It's amazing that everyone on the Internet knows about this scam except the FCC. Where are they, asleep?

Like others who've posted here, the recording that comes up on voicemail is someone named Bob Jones but the recording that comes on when I answer this number is looking for someone who is not me. Also like others here, I have no debt.

The calls are getting ridiculous. I see no benefit to this company in making these repeated calls, and it's obviously harassing to me and everyone else they're not legitimately looking for.

After the first call, which was one of those "please hold" calls, I assigned 800-395-8289 a special ringtone so that I would not answer it automatically as I usually do. This time they didn't leave a voicemail message.

They called attempting to collect a debt, mind you, I have no outstanding debt whatsoever, they call every hour. It needs to stop, the man says his name is Bob Jones. I am also reporting them to the BBB.

this collection agency keeps calling on my cell, but they're looking for a woman I've never heard of. Besides, the call is never originated by a person, only by an automated machine. Does anyone know how to make it stop?

The Company CBVS has been calling my number looking for members of the Gary Higens family in Iowa for the last four years in spite of me sending them cease and disist letters reporting them to the attorney generals office and reporting them to the do not call registry. Once again today I was contacted by them and the answer they had for me not to be harassed by them any longer....  Change my phone number!

The 800 Service comes up on the caller ID. They are looking for my daughter who hasn't lived with me for over 9 years. I told them that and asked to have my phone taken off their list. I told them I registered with do not call. Woman's response, "Ya, we don't do that"

A recording first comes on stating to please hold.  After a moment of holding (on my 7 year-old's cell phone) someone asks for Olivia.  I have had it!  My daughter has had this number for 2 years now and I don't know anyone named Olivia (neither does my daughter).  Be aware that once I started answering the phone and "snapping" at them, she now gets calls from 602-667-0128 for the same person.  When you do a reverse search on the 800 #, there is no information but for the "Phoenix, AZ" number it is for Cavalry Investments.

I've been getting repeated calls from this number as well. I have now put them on "Call Block". The first time they called they asked for a person I don't know and then basically accused me of being that individual and owing $. I am debt free.
Tired of their early a.m. calls.

Never send anyone a copy of your SS number.  This is the worst thing you could possibly do.  You might ask for the SS number for the bill in question, but NEVER give out your personal SS number.

We too are having this same calling annoyance and we answer to get a hang up...I have to say that we have not talked to anyone but the calls are 3 to 4 times a day...we have no debt as to what others are saying so I am assuming cause this number belong to others 3 years ago it is on file with some other agencies....there needs to be legislation implemented to stop this...or call the phone company to eliminate the land line and go to cell use only...

Calls asking for a specific person, but when we call back, there's dead air.  They call 3-4 times a day.  Sometimes they only let it ring twice & hang up without leaving a message.

Okay, what this person said about this being legit is false!  If you have a debt and you "settle it", make sure you get the person you spoke with, a copy of the check, etc, anything that indicates that you really did take care of this.  As far as the calling from CBCS... DO NOT PAY THEM AT ALL!!  It is a scam, in fact, there is a group of people right now working on a class action lawsuit against these people for what they have done.  CBCS is taking old debt reports that have already been settled long ago and should not be on any type of credit report, and are re-openning them to collect on the debt, none of which goes to the original company(ex. Verizon)it goes directly CBCS, which is completely illegal!  PLEASE, IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS GETTING THESE CALLS, HIT *57 AT THE END OF EACH CALL, AFTER 3 GO TO YOUR LOCAL POLICE DEPT. AND FILE A REPORT, IT WILL REMAIN IN THEIR RECORD FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.  Go to google and type in "collection agency that goes by the name of CBCS", wait till you see what all has been said about them... and all is a scam!

linda mae is my ex daughter in law and this number calls for her on a daily basis.  i haven't seen her in over l0 years.  i have told this outfit all about her and her parents and her husband and asked them to leave me alone.  apparently they don't understand the "leave me alone" part of the request.  she ran up some hefty bills and as usual, with her family, didn't pay.  i wish they would stop calling.

This is call regarding an urgent matter for and my name, when the person got on the phone they were very nasty and rude, asking me to verify all my info including ssn which i did not give out.  they refused to send me anything in writing and said they already did, which i did not receive, and would not send me anything else, i was just supposed to forward a payment to the address they provided. i asked to speak to a supervisor and he was just as rude.

The statute of limitations has nothing to do with attempting to collect a debt.  I work in the collections industry and I can assure you, no matter how old a debt is, it is still collectable.  Statue of limitations regards how long an attorney or law office has after the last date of payment to seek litigation.  Just because someone cannot be sued does not mean she or he no longer owes the money.

For your state's statue you can check out this handy site :

http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20040116b1.asp?caret=8

Also it is your right to be treated in a fair and nonabusive manner.  If you already paid a debt, fax or mail the collections agency proof of this.  If you just flat out don't care, mail them a cease communications letter stating that you are demanding not to be contacted any longer.  Know your rights but also know the rights of the collections agency.  Never assume just because a debt is 2 or 3 years old you cannot be sued (check the page above).

Just one last thing the company you owe money to even if after 7 years does not have to grant service if you did not pay so say you owed a doctor and 8 years later you want to go back they can tell you by law that they are not taking you back until the past due is paid .

What they are doing is not legal I work in collections and at 7 years it is a statued account which means you can not try to collect it is against the law. Yet there is many out there that have no regard for the law regarding this and a collection agency in good standing usually does not buy the debt just collect the debt for a percentage. There is also ghost debt so watch your credit report and keep an eye on it because usually if a collection agency buys debt they are not the only one the company is selling it to also ask for verification in writing.
