Just found out they report to the credit bureau. So you need to check your credit report for false information they might have put on there.

This number 800-387-4540 keeps on harassing me for more than a week, got several calls everyday. Once I answered and there was no voice at all. There should be some tel-communication agent to clear up those numbers.

Non stop

Non stop calls. Girlfriend answered once while I was driving. She asked on my behalf if it was a call selling insurance for something and if so I don't want it. The person on the other line refused to answer and he was told not to call anymore. The calls continued, if not more frequently, and I am extremely frustrated.

I need this to stop. It's bordering harassment.

EVERYONE, this number is LEGIT. When you call, you can ask for SOLOMON. He was extremely helpful to me and figured out everything. He listened extremely well. For months it was calling me with some retard robotic voice asking for "Mike .....". I called them, and waited to speak with customer service. I do not have an HBC Credit Card, and never have. The first Rep was RUDE. She kept maintaining that I opened an account and that perhaps I am throwing away the bills. I told her to go f*** herself.

Anyways, the calls didn't stop. So i called them again. They wanted all my information to verify the account holder, something I wouldn't do. The rep got mad and said that they cannot help me if I wont verify my identity. I am not about to give some scammer my ID.

So last week, my wife and I apply for a loan. Turns out I DO have an HBC credit card with a balance of 220$. Of course this must be a mistake. i called them, and with just my postal code and street adress I access my account.

This is what happened.........................

In April, I shopped at HOME OUTFITTERS. At the check out, the lady asks me...."Would you like to sign up for HBC REWARDS/POINTS to receive 10% off todays purchase?" I said...."Hell yeah! Wrap it up!". I filled out all the details on the form, signed it and passed it back. That's when she asks me for my credit card. At the time, I had nothing on me, nadda! So too bad, no reward plan, right? So my wife hands her her credit card and makes the purchase. At the time, my wife and I were just boyfriend and girlfriend, our credit is not connected what-so-ever. SO when I said.."Sorry, I have no drivers or credit card on me"..my GF peps up and says, "Here, lets use my credit card, we can use the 10% off". Every month we pay our credit card bills in full and rarely check the details, and usually just go by common sense. Obviously I have none. So without showing any id, or a credit card, somehow I managed to successfully open a CREDIT card. haha.

Sooooooooooooo.........turns out, the STORE messed up when sending away my information and didnt include my unit number, so the mail was getting returned. For 6 months, I didnt receive a thing. My credit was ATTACKED hard!!!!!!

So, let me say this now. THIS NUMBER IS REAL. I am not a creditor or scammer trying to get you guys to believe this. I am a Homeowning responsible tax paying citizen with a credit score worthy of kings.

Once the confusion was placed aside, HBC has retracted their credit score hits, has reduced the amount of fees and interests etc.

Lastly, again, this is not a scam. With only giving my adress, they knew EVERY single detail of the transaction except my unit number. They also has the time stamp correct from my receipt. Also, we have checked all our financing, and in fact we did not pay for the items we thought we did.

They can be a***oles, most likely was a credit card call and they are exempt from the Do No Call list, which is stupid because they are who we don't want calling. They can't give information out to spouses because of the Collection Agency act because companies have been sued when spouses found out about credit card debt their other was hiding from them and they got divorced over it.

Next time tell them they are out of the country on vacation for 2weeks that will stop called for a while then you can make up something else later

Yes. It's HBC Credit and i'm bold enough to say yes I skipped paying my 20 dollar bill :(

As a side note:
I think anyone who chooses to post online should first learn how to spell, form grammatically correct sentences and use punctuation appropriately. Not that I went to finishing school or something, I still like my acronyms and slang but it's shocking how many obviously illiterate people have posted on this one thread alone.

I have been called by this number and  1 800 -667-4363  for up to 5 times a day  for the past 8 months . I fell behind due to an accident , but no sympathy card from these people ,just  ignorance and a very poor approach of how to deal and treat consumers the right way .I have told them several times on the phone that I will not give them money after being treated this way . The guy on the other line said "we are allowed to call you up to 5 times a day (24 hr period) " by law before it becomes "Harassment" . Does anyone know of this law?All my other creditors got paid  incl:Visa  .
I got in bed with some really rotten people by getting this credit card . I regret it very much , I also do NOT ever shop at any of their stores .I am almost 50 years old  ,and have never been treated this way by any business operating in Canada before .

1-800-387-4540 is the collections dept of HBC. Their process for debt collection is to look up all the names in the phone book similar to the debtor and to call and harass them. I do not have an HBC credit card.
Some very RUDE people at their collections dept. I called HBC corporate head office and complained. I also filed a complaint with CRTC. What a disgusting way to conduct business!! I will NEVER shop at the Bay again.

I'm so glad that I didn't phone this number back after reading the comments.  I'm sick of the calls that display the name "Toll Free Service." They called me sometimes 10-12 times a day between 8 am and 9 pm and totally filled up my in-box with partial messages. In total, I know I have received over 100 calls. We don't answer toll-free service calls. Today, after I found this site, I phoned the HBC credit number from the back of my HBC statement and told them I was getting harrassed.  The guy had an accent like it was a foreign call centre. Our Zellers closed this summer so perhaps many people who actually have HBC credit cards are late paying if this toll-free is indeed a valid number---but calling so often is horrible public relations and will result in my canceling my card.  A resource manual for seniors lists this number as the 1-800 for Zellers credit card/ HBC.  Zellers used to be all Canadian until it sold over a year ago.  In any case, I'm going to block this number and a similar one.  They even called at 8 am on weekends.  Maybe if enough people report excessive calls then there will be some recourse.  Thank goodness they don't have my cell number because my company doesn't do call blocking!

do you have call blocking? I found I am able to block 800 numbers by manually adding them instead of just adding the last number that called....I had to do that with another one that kept harrassing me, they look for my husband and he's been dead for 3 months and they won't leave me alone, so I block the number

Spoke with the Toronto Police today about an identity theft, as well as the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

I finally had enough time to call this number back today.  Apparently someone took a credit card under my name, rang up $2000 worth of credit, and managed to supply my phone number, but not address.  Took 6-8 hours of phonecalls and being told that they didn't have the credentials to give me information about the account, despite the fact they had the credentials to try to collect $2000 from me.  Funny joke.  Funnier?  The fact that when I asked for information regarding the application, they claimed that they "could not find it" because their systems "had recently been updated."

If these irritating people are calling you about debt, and you don't owe them something, apparently you might want to take the time to find out why they're calling you, or at the very least, check your credit score(s).  It might pay off.  If the calls don't stop, well that's going to be between me and Equifax/Transunion, and my call block for these guys.

It's legit - in my case anyway - It's Capital One who issues HBC MasterCard
The automated call stated my name and then I only had to verify the last 4 characters of postal code via multiple choice they gave. They did correctly state the amount we were overdue [still automated] - (yes we did overlook our last payment). You only then [again by multiple choice] confirm when/if you will make the payment in the last or next few days. They did not require me to give any information, but I only answered the automated call, I did not choose to speak to a rep nor did I call the number back. Nothing nefarious nor suspicious about the way the automated call was done. at least. Of course, I can understand if you call in that you have to verify your info so they can prove it's you since debt collectors are not allowed to speak to anyone else about your debt.
HOWEVER ... caller id CAN BE spoofed. There may in fact be some scammers attempting to get more information using this number as their caller ID in an attempt to look legit. I would not reply if they asked for my full credit card number or address, etc... I happened to know already that yes, I was late, and also I was not asked to give out any information, only to confirm what they already knew and was basically harmless (part of postal code). When in doubt at all, you are safest to not reply. Trust your gut :)

1-800-387-4540 is a scam. I reported this number to capital one hbc and they informed me it is NOT collections or an error processing a payment and to not give them any information. Do not give out your address or card number to them. If you call them back there is not even the option to speak to a representative. They ask for your account number which if entered would set you up. Hbc collections mails you a note staying you are late with payments or would leave a voicemail stating for (your full name) to call them back.
