My husband took a message from Brittany who asked that I call this number.
When you call back it says "Thank you for calling
Discover."  You are then asked for the last four digits of your account and the last 4 digits of your SSN.  Being extremely wary of anyone who asks for my SSN, I hung up.

ANSWER!!!  Indeed the number is Discover's collection dept.  In their efforts to
contact existing customers they intentionally call other people because those people have a
name or other similarity to their customer.  That is why the recorded message left on your
machine does not include your name, account, the caller's name or any personal specifics.
In fact, if you call back the frustration is augmented when they try to use your personal information
to locate your account and find the truth that you have never had an account with Discover.
I guess if they find an account in good standing they apologize.  In fact, YOU MUST HAVE DISCOVER
IDENTIFY AND REMOVE YOUR PHONE NUMBER WHICH DISCOVER HAS BEEN ATTACHED TO THE RECORD OF THE OTHER CUSTOMER they are trying to reach or you will continue to get those calls. GET A SUPERVISOR ON THE LINE TO DO ALL THIS FOR YOU AND RECORD THE SUPERVISOR'S NAME.  Is this procedure Discover uses legal?

Called Discover customer service (number on my card), who did not recognize number. However, was transfered to Discover security who did recognize the number.

Would recommend calling customer service who can transfer you to that number.

I received several calls on my cell phone from this number. My initial contact was with Discover customer service and as others have mentioned, they didn't know anything about the calls. I had them transfer me to their Security/Collections department and they "discovered" that my cell phone number had been associated with another person's account. The agent assured me that they would disassociate my cell number with the other person's account and, after their update runs tonight, I should not receive any more calls from them.

I think 1-800-347-4918 is Discover.

I keep getting calls for Curtis Long. Been happening for about a yr to two yrs now, but each time these people leave different 800 numbers, but all times I looked up the number on google others have noted that there a ring or group of ID Theives, Discover and/or a Collection Agency. The number this girl left behind on my machine was 1-800-347-4918 with an attitude like she's a snobby/snotty gal. *People these days*

I got a call from "Discover" for my daughter who hasn't lived here since we had our number changed.  The number to call them back that I was given was 1-800-347-4918.

ANSWER:  The number is Discover's collection dept.  Their efforts include CALLING phone numbers of
any people who they determine may be the customer they are trying to reach even if a person has no
business relationship with Discover.  Respond to the call.  GET A SUPERVISOR, WRITE DOWN HIS/HER NAME ETC.
If you are not the customer they are trying to reach, MAKE SURE THAT YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS REMOVED FROM THE RECORD OF THE CUSTOMER THEY ARE TRYING TO REACH OR YOU WILL CONTINUE TO RECEIVE CALLS.
DO NOT MERELY ACCEPT AN ANSWER THAT YOUR NAME, PHONE, SS# ETC BRINGS UP NO ACCOUNT IN YOUR NAME OR THAT YOUR ACCOUNTS ARE FINE AND THEY ARE SORRY YOU WERE CALLED.

I called the 800 number on their website and they verified that the number in question is indeed a legitimate collections number. Hope this helps.

I continue to get harrassing calls from this number.  They will not leave a name, but ask for someone who used to live here.  The call starts with an automated dialer advising to "please hold for an important message".  Sometimes someone asks, other times there is nothing on the other end.  Continued harrassment is being reported to AT&T.

This is a legitimate Discover card collection call.  They called me today because my minimum payment was two days late.  FYI - if you call them back and tell them you cannot make a payment they will waive all your late fees AND YOUR FINANCE CHARGES for the current month if you let them take a payment out of your checkbook a few weeks from now.

I got a call from this number AT WORK asking for me by last name. They didn't say who they were. I googled the number, and found it on someone's Myspace page in a comment from a friend to the person saying it was Discover.

Pffft.. I'm not calling back, if someone calls and leaves a message and it's important, they'll say who they are or what they're calling in regard to. Otherwise, in my opinion, it's someone trying to sell me something.

I have received messages from 2 phone numbers: 614-283-1942 and 614-283-2201. Both leave messages for a "Colin Johnson" (I know no one by this name,) saying they are from Discover Financial services and to call back at the 800 number. I answered once and told them I was not Colin Johnson and to stop calling, and whoever it was hung up, but the calls continue.

I got a call from this number, they were asking for my girlfriend. I asked who they were so I could give her a proper message. The woman stuttered, then said "I can only give information to her".

Kinda funny, they cant even tell me their name, which is definitely non-account specific. My guess, collection agency.

This number called this morning and left a message that they were not bill collectors, nor solicitors, but that it's urgent that I call them asap.  I am leery of this.  Any idea?
