A job that involves calling stranger is not "decent" by any stretch of the imagination. AT least 99% of cold calls today are SCAMS. As for the 1% that aren't -- WHO CARES?

You crooks are using the phones that WE PAY FOR to MAKE MONEY for yourselves. You deserve all the abuse you get and more. If you don't like it, get off the damn phone and get a real job. In the meantime, get used to it because your so-called job is only going to get harder not easier because honest people are sick to death of you.

Telemarketer
I'm on both sides here. Yes i can understand the frustration of "so called victims". We've all experienced these types of calls, however, this is how these companies make their money, hence the name telemarketer, to market or sell via telephone. So what do you expect?

As for the telemarketers, this is their job, they do this for 8 hours every day full time and the way you people are posting on here is very arrogant and rude so I don't know what makes you think you are better than them... Put yourselves in their shoes, would you want to be treated that way? And yes the job market is tough, there are a LOT of unemployed people out there who would do anything to have a job because they also have families and need to support and pay bills just like you!

At least telemarketers are working decently to make their own living and they arent sitting on welfare eating all our taxes. Smarten up people. And if you are really that upset about these calls then just take your name off of the list, that's why that option exists.

I think theres enough hate and anomosity in this world don't you? Or maybe you lack so much self confidence that it makes you feel good to tell off a total stranger who is just simply trying to make a living.

Sorry, I'm not good in English but I write in French.

Ce numéro appelle chez nous, ça sonne en interrurbain, quand on répond, il n'y a personne au bout de la ligne. Donc on raccroche aussi vite.

I called back using *67 and a robot gave me the option to be removed from the list. After pressing 1 for this option, the robot said my number and asked me to  confirm.... seams that they have found a way to get around the block id feature, which I believe is illegal. I'm calling CRTC tomorrow to make a complaint.

this number calls me a lot - most recently two days ago - March 10th.  No messages are ever left.  I called it back, and was given an automated message to press "1" to be removed from the list.  So far they have not called me.

They use what is called predictive dialing. The machine dials numbers at random and if an available operator has an open line and your real lucky you get a voice, most times not so the machine calls you back. I'm trying a new approach by holding the company they are representing liable. I'm in the process so we'll see how it goes.

You need to calm down and see the situation from the viewpoint of us telemarketing victims. Read my reply to Telemarketer 4 Dec 2008 above. If you don't like how telemarketers are viewed by their victims, find another job. Tight job market? Well, keep looking.

You try to appear to be a reasonable telemarketer but forget you're not the only telemarketer victims face. I've had a few decent calls but most are rude, aggressive, and keep calling all the time even though they've been told not-interested several times. Then there are the creepy ones -- the hangups, the breathers, etc. And the charities and politicians who think God gave them a right to call and won't stop calling. And the scammers -- rude, abusive, give-me-your-credit-card scammers. And let's not forget all the telemarketers who ignore the DoNotCall Registry. And you want us to respond with equanimity to telemarketers. Your arrogance shows.

I am almost certain most of you are on the "do not call" list.  Yet Gemma Communications still calls to do the sales pitch.

They are breaking the law!

The best thing to do is log onto bbb.org, and put in a complaint.  If we all do it, they will soon accumulate a very long list of complaints.  Potential business who want to retain their services will discover Gemma Communications has a bad reputation and will avoid doing business with them.

None of us telemarketers "get off" on making these calls.

Working as a telemarketer is not something we do for fun - we speak with many people all day and if we do not make our sales we face possible termination - don't think you are the only one's pressured for a sale.

Honestly, we don't care if you take what we offer - the computer dials for us so don't get pissed off if there isn't anyone on the other end - just hang up.  There are hundreds of people who work in the office at one time - it's not like we're doing this in our spare time for "kicks".  Also, for the most part we contact existing customers to up-sell products that they may be interested in - after you decline 2 times we are told to end the call - if we don't do this we will face disciplinary measures such as a "write-up".

Most of up stay with this job because we have student loan debts are single income families or have to face other circumstances (such as being a landed immigrant) - this at least pays better than being a housekeeper or fast food employee.  Most of us are educated to some degree as well.

Honestly, I understand your frustration however keep in mind that all you have to do is hang up or decline our offer twice and we will "f*** off" as so many of you exquisitely put it.

Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day. :D

- Real Life Telemarketer with a Soul.

ps. Advice...
-If we ask for your spouse and they are not home and you tell us the would be available at supper - don't get pissed off when we call at that time.  Also several cultures have different standard supper times - so don't just assume we'll call at "your specific supper time".  that could be anywhere from 5-10pm.
-If you are rude to us on the phone and use curse words or say things to us such as "go kill yourself" or any similar such thing, we'll just set the computer to call you back in an hour.

They call at varying times every day.  There is never anyone there, as i've started waiting to hear if someone says something.  I've called back and gone through the "remove me from the list" options multiple times, but the calls continue.  Apparently you can reach them at 416-256-1800.  I wish I could set my phone up to call them randomly through the week with silence for 2 minutes.
