This is not WF, if you have a first and a second this may be WF's "Partner" or could be a scam by someone/company that has the ability to know when your late on payments.  We are late and have had them leave an envelope on the door.  The content is a simple piece of paper with a note that "please contact your mortgage servicer immediately at 800-416-1472.  When you call they immediately ask for confidential information.  When you push back and refuse they still try to make you think it's WF but will give you the real WF number if you persist and say you can call them on...  WF confirmed with us that it is not them but would not share any other info.  We have the delivery and process on our CCTV system.  The data includes the delivery guy, his car, plate number and his actions.  His actions includes taking photos of the front of the house while walking up, taking a photo of the back of the envelope (there is a hand written 3 digit number on the back), and then taking a photo of the envelope on the door.  This is to verify he delivered it I am sure.  The most uncomfortable thing about the whole process is he was looking in our windows before leaving.   it is hard to tell but he may have been taking photos through the windows.  In any case it's on us for being late paying but so unethical.

I got a note taped to my door.  It was a generic note that said to contact my mortgage servicer immediately and listed this phone number.  I was leery as we don't have a mortgage!  I contacted my sheriff's department and they called.  They said the number was legitimately Wells Fargo and they (sheriff's dept) were told that Wells Fargo DOES leave these notes on their clients' doors.  Wells Fargo rep was unsure why we would have gotten one since we do not have a mortgage or any loans through Wells Fargo.  The sheriff's dept was wondering if maybe they just got the wrong address in my case.

But we did just buy this house  in January and it was a foreclosure, so I am wondering if that has something to do with it.  But Wells Fargo was not who had the foreclosure.....so I don't know!!

If you rent your house, your landlord is behind on payments.  I rent as well and received a notice on my door.  My landlord is admittedly behind on payments.  Based upon information I have gathered the mortgage must be more than 45 days behind to receive the notice on your door.

It's what I do for a living. It is not a scam. If you don't want anyone coming by your house and leaving notes, pay your mortgage on time. Otherwise, you will get someone coming by to do a property inspection.

damn.. and wow...

I gave the idiots a clue, they are reading this and fixing it right now. Now it says "6-10 digits". Seriously don't be fooled. I won't give them any more hints as to how this is an obvious scam and how to make it more legit sounding, if you have half a brain, you can figure it out and still have fun with them and enter a bunch of bogus info.

If you are bored. Call the number and put in random numbers for the account number and press #., then put in a fake ending 4 digit SN. Don't go past 25 digits on the account number. In case you aren't sure that it's a scam... what if you forget your account number? They are so stupid, they didn't even put this in as an option like a legit company. They could have phished for more info. LOL!!

Actually, I am going to test how many digits it can accept, how few and how many for fun and so they get a bunch of bogus info and waste 5x's more time than me amusing myself at their expense.

It doesn't take much to amuse me I guess, but I am still 100x's smarter than the scammers!!

...because it's a scam by a bunch of idiots. Not even a good scam. Have you ever called an 800 number where you can't get past it without entering your account info? What if you are not at a touchtone phone or forgot your account number? Missed details like that make it an obvious scam - at least to me or any even slightly smart consumer.  I like that the scam works for Spanish speaking people as well. Idiots! (scammers) LOL!!! There is a reason why these particular scam fools probably don't have legit jobs - or are in debt themselves and looking for some extra income. They are complete idiots. I actually feel sorry for them. "Hey - lets setup a fake ACD to capture account numbers for Wells Fargo" What they hell are they going to do anyway with the info? Probably too stupid to do anything with it.

I am having fun putting random bogus account numbers in on that line. It doesn't take much to amuse me, but I am still 100x's smarter than the scammers!!

it's a scam. Anyone that says it isn't is probably involved in the scam. I called the number entered like 25 random digits for my account number (totally fake as I don't have an account) then it asked for the last 4 of my SSN. Right there it's fake, the account number has to be a certain number of digits or it won't take or will say "your account number should start with a "number or letter" or something to that effect. I also called Wells Fargo and that 800 number does not exist for with Wells Fargo.

i just got one of these today and don't really know what to do.  we're pretty behind, but don't have the funds and previously they have sent letters and called, but never have they done this before.  are we looking at true foreclosure?  from what you guys are saying, maybe not, but still it's terrifying!  (especially since we just put the last of our money on the water bill, and the car to keep it from being repossessed...)

These people have come to my door two days in a row...we did not answer. Today, a woman left the 'confidential' envelope w/card inside addressed to borrower -  said to call my mortgage servicer immediately at 800-416-1472.  800notes says it's a WF phone number.  That's NOT who services my mortgage - NEVER has been.  Definitely a scam.  Report these people.  Wish I had gotten the tag # as they drove away, but they back down the driveway so you can't see it !  Ugh!

Had a poorly dressed latino in a beater car drive slowly by the house taking pictures and then pulled in driveway. He didn't know I was home.He got out of the car and walked up on the front porch.Dropped something on the porch and left.

What he didn't know was there was a .357 pistol on the other side of the door.We have had some home invasions in my town over the last few years.I don't take chances.

Wells Fargo needs a more professional way of doing this!  They must not care about the safety of their employees or the home owner.Someone could get hurt!

Door hanger left on door. I have no intention of calling that number. Have been working with WF for 3 months already on loan modification. Sounds like the HAMP (left hand) needs to let the collections (right hand) know what is going on. Every time I speak to my home pres specialist, they tell me in repeat every time I am not in collections or in foreclosure. Gone through all the modification process and am waiting on my specialist for loan mod info for new pymt amount.

Found a paper taped to the front door of our house, "Dear Borrower: URGENT NOTICE: Please contact your mortgage servicer immediately at: 800-416-1472. Thank You" Hmmmm ...
I thought this was a scam, but it turns out it's legit. We've been working with Wells Fargo for the past few months, so this raised red flags because it's not the usual number we call. However, when I was speaking with a Home Preservation Specialist today, she assured me that it's the number for their collections department, and that they sometimes ask for this information (and/or send a person to the property) to verify the condition of the property. MUCH relieved! (And no, I didn't call it; the Home Preservation Specialist recorded the condition of the property in my file.)

Many people here say that they have had a little envelope door hanger left on our front door with big red CONFIDENTIAL lettering on the outside.  A little note inside the envelop probably says "USE WELLS FARGO DOOR HANGER FROM INFOSCAPE/1-800-416-1472" and your name and address.  I can tell you what's going on, as that's my job - putting those confidential door hangers on people's doors. I am what's called an Occupancy Inspector. I get sent out (usually by your mortgage company) to answer a few basic questions for the bank. Is the house occupied (or not)? If occupied: is it occupied by the owner (mortgage holder), or a tenant, or someone else? Are there any damages? (i.e., roof leak, plumbing burst, shingles off the roof or siding...whatever) I also have to verify whether or not the utilities are on. I leave an envelope, which when opened, usually just tells you to call your mortgage company or it might only give your name, their name, and their phone #. They don't always have me leave the door hanger, though. I don't know what their criteria are on that.

So, if it's occupied, I knock & if someone answers I ask them if [name of the mortgage holder] lives there (or if not, then what's your relation to them? (i.e., relative, tenant, etc.)), and if their electric, gas & water are all on. I hand them a door hanger. If no one answers, I have to take a picture of the door hanger... well... hanging on the door (to prove I left it), take pix of the electric & gas meters (to prove I actually looked at them to determine whether utilities are on), and a water meter is rarely evident, so I just briefly turn on any spigot I see outside to see if the water is running.

To prove I was there and have the right house, and so they can see what I'm seeing to verify my work, I have to take at least 4 pix of each house: front of the house, house #, the neighborhood (a shot down the street), and the street sign. If you don't answer, I also have the pix of the meters.

From my point of view, I'm just gathering a few simple facts. From your point of view, I'm some stranger taking pictures of your house, traipsing around the side or back, and possibly even peering in a window.

When a house is vacant, I have to try all doors to make sure it's secure, and take pictures of the sides & the back of the property as well. I'm required to put a vacancy sticker on the window on (or by) the door, which basically says the house is considered vacant & there may be someone out soon to winterize it, etc. If you're occupying a house that gets a vacancy sticker - call the bank right away to say you got one & that you're still there. They'll send a message out with the inspection request next month to tell me it's actually occupied. If you don't call them & just peel the sticker off, and I still can't see that it's occupied, I'll be slapping another sticker on there. Let's not play that game. Just call them. It's OK.

The hardest part is when it's not immediately evident whether the house is occupied or not. Maybe you don't have any personal property outside, your lights are off, there's no car in the driveway, and all the blinds are pulled. How am I to know whether or not someone lives there? That's when the peering into windows and walking around the back of the property come in. I hate having to do that. I really don't want to be on people's property any more than absolutely necessary. Sometimes you go around the back & see someone in the back window (in the kitchen or something). I try to retreat as quickly as possible so as not to intrude too much, but they often catch sight of me & probably wonder what the heck I'm doing back there.

The bank sends me out every month on a bunch of properties, and although there's many that are bank-owned vacant REOs that I go inside & check out, the majority are foreclosures (or pre-foreclosures). Here's what I suggest you do to make both our lives easier. If I come and knock, don't hide behind the door/window, etc. Just answer. I'll ask if [insert mortgage holder's name here] lives here. You say yes. I'll ask if the utilities are on, you say yes. I hand you a door hanger (maybe). You take it. I say, "Have a nice day." You say, "OK - you too." I leave. Done. That's it. No fuss, no muss. And you don't have someone traipsing around the rest of your property.

Nothing saying which mortgage company, no letter head, nothing.  I called the number it does say Wells Fargo, however, our mortgage is up to date, our next payment is due on Sept 1.  We have never been late, we are not going through a re-fi, or HARP or anything like that.
When we did a refi years ago, we never received a notice like this.
I have check our account online, nothing is notated about being behind. It shows all of our payments and no late fees.

Would a Wells Fargo employee really call someone a dummy and use the word "freaking"? Come on now, I don't think so. If you we're really a WF employee, I would think you would have better ways of relating to the customer.

You said in your post "We are 100% employees of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. We are calling to try and freaking offer you assistance or begin the initial steps of getting documentation for a possible repayment plan, HAMP or HARP."

My home is scheduled for foreclosure in less than two weeks and calling the real Wells Fargo number listed on their website, we've been told it is not even an option to arrange a possible repayment plan nor HAMP nor HARP.

If this really was WF, then why would they leave a note for me to call about a repayment plan that they and their lawyer said was not possible? In fact WF isn't even able to speak to us regarding the account anymore. We were told to speak to their lawyer regarding the account and that's who we've been dealing with. Also just to mention that the only option is to pay the past due balance in full by a certain date.

So the note you claim is left for us "dummies" (as you so eloquently put it) to call about your repayment plan is a totally false claim..but then again you'd know that if you we're really a WF employee, right?

My advice would be if you get this note..*DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER"*..if worried about anything concerning your mortgage, call the number listed on their website or your loan statements.

Received the "confidential" letter with a torn piece of paper to call our mortgage lender right away. (800.416.1472) There was no bank or other identifier on the torn slip of paper.
As mentioned by others the number is answered by WELLS FARGO.

Yes our mortgage is late however we respond to every call (over 5 a day sometimes) and have have received numerous letters from our lender. (Wells Fargo)

Just saddens us to know they create, condone and continue such low class tactics.  There must be a law they are skirting by using the "we know where you live" approach.  Tacky all the way around.

Funny when we knew difficulties were coming and reached out to them in an effort to work with them, we were given a full year of paper chase, many different customer service reps claiming our paperwork was never received.  Fact is we sent the docs signature required 9 times and received signature on each send.

Yeah, they want to create a warm fuzzy marketing pitch but kick you when your down.  We know our post will do nothing however nice to put it in print..........

Most likely the case you were called was your current telephone number was at one point possibly associated with someone who has a mortgage with Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. If you get a call again, answer it, and tell the agent it's a wrong number and they will notate it as being a wrong number and that will cease calls to you. If you don't answer, they'll never know it's not the customer. Nothing to worry about really.

First this is a legit number for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. It is the number that sends you to the Mortgage Collections Department. The only reason you would be offered this number is if you are behind on your mortgage payment. Payments are due on the 1st of every month with a Wells Fargo Mortgage (with rare exceptions).

To "alert consumer" and anyone else who receives calls from us trying to get in contact with someone, the employee named Anthony is calling you from the Skip Trace Department. The reason he called you is because you were a person who is associated with the borrower on the loan. Even though you yourself aren't authorized to speak on the loan, we call because you can possibly get in contact with the borrower. We use various databases  that contain PUBLIC information to find phone numbers that possibly are associated with the account.

Also, we do have your address right there in front of us. We have to verify the address with you for security purposes to protect you dummy. Would you want us giving your address to some random dude? I think not. Also, same with the phone numbers. We have them but in order to proceed we have to verify that the numbers we obtained through various means are in fact a good point of contact for the borrower. We don't use contractors or 3rd party lenders to do this work. We are 100% employees of Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. We are calling to try and freaking offer you assistance or begin the initial steps of getting documentation for a possible repayment plan, HAMP or HARP.

We give the 1-800-416-1472 cause we know a lot of people are wary of receiving calls asking for information from a weird looking number. But all you people thinking this is a scam can keep ignoring us, missing payments, living for free and soon you'll be dealing with a different department... The Foreclosure Department.
