They just called me. Said he (Michael) was from windows, and that they were receiving error messages or something from my computer.  Heavy accent.  A lot of background noise.  I don't remember giving windows my number.  I immediately went to Google the number (800-434-5049) and came across this sight.  I won't be calling him back.

Yep, same scenario -- guy with very heavy accent said they detected malicious software that was getting downloaded on my computer and wanted me to get on.  Told him to get TFO and hung up.

Google 'Spoofing Caller ID'!!!  All of these callers are using this type of calling.  Being on the 'Do Not Call List' or using your phone carrier's blocking system does no good as the callers/scammers just change one number of the phone number they used the previous time they called. If the companies offering the spoof call numbers were outlawed it would cut down on the unwanted calls.  Pass this information on to your friends.

After close to 100 of these calls since November 2013 and almost getting caught by one of them, I have learned to ignore any call that is 'unknown', 'private' or phone number only.  If it is a legitimate call they will leave a message.

To give yourself stress relief after one of these calls go to YouTube and look up 'telephone scammers.  These videos are a hoot!!!!

Start of Rant! This is what I did with this number yesterday!  Got a call from this number at or around 1330. When I asked the person who called to put me on the do not call list they hung up. So, I tried the number back. And when I found that the number was a good number and it let me call back. I grabbed my wife's cell phone my cell phone and my land line and began an on slot of phone call after phone call after phone call... between the three lines I called them about 150 times in about 3 hours. And all I would say is my name and that I wanted them to put me on the do not call list. I also would do things like with three of them on the phone at the same time... "Stand up... wave at each other cause you three are all on the phone with the same person... NOW PUT ME ON YOUR DO NOT CALL LIST!" They would hang up... and I would call them right back and to it all over again... and again... got to the point they would say... stop calling... I just said if you would have not called me this time... this would not be happening. I put the number on my face book page. Told all my 170 friends to start calling them - if everyone called them 12 times... in the next 30 minutes... and tell them this Scott (my last name) sent me... Put him on your do not call list. And me too. They also have caller ID... so... anyways... I have tried that number again today for a couple of time... it is disconnected. LOL LOL LOL... All they will have to do now... is to call me back one more time... and it will begin again... IF they call you... do what I did to them... They said that they were going to call the FBI... and report me... I said do it... call the FBI... I learned that they use Voice over IP with Magic jacks or something... Just so you know... it was a good time... Call them... WAIST their time... and just tell them... on the do not call list... and I even had one of them say... STOP CALL ME YOU F-BOMB!!! It was too funny... Or ask for one of the John Millers... you know the supervisor... THANK You!!! Done with Rant...

Had a call from this number yesterday from someone named Jason with a accent saying there was something

running in the background of my computer causing a virus. I had to ask him to keep repeating as he was very

hard to understand and he said he was from something like Etel Windows Support and wanted me to turn on

my computer, yeah right like a tech will call you on the phone, how stupid do these scammers think we are.

Got a call this morning- same MO as noted below.  A man with a heavy accent- "Jason" wanted to alert me to a repeated error message from my Window in regards to downloading malicious files.  Sounded like he was calling from a room full of people also making these calls-I refused to sit down in front of my computer and asked him to give me his phone # instead-

I got a call from this number.  As I had called and spoken with a Linksys rep last week to help me with my router, and while connecting devices to it, had informed me that I had a high rate of "issues" which were then resolved, I was very wary and was pretty sure that this was a scam.  When I pressed him for instruction as to how to find out what problems there were on my own, after telling me that I wouldn't be able to do it myself, he did give some basic instruction and also gave me a call back number.  I've just googled that number and have found all of these complaints.

While I gave him permission to call me back, now I know that I can just tell him to get lost!!  Thanks for the helpful posts.

Got a phone call today.  Same nonsense:  He is from Windows, they are getting error messages and need for me to get on my computer so they can see where the error is coming from.  When I called back, same guy answered and gave a different name, and then when I questioned the name of the company, he said he was associated with Windows some way.

Do not give them any info.  These people are scary.

Got a call today, he said there is something wrong with my computer,  I have multiple computers, and he could not give me any information to specify what computer was sending the error.  I said give me the case number and I will call him back, he said they don't use case numbers and they don't log calls.  He just wanted me to get in front of one of my computers and do what he tells me, I refused and told him not to call back, his name was MAX Martin..yeah..and my name is Santa Claus...
it was obviously a scam,

Called my private cell phone. I did not answer, but called the number on my landline, as I was up for the challenge. Some Indian fellow answered (sounded like he was in an office full of people) and said for the last 3 weeks, something was coming up on their system...Microsoft...and asked I run EVENTVWR. At that point, I became suspicious, and did a quick Google search. I quickly realized this was a scam, and told him I could not talk to him and hung up.

According to Microsoft:  Event viewer will log all event in your Operating System, as you use Operating System such as Windows or any other one it is possible that some system delay to startup or stop working and so on but Operating System will handle them by changing their priority or do some other task, in any Operating system you might see some events, Scammer will know this and take advantage of that to fool user. Don't fall for them, errors in Event Viewer are normal in any Operating System.

This is my contribution in gratitude for all the times others have provided info.
