call me at this number again.

2. Fire off a Cease & Desist letter, Certified, Return Receipt Requested to their address, with the account number (they just gave you).

3. Make notes. And if you feel they have violated sections of the FCRA, get ahold of LembergLaw.com. They may be able to get you some money!

Good luck!

This was strange. I got a call from them (one of many) they ask for a person who used to rent a room from me and had his own cell phone. Apparently they got my landline number from the address. Since they keep calling I decided to call back and tell them he no longer lives here and I have no info about where he now is.
I called the number back, it said if you know your party's extention press 1, if you want to pay "over the phone" press 2, to speak to a representative press 0. I did and nothing happened. I waited. I finally hung up.
Few minutes later a woman called back, very informal (not like a business) and said "did you just call Southwest credit?" I said yes, and explained they were calling a person who used to rent a room from me but no longer did. I expected questions like "do you have a number for him now?" etc. The woman very quickly said "okay, we will remove your number (she must have had on Caller ID) and not call there anymore" I thanked her and hung up.
She sounded like a person just calling from her home or something. I've never talked to anyone about someone who no longer lives here- sometimes they call about my son who now lives in So America and hasn't lived with me for 8 or so years, who doesn't have a phone, and question me about him, who just accepted what I said, without question.
It's GOOD because the person doesn't live here and I have no info about reaching him. Just seemed odd. Unless they had down my number was one they got from the address and not his actual number, so like a "just try it" number.
I'm wondering if people call and think the only way to stop the calls is to pay the debt, whatever it is, and push 2 and put in credit/debit card info to pay it (or get it stolen) Not saying this is true, but the person who called me back didn't seem businesslike and didn't seem really interested in finding the person I said no longer lives here.
Passing this on for what it's worth.

I get calls from this number for people I don't know and supposedly for me.  I do have AT&T currently and all my accounts with them are current.  Thinking I'm going to block this number.  Still trying to figure out how they get a cell phone number and my private phone number that's not listed!
