I have been getting these calls up to 3 times a day....  Answered once... No one spoke.. I no longer answer them.... If it is indeed Discover needing to speak with me they would leave a message no?  Or send mail correspondence....

Update:  I didn't get the card.  However, I did get postcard from Karen Lawson at Re/Max.  (I put down that I rent and the timing is just too good.)  I guess I should read the privacy policy ahead of time.

Called and wanted to talk to my daughter about an application she "submitted" to discover.  My daughter has not lived here for several years, I asked my daughter if she had applied for a discover card and she said no.  I knew it was a scam since they called my number, she has her own phone number and would not use mine and lives several hundreds of miles away from me.

So I call them back and to prove my identity Discover card uses data from fraudsters Axxiom (They say they have good information; they don't; they get money.  Webster calls this fraud.) or some such.  They ask, "Did you ever use the last name Gashner?"  I replied no.  I thought the trade journal had corrupted my name as "Gahrner."  It turns out that on the web the name Radaris.com has is Gashner.  So it looks like Discover is relying on faulty information to disprove or prove identities.  They also asked my about my ex-mother-in-laws birthday.  I knew it was January.  I didn't know it was January 23rd.

To make a long story short, the people who say they are ethical (like Radaris, Discover, and Axxiom) are unethical and not really protecting us or doing not a great job.

I also received a call from this number, but I did apply for a discover card. I called back and answered their questions to verify my identity and was approved for a card, but they never asked me for my SSN.
There are computer programs out there that can mask the number they are calling from with a fake number. So beware and NEVER give out your SSN!

Called today and didn't leave a message. After finding these posts, I went to the Discover site and called customer service. A representative was able to verify that someone had put my mobile number on an application. However, they did not use my name or address or social (I only provided last four digits to the rep). So, this appears to be a legitimate phone number for Discover. And the call to me seems to be the result of a keying error of the applicant's phone number. I am not concerned that someone is trying to apply for credit using my information.

Called today and left message.  However, it would be nice if the Discover "consultants" would speak up and speak clearly.  It took playing the message 4 times before I could understand all the numbers of their phone number.

They can go stuff themselves.

I received calls beginning in December stating they were from Discover.  They had my name, address and cell number already and someone has dinged my credit trying to take out a Discover Card.  I have fraud alert on my credit report and now am receiving letters from PO Box 15410 Wilmington DE 19850-0410 requesting SSN and lots of personal info to be mailed to them.  No phone number is on this letter.

The toll free number 800-347-4736 is most definitely a scam-- I called Discover myself using the number listed on my actual statement and they verified that they do not operate with this phone number and did not have a record of any applications from me. Do NOT give them any personal information.

:This call is coming from Discover Card. I just applied for a new card. This number was given on my application to get a quick response. I called and it is a legitimate # . The only information they asked for was my name and date of birth to verify who I was.  I see no reason why they would call if you haven't applied.

Last week I tried calling the number back, gave them the number they contacted me at, and told them I hadn't attempted to open an account. They insisted on having my name which I refused to provide. Still getting daily calls. I think it's all a scam.

Today I called Discover directly. Got transferred to their security department. They didn't recognize the phone number and didn't have any accounts associated with the number I was receiving calls at. They are going to have some legal person contact me. They said the fact that they call back every day doesn't sound at all like it would be Discover.

Discover Credit Cards New Accounts. They did leave a phone message. I only called them back because I could not understand the name (the first name I could get and was a name of someone I knew, but not the last name). They looked and said that they did not have our phone number in their system (I am sure they do now...but it seems all the telemarketers do as well...). The lady was very nice. She thought perhaps someone either misdialed or could not read the phone number and that they were trying to reach a business number to verify new accounts. She said if/when they called back, let them know they have the wrong number. We shall see.

Discoverbiz.com et, al. Discover Bank, Member FDIC

Low balling builders FICO scores, you might also want to file a report with your FTC.  and homeland securities.

They are also calling themselves DFS....more than likely Discovery Financial Services.  I've never seen one.

DNCall probably a foreign exchange student looking for a student loan.

This ones FICO is a 796. We can monitor our own credit scores....idiots!

I don't have a Discover card, never had a Discover card, never applied for a Discover card, yet here they are calling me about my Discover card.  If you have a Discover card, or have just applied for one, get the telephone number from the legit Discover card site and call them, don't use the numbers provided on the phone message (and there are 2 numbers, the one they called from, which is listed on this site, and the one they say to use to call back, 800-347-3072).  Like the X Files, trust no one ;)

Beware, some of the previous posters are probably affiliated with the scammers.

Got the call from 1-800-347-4736 from "Discover Card". They verified my real name without prompt. Told me an application was filed under my name and if this was inaccurate that they needed my date of birth to file a fraud complaint. I refused. They told me to call 1-800-347-3072 (the Fraud Dept) later to file a fraud complaint, and that it would again require my DOB.  I called Discover Card through their actual homepage. They verified no record of application and that the latter number was not part of their company.

I never have applied for nor carried a Discover Card.

This number keeps calling our phone three to four times a day. I called the number back and asked to be put on their do not call list. Says she is from discover card in Delaware.  She hung up on me. If this truly is from discover card I do not believe they would of hung up.

Prank Call
It's not Discover.  The lady was very nice on the phone.  But she had my maiden name and that was a red flag.  She said she was from Discover calling about my coorespondence.  Then she asked for my SS# and my phone.  I gave her nothing, hung up and called Discover.  They had no record of calling me.  This 800 number is NOT legit.  Be careful out there!

I think two things are going on:  Discover does use this number to call back if you have applied for a card, which I did on April 3, 2013.  But I think scammers are also spoofing the same number in order to steal card numbers, Social Security numbers, etc.  Hence the rudeness encountered by some people who get calls from this number.  The call I received today was also shown as "Toll Free Call," which is usually the sign of a scammer.  I told the service representative that she should check with their technical people, and suggest that they encode "Discover" for the Caller ID rather than "Toll Free Call" if indeed that is what they are currently using.  This won't guarantee that the call is from Discover, but it might help in many cases.

This phone number appears to be operating out of a P.O. Box 15410 in Wilmington Delaware. They appear to be a negative credit reporting agency, who is fishing for information on you.

They are reporting falsely with credit scores and most likely don't speak english and are hurting for money.

They appear to be using the Verizon's network.  Little do they know, two of the Verizon's stores were shut down in Richmond, Virginia.  These flagrant individuals are on the move and want to know what you have in your bank accounts.  If you read this information, report it immediately to your department of justice wherever you are living.  It appears their disclosure letter is pre-printed and they are awarding everyone who receives one of their mailing a credit score of 496....and then claiming to be Equifax Disclosure Department at P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, VA. 30374 1800 685-1111 www.EQUIFAX.COM If  you have any further questions, they are issuing from P.O. Box 15410, Wilmington, DE. 19850  If I were you Discover Customer's I'd have them investigated by your department of criminal justice services, before supplying them with any additional information. Some people think if they are a credit card broker, they receive the amount of moneies you charge on that credit card and keep them. Unfortunately, that's the only reason why, they'd be lying about your information.

I personally, have never seen a Discover Card in my entire life.  And I'm pretty old. DISCOVER CARD BROKER.... WHAT HAPPENED TELL US.  DID YOUR STATE GIVE YOU A LOW CREDIT SCORE?

Further checking with Discover card revealed that this is a legitimate number.  I advised them that it looks like a scam, with the "Toll Free Call" displayed in the CID window.  They will be checking further.  They actually DID call me, so in this case it was not a scam.
