Scam
Luckily I didn't fall for it and call the number. First thing I noticed is that it did NOT come from the dealership or car maker. Second thing was that it lists only the make, model and year of the vehicle (most official documents also show my VIN.) Since my car is still under warranty, I was confused at first but no longer. SCAM for sure. How did this scammer even get my info???? !!!!!

I had the mail in my mail box, saying urgent attention required and so I called the stupid number. It had correct information about my name, add & car model. The enveloped looked real enough from an authentic source. But when I called them, I was stuck on call for 30 mins. He kept lowering the insurance cost thats what made me dubious. Also he kept asking for my credit card details all the time. And when I said No ,I am not interested in the offer, he got RUDE and personal and won't hang up the call!!! So, out of respect I hung him up and googled for the number which made me believe that it was SCAM and I was lucky I didn't got SCAMMED!!!

He was definitely a scamy! AND ITS A SCAM!!! BEWARE!!!

Attorney Joe:

The letter is popping up in Northern Illinois from Vehicle Protection Center purporting to market vehicle service contracts (warranties) on behalf of leading third party administrators.  They have the make, model and year of my vehicle.  I suspect they estimated when my warranty might expire assuming I drive a certain number of miles per year.  So, it made sense to get an offer about this time.  I was suspicious because there is no company logo, name or address.  Only Vehicle Protection Center and 800-420-8055.

I am an attorney that is researching issues related to companies sending extended auto warranties/vehicle service contract solicitation letters. If you have received such a letter, which included information about a vehicle that you own, or have owned in the past few years, that includes the actual make.model and year of your vehicle, please send me a copy of the letter. I am gathering info at this time for research only to outline all the companies doing this, and the states in which they have sent letters. I am investigating the source of the data that is used to make up the mailer. Please email any additional documents received, notes about any telephone call, and contact me. All information and discussions shall remain confidential. I have been posting this info for general info and as an Attorney advertisement.

In order for you to understand my interest/work, and to provide material for you to understand issues involved in these matters, I have included materials for your review below. I note though that most data obtained to use for the mailers by these companies are obtained from legal sources.

This number appeared on a mailer I received, trying to sell me extended warranty coverage on my almost new 2012 Cadillac.  The car still has almost four years of complete factory warranty.  A search revealed that this company, "Vehicle Protection Center" has a poor BBB rating and has a judgment against them by the Missouri Attorney General's office in the amount of $399,400.  This company is a scam, selling worthless warranties.

I received an auto warranty mailer today 4/17/2014.  I have a 2012 Infiniti G37 with only 20,000 miles on it; warranty is 4 year 60,000 miles and my lease ends in less than a year.  Good thing I'm not dumb enough to believe I need to purchase their warranty.  Only info on there is their 800-420-8055 number.  Somebody needs to stop those people.  Some poor unsuspecting people are probably wasting money buying an extended warranty they don't need.

Thanks for solving the mystery.   I received a mailer about extending vehicle protection.   It listed my fiancé's car with me as owner and he doesn't live here.   I wondered how my legal name would be attached to his vehicle.  But my Sirius contract has my car and his car on it.   So, it is Sirius that is selling the list.

I received this letter a few months ago. What made me suspicious was that another letter from the same company was mistakenly put in my mailbox with a neighbor's address on it, indicating that it was a mass mailing. Today I received the letter again. I already have an extended warranty on my car, so I figured it was a scam and checked online.

Got a letter from this company.  It looked so professional I thought it was some sort of recall notice for my car.  It turned out to be advertisement for vehicle warranty.  I will throw the letter away.  Only complaint is that they make it look so professional like they are from the car manufacturer.

Same letter. They have my vehicle make model and year.  I live in PA. The same kind of company keeps calling my unlisted home phone. Very rude and will not stop when asked to remove my phone number. Upon calling one number back, it was a Walmart store. Received calls with caller ID 347-329-4437, 786-607-9053.

Didn't get a call from them but did receive a mailer so I called to see what they would quote me. Well it started out with. $395 down payment and $179 per month for 15 months. Consulted the spouse and he said absolutely not. After going back and forth with them they came up with $150 down and $80.96 a month. They weren't rude but very pushy. Went from one person to another and it's like they wanted to know NOW how did you want to pay for it. In oer words they wanted a credit or debit card number in their hands.  Gosh someone should put a stop to this before they get someone who will take them up on their offer.

I only gave my American address to one company in the USA called SiriusXM so that means SiriusXM must have sold my address to these crooks, I thought SiriusXM was better than this?

SiriusXM stop selling my address, I do not like you selling my address to fraudsters.

Only SiriusXM knew my car was what it was, I feel so let down by SiriusXM that they could have done this to me.

Why would SiriusXM sell me out like this?

Does anybody know what the people at SiriusXM were thinking to sell my address to such a sinister organization as the fraudulent Vehicle Protection Center?

My vehicle was exported out of the USA to my country so I would really like to know if we can make a case against SiriusXM for selling my American address to fraudulent scammers, I?m so upset right now because I paid SiriusXM money for in vehicle music service and then they sold me out like a chump!!!

It was a cold call to get me renew my automotive extended warranty, which had recently expired.

Red flags:
1. When I ask who they were and how they obtained my phone number, there was dead silence, before they changed the subject.
2. They were pushing me hard to renew on the spot, without the option of mailing me coverage options and costs, to think about for a while.
3. If they were truly legitimate, they would have sent me detailed coverage information long BEFORE my existing warranty expired.

I recommend to stay far away from these scammers.

This is such a scam. This is one of many letters I have  received from this no name company. I don't even own the car in question anymore. This is a leased car and I only have them through the warranty anyway. All of the cars   were leased and they never have the correct car in the letters ever.
And this is only one of many through the years I have received from them. They go into the trash I don't even open them.

Got one of these letters today.  Car, purchased new, paid off in January, received title approximately 2 weeks ago from State of Kansas.  Did not call the company as had seen these letters before from deceased mother-in-laws car.  Ridiculous that someone, state of Kansas, Ford Motor Company, or the Ford Dealership, might be selling my name and personal information to a 3rd party.  Letter from Vehicle Protection Company and lists the make, model, and year of my car.

Both my husband and I received the same letters.  After researching the company, I found the following information that I wanted to share.  The company is listed with a C- rating on the St. Louis BBB site.  The local number is 636-875-1277.  The physical address is 339 Mid Rivers Mall Dr., Saint Peters, MO 63376-1516.  The BBB site also lists 4 people as members, manager, etc.  You can see the multiple complaints that have been filed with them (almost 300 in the last 3 years).

The one thing that concerns me the most is if this company illegally obtained our information.  I have submitted a complaint with the FTC.  Hopefully, something will come of it.

I got a letter with this number wanting me to extend my car warranty.  I don't even own a car of the type listed - never have, never will.  RED FLAG - If the company sending the notice needs to put threats of imprisonment or fine for "obstruction with delivery"  it is  not a company any respectable person would want to business with.  Also, notice how they aren't daring enough to put a return address on the outside or inside of the mailing.  Through their trash in the trash.
