Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs is the charity, but the actual calling company is Xentel.  Please see my previous post about this number on August 28th of this year.  It has background info on Xentel.

The best way to get removed is to politely ask the caller to "Please remove my phone number from your call list, and please code the call as Not Interested."  The person in the call centre will know what this means, and will normally respect your wishes.  They may even give you a confirmation number of your removal.  I have had some success getting calls reduced using this technique.  That's the good news.  

The bad news is that you will likely need to do this every single time you get a call for a different charity represented by Xentel, or their subsidiary, Responsive Marketing Group.  But I believe this technique does work, and you may stop Xentel/RMG calls altogether.

I suppose you might argue people are being charged. Just the wrong ones.

After reading these messages glad I didn't answer.  Wish they would be stopped...this number calls my house  at least 2x a day!

Received a call from this number today. This is about the 10th one so far. I answered it and in no uncertain terms told them never to call us again even before he asked for anyone by name. Hope it works as we are also on the no-call registery. What a joke!

I  want this caller to STOP calling me!!

I am sick and tired of this number calling my house they call numerous times a day and I would like it to stop!!

I'm in /nova Scotia and I get a call from this 1800 number every day....sigh.

This number repeatly call at least 3 aday  , i pick up and nobody asnwer the phone, what do i have to do to have them stop calling

I receive a call from this number every morning. I just pick up the receiver and 'hang up' again. Someone shoud find out Which Phone Company they are registered with and SUE THE PHONE COMPANY for allowing this to continue - it is harrassment!

Annoying, to say the least. The DNCL doesn't work!

This particular 1-800 number has been calling me non-stop for 2 weeks! Every day, I have at least 2-3 calls from it. I never answer the phone if I don't recognize a number and thanks to this forum for all of the info about the telemarketers.

It makes me wonder, though, why our phone providers are giving out our numbers like this. Isn't that a violation of some sort of privacy act? Especially not having given explicit permission to do so....

Thanks for such great info! I just got called an hour ago, by this 1 800 number; of course I did not answer, and I doubt I have a message left from it. I'm in the Ottawa area, and I wonder if it is one of those numbers which is the same all over a country, or, if it changes relative to regions?

Has called repeatedly, despite my asking to be removed from call list. Now just asks for my husband (who will donate $20 to anyone) and hangs up when I say he is not available. SCAM!!

This number is for The Canadian Association Of Fire Chiefs requesting donations. If you are interested you can pay by cheque after they send you a donation form. Yous do not have to pay with debit/credit card

Yes, it is the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs, or actually, Xentel, the King Kong of charity telemarketers in Canada.  Xentel makes millions calling on behalf of many charities, and keeping about 50-80% of the donations for themselves.

The Do Not Call lists do not apply to them because they are "calling on behalf of a charitable organization".  So don't bother registering on a DNC if you expect to stop receiving these calls.

Second, I have been trying to be removed from Xentel's call lists for about five years.  Sure, you can be removed from the Fire Chief's list, but they'll still call you of behalf of the Ottawa Fire Assoc., cancer, heart, etc...  So good luck with that.

I've resorted to simply lifting the receiver then immediately hanging up when these numbers appear on call display.

Keep getting calls from these losers too. I don't answer them. I'm on the do not call list also so much for that. Is there anything we can do to stop these people?

Just got a call from 800 362 3690, I did not answer. But I often google the numbers to see if any comments are made and I found your comment. Great advise.  I make it a practice never to answer callers I do not recognize. If it is a reputable company they can leave a message. I get calls every now and then from a 800 #, from a store I sometimes shop and they leave a message telling me of sales coming up...I don't need to answer and I still find out about their sales. You pretty well know it is a telemarketer when the 800, 866, etc numbers show up. I just feel I don't want to expose myself to scams. Plus, if you happen to answer by mistake and you hear dead air for a second or two...hang up, dead air means a telemarketer is on the line. I use to be a telemarketer and the auto dialer takes a few seconds to cut in. So dead air means a telemarketer.

I just got a call from 18003823690. They asked for my wife by name and when i asked who was calling they hung up. The guy on the phone was too casual to be from a call center

Just got a call from 800-382-3690.  They called me by name, and said they were calling from the Association of Fire Chiefs.  I asked for their charity number, he went away for a bit and then said he couldn't provide the number.  I always ask for a charity number! Then get them to hang on to the phone while I check it out.  If its a legitimate charity, they'll wait for you.   Lousy scammers... boo to you.  btw if any of you rotten eggs are reading this... I never give to charities over the phone!

This number called at 9 am but I've programmed my phone to a special ring for this number. I dont even have tolook at the phone to know not to answer it.

Just got a call from that number 800-382-3690 and the guy asked for someone and i said they werent home and asked was there a message he said please let him know the Local Charity Office called, i said excuse me Local Charity Office, he said Yes Mam` I laughed and said are you serious and he hung up....crazy people by!

I DO NOT ANSWER any  800, 866, 877, etc., numbers. I only answer 'regular' long distant numbers if I recognize the number and/or 'name'. I only answer local calls if the 'name' is displayed with the number. If they really want to talk to me they'll leave a message. I think it would be a good idea for everyone to STOP ANSWERING these 800, 866, 877, etc., numbers. Then they'll stop using the phone system to deceive people.

calls often I have blocked the call

Getting this call repeatedly, weekends and evenings. Not answering it. When you answer I think even giving a negative response opens your number to more calls.:(
