This is a legit number to US Banks Fraud Protection services. I didn't answer the call but called US Banks main number and asked about it and sure enough it was from their fraud division. And yes, they should NEVER ask for your full SS number always the last 4 digits. If someone asks for your full SS number you probably should end the call and call your bank.

I got a call from this number, called the number on the back of my REI Visa, and asked them if this was a legit number, and they said, Yes.

So -- how do we explain the scam calls from this number? Answer: Caller ID can be spoofed (I know because I have had multiple returned calls from people claiming my phone number called them! Plus I found a web service to spoof CallerID calls.

So -- If I was a scammer, I might want my call to appear to come from a legit REI Visa number, and if I talk directly to a person and they give me their info -- I win! and if they call the number on Caller ID and find out no fraud, oh well.

after reading a number of blogs, i looked up us bank myself. we do not have any accounts with us bank, but the number shown on their web site was not this number. us bank representative was not interested in pursuing. i thought they might at least publish a disclaimer on their web site but not. i called the number myself and they were very careful to say "there might have been activity."

Robot left message on our machine "calling for [name] about possible fraud on CC ending in xxxx, please call 800-xxx-xxxx to confirm these charges or unblock your account."

This number matches the one on my CC, so I called it and cleared it up.

That's the key, if you get a call from your "CC" company, never call the number they leave on your machine.  Call the number on the back of your card EVERY TIME!

Had to leave as "unknown" because there wasn't a better choice available. (only debt-collector, event-reminder, fax, NPO, political, prank, sms, survey, telemarketer)

Yes, it's a scam Sherlock.  Points of fact:
1.  It's an automated call.  You are only asked to answer choices 1,2 or 3.
2.  You happen to have a US Bank credit card.  (If you're reading this.)
3.  No one asks for personal information.
4.  The automated message knows your name and the last 4 digits of  your account #.

I just transferred $8K from one account to another and it immediately triggered this call to my office and home simultaneously.  Kudos to US Bank and Visa on this one.

Not sure who you talked too, but I just got of the phone with USBank and I was told the number is fraudulent. And another fact, I received two of these text messages and a phone call and I don't even have or had a cc in my life. That alone would alert me that it is fraudulent.

We were on vacation and received a call that I missed stating on the voice mail they were the fraud dept.  I called them back, went through the automated steps and it said that someone tried to withdraw 10,000 from our account.  It was my husbands card so he called back.  It was a card we do not carry, and he gave them his ss# and they said they were shutting it down.  When I got home a few days later I found the card filed and it had never even be activated so he called the number on back of the card and they did verify that it was them that called.  iT IS LEGIT, but very scary when you see all the  posts.  My advise NEVER give put your ss# and if you have the card on you call the nber on it.  However like us, if you don't have the card on you, call them and verify by another means.

This is a legit number.  They left one message and tried to get ahold of my two more times within an hour last week.  Seeing so many toll free hang ups, I didn't think it was legit... until I tried to use my card and it was blocked.  I called the number on the back of the card and they did indeed inquire if I used it.

As of 12/19/2013 This SCAM is still going on.

I just received two phone messages this evening from 800-379-8461. They reported to me that 3 charges were made to my card which I never made today. I called the number on the back of my CC and there were NO CHARGES to my card today.

This is a legitimate number for US Bank.  I goofed while using the card to buy gasoline and the next time I tried to use the card it was declined.  At the same time I got an email letting me know there was a possible fraudulent use of the card.  I had to call US Bank to get my card reactivated.  But just to be safe, of course you should call the number on your card and not give out any information to someone who calls YOU as opposed to you calling them.

I hung up when this number began an automated thing about there being a possible fraudulent charge on my credit card.  Then, to be safe, I called my credit card customer service number.  There was a fraudulent charge on my card!  The supervisor assured me that the 800-379-8461 number is one that is used by their automated fraud notification system, and that the number is legitimate.

Someone in Miami had charged nearly $700 on my card, and I have not been to Miami in 40 years, living a thousand miles from there.

If you do get calls such as this one, the best plan is NOT to give any information on the phone.  Hang up and call your credit card's customer service number.

YES, this IS LEGIT   !!!!      Called them right away.....
I got a message that this # 800-379-8461 called.  I got suspicious and immediately looked for my credit card.  LO AND BEHOLD - I could NOT find my credit card.  Knowing that I just lost my card I DID CALL back.  THANK GOODNESS - they told me my card was being used -- "in an out-of-the-ordinary" way and asked me if I made such-and-such purchases.  "NO", I did not make such purchases.  They cleared me of the purchases and closed the card account per my request.
Please note:  This phone # is not the same # on my credit card which is the number to the company of MY credit card.  This 800 # is the company for ALL credit cards.

This WAS US BANK's FRAUD DEPARTMENT!  I am so happy I called the back of my card and was told that the number that was left was a legitimate # and that someone had tried to use my card at 4 separate locations yesterday.  Only 1 of the transactions went through, the other 3 were stopped.  Please don't believe that this a scam #, because it's NOT!  But, that being said, if you're in doubt, call your Credit Card Company directly using the # on the back of the card.  And, NO I am not a part of any fraud.  Just someone who almost got taken for $900.00

I received a call from this number to my home phone...my home number is not attached to my US Bank account. They left a message advising me of fraudulent activity on my credit card.

I immediately call the number ON THE BACK OF MY CARD. The actual US Bank representative said there was no strange activity to report of. All the transactions were current and regular. Nothing out of the ordinary. I was told by the representative no one would call besides them to report such activity.

I would advise against calling the number back...they ask for all of you personal information without any sort of verification on their end. Sounds like a scam to me. Do not give them your info. Just call your bank!!

July 25, 2013    IT'S A SCAM !!!!!!  I took the number (800-379-8461) to my US Bank and they told me it was a scam.  If anyone say's it's legit, it's probably the scammer.  US Bank already knows your information, and they won't call you for it.  Play it safe and go to your bank.  I also got a call from 913-725-6115 Card Member SVCS Kansas City.  My bank called that number and found it to be a scam also.  I got called the same day, by both numbers.  I didn't answer the phone, each time.  I have caller ID.  Nothing is that important that you can't wait to go to the bank.

I received a call about potential fraud on my credit card through US Bank.  This is a real phone number because they were about to tell ME information that no one else would know but US Bank.  (Example the transactions that posted to my account).   Someone did try to use my card at a hotel and best buy.  It wasn't me!  I went into my account online the next day--the last 4 of the credit card number is changed. If it were fraud/phishing they wouldn't have issued a new credit card number.  I like how people are trolling on here that aren't even customers of this creditor.

If you believe it's a scam you can call the credit card number on the back and they can transfer you to their department.

Got a call from this same number stating that there were possible fraudulent charges and to call them back.  I checked these postings and called the US Bank number on my credit card statement instead.  I was connected to their fraud department and it was a legitimate call, and that $11,000 and $50 were charged to my account that they needed to verify.  The call was legitimate, and the charges were not.  The bank cancelled that account and issued a new card.

It's still good advice to call your bank directly using their number.

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:
