One more time: NEVER give out personal, or financial information on a call you did not make. Caller ID can be easily faked. If you call a financial institution - you get the number. Look it up in phone book, statement, or back of credit card. NEVER call back a number from an email, fax, or text until you verify it.

Hi! Everybody!
I was given this number 1-800-432-1000 by a BOA bank teller, who advised me to call if my ordered check books did not arrive in a 14-day time frame. So I think it is not a scam number if you yourself make a phone call to them, using this number.

They can take a legitimate business number and use it to mask there scammer fake phone number.

Of course if you call the real number you get the real company.

The point is that the scammers are masquerading as BofA. They can only do that using a real business number by making an outbound call to you.

As another poster said, they can even call you with your number.

The bottom line is if it were BofA they would let you know why they are calling on your voice mail. Or if you said you felt uncomfortable giving out your information they'd give you other options.

Be smart. Don't be fools. Just don't give out your information to anyone. Tell them you'll go directly to the branch if there is an issue with your account.

You are throwing your money and peace of mind away to the pond scum.

The best defense is a great offense. I learned too the hard way.

Scammers do not care about you or the harm or misfortune the cause.

And yes while technology is great it can be and is Also used maliciously to get to your funds, no matter how much or little you have.

As another poster posted nowadays anyone can mask a number. And fake a caller id. Or even email addresses.

Don't give out any information what so ever. Call the company back at a legitimate number. Get a brick address and a persons name. Most scammers will want to get your info fast and will not reveal their contact and mailing info to you.

Resist. Don't give info even if they act legit. Get info, verify it first no matter the pressure the try to put on you. Only call back when you are 200% sure who they are.

Also get identity protection through life lock etc. and if you know or suspect fraud, notify the real company. For instance if you actually do have a BofA acct and got scammed, or any other bank, notify their fraud dept immediately.  They will work with state and local officials if a crime/ fraud has been committed. And often will make your account whole if fraud is confirmed.

Pls flow up with your real account holder.

Remember to also report all those incidents to consumer protection bureau. They are extremely helpful and resourceful to help you fight back.

Good Luck and all the best to your recovery.

I never considered this might be a scam phone number until I picked up a retuned item from Bank of America's.
Someone made a deposit in Richmond Virginia, and the item got returned from Bank of America N.A
,P.O. Box 2518
Houston, TX. 77252-2518

Now no one can explain why this happens. It's very strange. Why would a banks clearing house be located half way across the country?  When you made a deposit in one spot and the check couldn't clear where you made it from, but could....more than 2,000 miles away.

I believe that it is a scam, becasue I do not have a bank of america account; they are asking for my debit card number which is with a different bank. They are not getting any info from me, I also got emails concerning my debit card being locked. I have no account with bank of america so if I give anyone my 16 digit account number to unlock it then poof all my money is gone and out into theirs. It may not be a scam for people who actually have an account with bank of america, but it is a scam for the ones of us who do not have an account.....

I just got a call from this number on my cell phone.  I didn't answer it because I am working and I didn't recognize the number. They did not leave a voice mail.  If this was really Bank of America, I don't know why they would be calling me.  I do not have any bank accounts with them.  Our mortgage is through BOA; however, they don't even have my cell number, so I have no idea why they would be calling me.  Very strange.

...just received a call from BofA, only they're not BofA, and when I called them, the legitimate phone operator sighed and told me to report the call to my local district attorney, She also warned me not to answer it, since I'm not a member of BofA... good point...

Sounds like this scam is still going on.  800-432-1000 called my cell phone and left no message.  I checked my account on-line and did not observe any suspicious transactions.  This is most definitely NOT Bank of America Customer Service.

it is a b&a number but my wife and I was scammed out of 250 bucks. a representative from this number called and walked my wife thru the process of sending money(via western union) to a disaster relief program(supposedly) to avoid paying the taxes on 50,000 grant. 2 good 2 be true. she had applied for grants and is currently in school so it all kind of made sense. we have 4 kids, I broke my back and had spine surgery on another part of my back and I am currently going thru a disability claim. we thought this was an answer to our prayers. very cruel sobs that did this. we borrowed the money from a family member that really didn't have it and now were out of money we didn't have to begin with. i am doing this in order to hopefully save someone else in a similar position. these people are sophisticated and heartless. PLEASE BEWARE!!

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

This is the legitimate phone number of BOA, but

DON'T FORGET IT'S SO EASY NOW TO FAKE CALLER ID, SO DO NOT TRUST ANYONE WHO'S VERIFYING ANY INFO OF YOURS, BANKS  WOULD NEVER DO THAT ONLY IF YOU CALLED THEM!!!

IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE ME ON FAKING CALLER ID - CHECK ANDROID MARKET FOR CALLERIDFAKER APPS e.g.   hxxp://calleridfaker,com/     they even offer 2  minutes free call, then you have to pay.

BTW: I see all the posts about it's maybe bank of America, our business does not use BoA for anything, so they have no reason to call us. Likely a scam if that is what they are implying.

When banks legitimately call customers who may have had accounts compromised, they will tell the customer the last several charges to their account, not the other way around.

scammers use a special app to change caller identification. They can type in any number they want- bofa's, your mom's, chuck e cheeses...any number. then when you get the call, the fake number shows up. Its not that hard to grasp.

So, some people get a call from the scammers. It's not legit.
HOWEVER, some people like mike get a call from BofA and obviously it was legit.
But Not Everyone is getting the same caller.

some of you really fail logic.

1-800-432-1000 is a "compromised" number- which means you will never know from this website whether the person calling is legitimate or not. Your best bet is to call them back, not look around here to see if your call is legit or not.

It is very easy to find the correct phone number on the website, hang up on whoever you are talking to and actively calling the company directly and letting them know you received a suspicious fraud call from the company and would like to verify if it was a potential scam or a legit threat.

I'm glad you did some of your homework, unlike most people.
