Well before you can sue someone for something like this, you would have to go back to school and learn how to spell and write properly, so you would have the means to look up a lawyer to act on your behalf.  Then you'd have to pass at least grade eight so you could understand the lawyer when he or she says you have absolutely no legal grounds to sue because someone called your phone, which you presumably have in order to receive calls.

Survey
Called today, am in Toronto, at about 3:00 p.m. I was out. call display said 'Probit Inc."  Did a search and they are a Canadian survey firm owned by Ekos Research out of Ottawa. Survey firms are exempt from the DNC list.

Survey or not, I personally think that if you are on the DNC list, it should be pretty clear that you don't want ANY type of intrusive, bothersome unsolicited phone calls.

On the Probit website you can enter your phone number and they will add it to their internal do not call list - will wait and see if that actually happens. Of interest is that I had previously told Ekos to remove my number from their call list, so apparently that does not filter down to their subsidiaries?

Perhaps they need to do a survey to find out if people on the Canadian DNCL want to be called to complete surveys?

If you are trying to get a "Feel for public mood" just read the reader's comments in the daily news paper websites. The majority are quite outspoken and to the point. As for "trying to make a living": There are a lot of jobs out there that don't annoy the public with unwanted phone calls on weekends.

you can just tell them to "please remove your number from their list" if you are concerned about getting robbed or social engineering. valid points, i agree , and i would tell the same info to my mom. but it would be up to her to do surveys and up to her how she would reply in the questions - telemarketers and scammers i dont like either, but Ekos does research- very different.  but just for others out there, for the record, are ways to find out the legitimacy of a company and Ekos is legit.

1. visit their website
2. go into their offices
3. write/call their management or hr department
4. look them on bbb
5. call the government

some ways you could check out their legitimacy :)

any question always has the option to not be answered, and they simply move on to the next question. you can answer only the questions YOU want, HOW you want .

they also dont check your name, for it is not needed in a survey. for all they know your neighbour could be visiting and doing a survey with them. it doesnt matter if you live at that #or not. they cant assume that Mrs B  at this # is the one who lives there.

Ekos Research are not telemarketers folks! they dont sell a single item. they dont want money or dinatiins. relaaax :) what they want is someone to pick up the phone. they do surveys of opinion. data collected is anonymous. if someone calls, they will say they are doing a survey about a topic and ask u if you have time/ or want to participate. you can do the survey or ask them to call at a specific time instead or ask them to remove your number from their list. and thats it :) you dont have to freak them out with a whistle, they're people too and they speak english just fine.

exactly.

the number will just get called until someone responds to a survey or aaks to be removed from that surveys dialing list.

and yes, the research company is exempt

Ekos are legit. they have an office in ottawa, TO, and vancouver. they have a website on which u can read their info. the reason they dont leave vm is because they got people in a call centre calling numbers to ask respondents if thry want to do a survey, usually opinion survey. not market research. if soneobe doesnt pick up, they can technically call the number again until someone at that # completes a survey or asks them to please remove the nuber from their calling list. i worked thrre and had to bug poor people cuz i used ti get these "recycled" numbers sometimes that had been called 9+ times and i wasnt allowed to remove it from the list until a respondent actually spoke to me and asked ne to do that.

EKOS research are ok. they have an office in ottawa, toronto, and vancouver i think. they get contracts from govnt, for example, to call random #s and ask respondents if they want to do a survey. thats all. i worked there before and a number can be called every 2hrs on a given shift, until a person answers. if it goes to vm, they'll keep calling. after the #has been tried over 10x(or maybe more depending on how many phone numbers they have been generated to call), the # gets "retired" for that particular survey. your numver might get generated again in the future for a different survey. if you dont want to talk to them, listen to their intro and ask them to"remove the number from their list".

Survey
I have no problem with people doing research calls.  What I DO have a problem with, is being called for said research at 12:00am or 6:30am.

Hey folks' this works.

The first time a telemarketer calls be polite and ask them to not call again.  The second time warn them that you will blow a whistle in their ear if they call back, strongly insist they remove you from the list.

If they call back blow a Fox40 whistle into the receiver (or use an airhorn).  Problem solved.  Ignoring the calls or being polite after the first contact gets you more phone calls.  My method works.

I always get calls from them but it's on my cellphone and I never answer to my cellphone while I'm at school, so they keep calling me even when I'm sleeping. Lucky me I always put my cellphone to vibration! Do all the people who got the call from them are from USA? Because I'm a french Canadian and I get calls from them.

A pollster calling, supposedly for government, that wants to know how many children in the house are under 18 years old.   (survey)  .

Survey
1)  I'm sure that a survey of people with land lines and no caller ID will likely have some kind of bias.

2) Since the survey information is correlated to your phone number, the information is surely sold to marketers who will junk call you endlessly,   Plus, how do you know they really are legitimate?  Answering phone surveys represents a security risk as the information can be used for social engineering of identity theft or even determining ideal times to come and rob your house.

Please think about this carefully before providing **any** information to unsolicited calls.
