I can't believe the fedral government is allowing these people to still scam people after these many years. I know there are more complaints than are just here and being reported. How can they still be allowed to act like the readers company and get away with it.

I am in the same position, they are trying to tell me I joined may 16 of this year when I know otherwise I have been receiving magazines from this company for over 2 years and I first spoke to them they promised me a set of men's and women's diamond watches and said I had 30 days to cancel so I waited 2 weeks and when I received nothing I called and cancelled then on my bank statement 2 months later I seen payments being made out to the company, I called and they said that I had a balance of 950.00$ that I could pay that or keep making the payments they wouldn't let me out of it even though I had already cancelled, so we came to an agreement that I would make the payments that would end in September 2014 and there was not to be an automatic renewal and now they are saying I owe them 748$. I called my bank and they will be printing out statements to prove that I had ben making payments longer than was necessary, and we are going to dispute. I had them block my debit card. that is my story and how I am handling them. A contract that was never signed by my hand and only voiced. isn't a real contract. so even if they wanted to try and go through court, their end would never hold. If a bunch of us were to go file lawsuits, considering our stories are extremely similar, from all over the US it wouldn't look very good for their company in front of a judge or jury.

I also fell for this scam yesterday. Since I DO get my magazines from a legitimate subscription service, I thought this was the same people. As someone said, they already have your address, name, phone number and credit card #.  I have never done business with these  people and never received any mailings from them the opt out of this service in the required time period, and it they called previously, then I was at work.

I have reported this to my credit card company but the charge was still pending, so I will be calling them back in a few days when it posts. Thanks for all the helpful information; guess I will be canceling my credit card to stop the payments.

No, They can't send you to collections. Cancel your debit card. That is the only way the drafts will stop. If they call, and they will. Just hang up the phone. If they keep calling, Call the phone company and file harrassment charges with the phone company. They don't have a leg to stand on because the address on the paperwork is an empty suite in a strip mall with a phone # that forwards to wherever they are.

So i just had the similar thing happen to me!!! In Nov i was contacted by someone saying i won a 100 gift card and all i had to do was pay 3.98 for shipping of the card n i wud also start receiving 5 magazines as a complimentary gift n i wanted to cancel than i just had to cancel within this time frame well i did that and the guy said the magazines wud still come because they were already paid for so all this time they've been coming n all ive been billed was the 3.98 THAN today i get a call from a woman named Renee with the 800 555-1212 number stating that she was calling to see how the magazines have been coming and that the 79.90 rate was going to start coming out of my account for the magazines that have come to me that she was calling to confirm and i was like wth i never signed up for anything and i explain what happened how i called and cancelled and she said the most she cud do was send me to her supervisor Chris to see if i was qualified to receive them at a discount of 39.90  a month instead of the 79.90 for the 20 months and that they had me on recording agreeing to the magazines n if i didnt pay they wud report me to the credit agency to collect it and i didnt want it on my credit report so foolish me continued to talk to chris shocked that i cud get myself into this mess. Oh n chris said i wud get a paper in the mail stating i cud make chnges within 7-10 days but not to do thta cuz it wud ruinthe cheaper rate that i was just given. than brett the bookkeeper comes on the phone n confirms my information n bam there goes 1000 dollars. Thinking i was doomed i decided to google this company and guess what first thing that pops up is all of this!!! so i immediately contacted the fraud department and I'm filing a claim after i got offf the phone with the claims department i decided to call them back and threaten them with fraud and a laywer and the firs tnumber they gave me no one ever answered and the second one i got HEDI who answered costumer service not even professional liek company name or snothing just costumer service so i threathen her to know shes fraud and i googled them and all that pops up is this fraud thing n that i will be contacting a laywer and now all of a sudden she tells me that i just signed up with them today that i cud cancel n i wa slik eok susposedly i signed up with u guys back in novemeber and she's  like nope u just did today n i can cancel you if you like. SO i was liek how come ur supervisior couldnt help me but now you can n she said he was the sales rep and shes costumer service so w.e i have her cancel it and well see if in 3 days they take off the charge to my card. oh and than i hung up and 10 min later called back realizing i didnt even give her my name that time  and got heidi AGAIN and i was like hi im jus calling to confirm that i was cancelled and she was like chelsea? and i wa sliek how do u know my name n she was like its on the caller I.D. but yes its all taken care of and we hang up. Than i realize my phone is still in my moms name who has a different last name. SO DEFINATLEY SCAM They all say ur being monitored and transfer ur call but right as they transfer ur call they know the exact conversation you just had prior..If this is a big ocmpany how do u all know who had what conversation dnt businesses get sevreal calls at a time?? LIke crazy!! Hopefully my threats get me out of this mess and than i am cancelling my credit card and changing my cell phone number that ived had for over 7 years jsut becuase of this nonsense and i have monitoring on my credit so ill check frequently for this fraud on my credit report

They lied to me and said they were my other magazine company as well.  I've already been paying them for several months now.  Is there anything that will happen to my credit if i tell them I'm going to stop paying them and report them as a fraudulent company?  If they say they will report me to a collection agency, am I required to pay the money?

I am sorry to say...but I used to work for this company about 6 months ago!! I am not any of the people that you guys have named in your complaints...but I do know most of them!! After working with the company (NAM) for about 2 weeks, I realized that the entire thing was a scam and that our "customers" not actually receiving any magazines!! If anybody should receive a call from "Readers Service" promptly hang up the phone!! DO NOT give these people any of your information!! They will charge your credit cards...and you will NOT receive any magazines!! To answer your question...NO it will not effect your credit report if you have been duped by these people and cancel your "subscription"!! You DO NOT owe these people any money!!!

Man Vega, I need to know the answer to your question as well! I too have been duped. I've been paying 49.90 for the last 6 months and receiving magazines that I don't even want! I've told them that repeatedly, but they still won't let me cancel (so they say). what if I just cancel my debit card and stop paying them? can they really send me to collections for the rest of the $698 that they say I still owe them?? I don't want my credit to be affected and they Rich the "book keeper" did say the call was recorded when they scammed me into verbally authorizing the 20 payments of $49.90.

I need help!! any ideas??

Same thing pretty much happened to me, like everyone else.
I cancelled my card so they couldn't charge me anymore, but then in the mail I started receiving the magazines.
I'm not sure what to do because they won't stop sending the magazines, I even tried to contact the actual magazines (motortrend, Espn, and like 5 more) to cancel, but they said I have to call this company, then I had to call another and another and it all went back to Nam.

I don't want to call or talk to them anymore, I already told them to cancel it but they gave me all the crap about being "past the cancellation period."

Will I get in trouble for ignoring the rest of the calls? I mean, I'm getting the magazines but I don't want them. Any ideas?

This company 800-436-8130 Magazine or NAM is a scam.  They need to be shut down immediately.  They threatened to charge my credit card with my verbal or written authorization.  If you have caller ID it appears as 1-800-555-1212 which is AT&T directory for 800 numbers.

This people called me to tell me about a renewal subscription of magazines I received in the past, they said in order for me to cancel such renewal I had to commit to 20 payments of $39.99; if I didn't the "renewal" would continue for 5 more years. I did not subscribe for any magazines for 5 years, and the magazines they told me I was subscribe to, were not even the ones I had subscribe for in the past. They had all my information, (name, phone number, address, and even my credit card number). I had never order any magazines from these people; the subscriptions I had, were done directly with the magazines. The 800 number they give you is either no answer, or the same person answers every time. The names were Rick, Brian and Gina. This people are tricking people into such subscriptions and threat you that if you cancel you will be stock with such "magazines" for a long time. They start with $69.99 for 20 months and go down to $39.99 because "they want to help you" They are ripping people off.

What an idiot I am.  I was just now duped also.  Word for word as the previous duped only the names are now, Zack, he was the one who initiated the call to me, then the supervisor got on the line whose name was Angie and then the bookkeeper, his name was Rich.  Please don't anyone else fall for this.  I call the customer service number they provided me and they answered "customer service."  When I asked them where I had called, he said NAM.  I asked the person what did NAM mean, he said "we are a magazine service" and what was really funny was that it sounded just like the same guy who called me in the first place "Zack".  These people were mean, threatening and condescending.  Now I have to close my checking account and call all my personal accounts with the change.  My reoccurring payments will now have to wait until I get this straightened out meaning, I may be late with payments and I am never late.  What a hassle these people have created for me.  Thank you Duped for the information and I'm sorry this happened to you.

NAM Readers Service is the company name.  They represented themselves as a magazine service that I had already subscribed to.  I debated with a gal calling herself Mellisa that I did not sign up for any magazine service.  She debated it with me convincing me that I had most likely signed up while on line with other offers.  I then told her to cancel my membership and she told me she could not do that.  She insisted that they had sent me out letters with an opportunity to cancel of which I had not seen.  She also insisted that they had tried to call my home on 3 other occasions in regards to the membership.  I still asked to cancel and she again insisted that I could not do that. She told me all I could do is cancel an additional 5 year membership today and reduce my payments from $69.90 to 49.90.  That is all I could do.  I then asked to speak to a supervisor.  Jonathon then went on to establish my current identification most of which he already had. The whole time I was trying so hard to remember when and how I had signed up for a magazine offer on line.  I must have debated this issue with the gal for about 15 minutes.  She repeated my address info and they seemed to have all the pertinent information about my account. I felt I had no other recourse in this transaction but to cut my losses and go for the lower rate.  Under duress I gave him all my current information.  I did not want them to take me to court or send the bill to collections and have it affect my credit..  He then passed me on to the so called bookkeeper  and cautioned me not to cancel within the 3 ? 7 days that I should answer finalization questions with all my answers  ?yes or no?. . That I should not argue with him at all during the last part or he would just hang up on me and my lower rate and next 5 year membership would not be canceled and I would be stuck with  another 5 years of magazines.  I was so upset and was so angry at myself for accidentally somehow signing up for such a thing.  They really made me feel like I had not other choice. After about 10 minutes off the phone and my emotions were more under control, I decided to look up the information about them that I had gathered from my conversations with them and found out that this company had scammed at least 58 other folks in believing they too had already established an account with them and tricked them into the same deal they offered me. I then called my bank and closed out the bank card that I had used and then called their fraud department to make sure that card number would not be used again.

I then called the company to cancel my membership with them and I informed them that I new now that they are a fraudulent company and had tricked me into this membership with them. The gal, now her name is Heidi as in many of the online blogs,.    I told her I had canceled the credit card they had on file and that they would not receive  penny from me.  I also told them that I was filing a fraudulent complaint against them.
I  told her I new she was the same gal from her voice and that she originally called herself Mellissa, and she immediately told me just from my name only that I had spoken to Jonathon and was told I could cancel  in 3 ? 7 business days and I chose to do that.  Heidi then told me she would cancel the account and I asked her to repeat my so called security code and she did whether it was real or not who knows.  She said I would receive a refund of my 49.90 within 7 to 10 business days.

After writing all these details down, I can not believe I fell for such a scam.  They were so convincing on the phone and had an answer to all my objections and questions. So this company is not being honest about there membership process.  They are disguising the ?real membership? they want you to sign up for as a ?savings alternative? to what they led you to believe you already purchased.  They are not a truthful company. Don't fall for this.  Fortunately, I lost no money since I acted so quickly to stop them in their tracks within the 3-7 business days. If this has just happened to you recently, take action now and cancel your credit card and call NAM and cancel the "new membership" from happening.

They got me too!  I thought it was my current Magazine service and I after I gave them all of my information, I went to my bank statement and called the number to my current service and it was a different company!  This NAM Magazine service tricks you into thinking it's your current service and that you were enrolled in a automatic renewal and they can cancel by locking you into another 5 years with them at a lower rate.  They also gave me a security code cause they said other companies were calling and pretending that they were your magazine service.  Ugh, you mean YOU GUYS are the company that's doing this.  I was so pissed, called back and told them to cancel it.  The next day they called me and told me that only the automatic renewal had been cancelled and asked why I had done it.  I yelled at the guy for about 10 minutes while he kept trying to tell me to calm down, but I asked him if he would be pissed if his information and credit number had been stolen and that someone had committed fraud against him.  He then said why did you give your information and trust the person then.  Why would't I?  You said you were my magazine service company.  He couldn't tell me how long I had been with him and said he didn't access to that kind of info and couldn't repeat my CC to me, if I was disputing it, I said it's ok though if you ask me for info though.  Ok, you definitely are bad people.  Do not trust this company, they are trying to rip people off!

Miss Heidi treats you like a idiot and make sure she knows how it works and the only way to get this resolved is the company's way, where do you get a magazine company looking for you social # to confirm a subscription and your bank account.  I just want to know what do they think ........we all are idiots.

They can't do anything about it, because if they do they will get in trouble as well. I called this number back 3 times in a five minute span and got the same person every time.
