I recvd a message today on my answering machine.  I called the 800# and gave the reference number.  They were trying to contact someone who I had never heard of before.  The woman was very polite and apologized for the call.  She said my number would be removed from their list.  HTH

I also had a call like this and instead of forwarding the number to my boss I decided to check it out first.  Funny thing is we get crazy calls all the time and I never tell them anything and I always hang up.  They also gave me a reference number this time, that is the only reason I wanted to look into the number.  Thank god for web sites like these and people who actually look into these bogus phone calls.

I recieved the call yesterday and it was a message telling me the same that it was not a sales call and that it was a very important personal financial matter.  I did not call back nor do I plan to, I will wait and see if they call me.

I called the number and told the girl who answered, (and began demanding the "reference number"), that my number was on the do-not-call list and that I'd be reporting them.  She said the do-not-call list does not apply to her so I said in that case she must have an internal do-not-call list and to put my phone number on it immediately.  Instead she began saying that the call was for so-and-so and was I that person, (I am not, never heard of so-and-so, and she mustn't have needed the "reference number" after all), but I did not answer her question because she did not respond to my insisting that she put my phone number on their internal do-not-call list.  Instead I repeated my demand and she repeated her question and we each began raising our voices until she hung up on me.  So now what harm will she do to me?  Will my name (from caller id) and phone number be entered in some sinister database of people suspected of harboring the fugitive so-and-so?  Will Capitol One and American Express stop sending me pre-approval solicitations in the mail every week?  Will my name pop up on the computer whenever I try to board an airplane?  Angst!!!  Existential despair!!!  (Stay tuned ... I'll let you know if they call back.)

Debt Collector
My girlfriend looked up collection agencies since I had received mistaken collection calls before.  She located a company called Park Dansan.

http://www.parkdansan.com/contact.htm

I called the 800 number on their web page and pressed 0 to talk to the operator.  I gave her the phone number and she confirmed that it was one of their many, many lines.  Knowing it was indeed them, I called the original number with the confirmation number.  They were looking for the same person the other agent had been looking for, which was not me, so they took the number off the list.

Now why couldn't the first lady just tell me that they were a collections agent when I asked.

I called them from work and the name is something like "Park Benson" - should have gotten her to spell it.  Immediately she asked for a reference number, but I told the operator that I would not give the number for security reasons until they told me what their company does.  She again insisted on the reference number to see if I was the person they were trying to contact, but I again refused until they told me what the company does.  I asked if they were a collections agency and then she ended the call.  Very uncomfortable vibe from that call.

I have received the call twice - both on my answering machine.  The beginning is cut off because it was on my answering machine.  I plan to call from work (does not show on caller ID) to find out who they are.

I cannot make out the company name either.  Just as a scam-check, does anyone else's reference number start "78" and end in "53"?

the male voice states not to hang up that it is not a telemarketing call but an important financial matter.  I can't understand the company name.  It sounds like something dent???  Not really sure.  THey leave the 800-378-3207 with a reference number.  They don't ask for anyone particular and sounds like a recording.

The same thing just happened to me.  Did you find out who they are or why they are calling.  I am not sure if I should call.  Let me know

A recorded male voice left a message on my answering machine today.  I've gotten similar calls like this before.  They don't say who they are calling for but give the business name they are calling from, although it's not clear.  It sounded like it started with an O. The recording says something about it not being a marketing call but is about a personal financial matter so please don't hang up.  The number to call back is given along with a reference number.  Can't find the phone number in the reverse look up or anywhere else.
