This number is legit. I got a letter saying to call them about possible fraudulent activity, but I called the fraud number on Chase's Web site instead. After explaining the situation, they assured me that this number is real. It is the Circuit City credit department, which is affiliated with Chase. After speaking with Circuit City, I informed them of my concern and advised them to give a little better explanation on their letters.

The 800 number is NOT a scam. If you are indeed a Circuit City Visa card holder, simply call the number on the back of your card. Once you get to a representative (just press 0 twice), ask him/her to transfer you to the fraud department; you may have to hold for up to 10 minutes, but once you do get to the Circuit City (Chase) fraud department, they will indeed confirm that 800-355-2998 is THEIR number.
So there it is... when you call 800-355.... they don't announce that they are Chase fraud department, because they want to verify that you are really "you" (get it?). You don't have to enter your soc... you'll have the opportunity to dial # (or 0, I can't remember), and then press 1, and you'll be transfered to a Chase fraud department rep.
So this 800 number is indeed legit.

Just got the same letter and decided to check into before calling. I also reived another letter from "chase" saying that a check I had sent them for a credit card had bounced and to call immediatly...
#1 I don't ever pay for a credit card..
#2 I only write checks for my cell bill and electric comp.
#3 I only have a circuit city credit card that I beleive is issed through chase...I have not used my card and have a balance of 0.00.
I hate these scam artists!

I got the same letter Bob did - same results. Called Chase directly with a number I obtained from their web site, had them search all their records, and they have no information in their database with my name at all.

Yes, it's a scam. I have a Circuit City Chase Manhattan Card. I've never used it. Just checked with the company (called a different # on my card) and my balance is $0.00 with no activity on my account.

This is not a legit call. It is scam. Betty above must be working with the scam company because the number was used for Chase Bank in my letter, and this is not a Chase Bank number.

I received the same thing. It is a total scam. I call the number and the first thing it ask you for is your ENTIRE SS#. Chase will only ask for the last four numbers. They are in Kennesaw, GA which is a few miles from me. I might just wait at their PO Box and confront them. Watch the news for it!

Received a letter from a credit card company requesting I call this phone number because of possible fraudulent activity on an account opened under my name. I called the credit card company rather than this number and the company indicates this number/letter is a scam, and not related to their company.
Beware of phone calls/correspondance from this number!
