Citibank, like most other credit card providers, use a third party to collect if you are late in payments. Often the card company reps either don't even know about the process or they lie if they do. I would, on legal and privacy principles, NEVER answer any call from a toll-free number that does not put their business name on the caller ID. I let mine ring until voicemail picks it up, and I have a nasty message already recorded there.

Received voice mail supposedly from "citicards", ie Citi Mastercard. The message stressed that "it was not a sales call". Seemed suspicious.

I called the Citi number on the back of my card; they reported that (a) they did not recognize the number and didn't think it was theirs, (b) they could see no reason for calling me.

Presumably some kind of scam.

I've received calls from several 1-800 numbers and I think they are collection agencies that spoof the caller ID.  When I started forwarding the collection agency calls back to their number, the calls stopped, then the 1-800 calls from three different number started, very aggressively calling several times per day. I'm located in the BC lower mainland.

What I did is turn off anonymous calling (I use Vonage) and after 3 rings forward all calls to an unlisted number, so they eventually get the idea the number has been changed.

I have heard if you subscribe to Google Voicemail you can do selective number call blocking.

These numbers include:
1 866 294 1752 (collection agency)
1 800 420 1686
1 800 256 8580
1 800 561 4465

Do you think Citi honestly cares how many times you complain? It's a computer calling you, and it will keep doing it because the government won't do anything to stop it. If you have an account with them, bank or credit card, you're screwed.

As a final note - I am NOT saying that you should not pay the debts that you have incurred.   If you owe this money, then you have a moral orbligation to pay your debts.  What should NOT be happening is threats that make you feel that you HAVE to pay Citibank before you pay your rent/mortgage, food, utilities, transportation or any other NECESSITY of living.  They will try to make you feel than you MUST do this.  Look after everyithing else, and then, and ONLY then, pay them.  Your children should not starve, or anything else.  Make arrangements that they stop charging you INTEREST.  Otherwise, the amount will just get larger.  Cut up the card and give it back to them and then call a credit company that deals directly with them to do just this.  A $1200 crediit card with interest can take in excess of 10 years to pay off if they keep charging a high rate of interest.  Don't be afraid - if you are afraid, call one of the many credit companies that deal with "orderly payment of debt":  This method will NOT help your credit report, but will stop the nasty calls.  If you are seriously in debt, call a bankruptcy trustee who will ELIMIMATE your debt without you repaying your debt.  The time limit on your credit bureau report is the same (7 years).  You may not have to pay ANYTHING if the trustee decides you cannot afford it, and the company that is bothering you can no longer phone You!!!  Look up Bankruptcy Trustees in your area phone book for help.  Don't get all upset and stressed out.  This CAN and will be resolved.  Do NOT talk to the credit card collector - just like court this will hurt you - talk to your bankruptcy trustee - they will deal with your mastercard. No more stress or collection calls.   Good Luck and be more careful in the future!! Learn everything you can about credit management in the next 7 years once your name has been cleared (no they can't call your relatives or anyone else like your employer to embarass you.)

Citibank 's rep -our card is less than 30 days overdue. This is a very tough economy and guess what - we don't all work for someone that pays us exactly every week, bi weekly or monthlly - it is ENTREPRENUERS that have developed everything that you have.   While you get paid regularly, the very people that are paying you this way regularly hold back how they pay us so they can keep a few dollars interest.  This should not be personal with you - if we are late we have to pay the interest, so please be polite, there is no need for savagae and rude comments.  If we did your jobs we would be making a peons salarly of about $15 per hour - we make much more that that!!!.   What a joke, I sign my employees requests for loan documents, yet you don't trust me for 10 days without phoning my house every 20 minutes??? There is something very wrong here.  You have a job to do - so I - but I don't get paid every Friday, 15th or 30th of the month. The financial institution that gets this will make a fortune - some courtesy and respect here please.  You are only clerks following a company's collection practice - we are the ones that pioneered a collection clerk's necessity, so please, don't try to do the I'm more important than you scenario with your BS on the phone - real ENTREPRENEURS know that you are no more than a collection nobody clerk, who's voice tries to sound that they have some legal authority - what a joke.
Those of you who have received a call from this number, please do not be afraid!!  No one can hurt you, or do anything else to you.  A judge will decide, and this only happen some at least one year down the road, long enough for you to figure out your financial circumstances - don't let these people frighten or threaten you.  They are CLERKS and not legal anything that can take your house, car or children.  They are in really only less than sales clerks.

It is Citi Mastercard, well a company they hired. They called at 9am on the dot, and on a Saturday. They just wanted to inform me that my NEW balance was now over its limit (by $55) and that amount is now due. Being I just made a major purchase with the card I knew I was close to the limit. So, I asked when did the overage occur. Turns out it was the interest on the statement close that pushed me over. I told the guy, that was less then 36 hours ago when my billing month ended. I do not even have my statement from Citi yet in hand, and you are calling me now.

After 10 years with Citi never missed a payment, always pay 2 to 3 times more then my minimum payment, and they have a call center bugging me at 9 am on a Sat. This, 36 hours after the billing cycle ended and all over $55. And to top it off they informed me that my interest this month is going up by 38% from what it was the month before. From 13.5% to 19.5%. It was that extra interest that pushed my balance over.

So, I received a call from that number by someone with a horrible accent, did not pick up but they left a message. I called back the number and it was a message from Citibank. Now, I don't have a MC citibank, got a bit paranoid, and started checking for this number. I eventually just called back to speak to someone, he asked my home phone number, which I gave him, resolved not to give any other personal infos. Dude got baffled, he was like, hmm, I don't know, you don't have an account with us... So there...

We get calls from this number and alternately "Unknown Caller" at least 8-10 times per day; sometimes 3 calls within minutes of each other. The person always asks for "Chevon Bartolo" who we have never heard of. We have told them this nicely (and not so nicely) many times but they keep calling.

I didn't answer it but I called it back. It said it was Citicard Canada. Once I chose the language, it said it was directing my call to a representative. No more options to choose. So, I hanged it up. I suspected it was a "real" Citicard phone number.

Depending on where you live and the phone services provided in your area, you can block specific #'s.  If you block a # and they call you, they will hear a message that says something like 'the party you are calling is not accepting calls at this time'.  It will only relay this message to the # you've blocked, not all incoming calls.  Call your phone # & see if you have this feature and/or if you can get it.  You can block up to a dozen calls (if I remember correctly) so it IS quite handy!  Good luck!
