I actually was on my credit report and found a $50 bill owed. I googled a number and called. Then they told me I owe more than $50. I asked them to send me a statement which they said they cannot. I also told them i wanted to call dr to check if i owe this before i blindly pay. she put me on hold and came back and said she checked and yes i owe this. laughable. i may owe money but whether this is real or a scam they clearly don't know what they are doing and i told them i will not give them any money until i get something in writing showing what i owe for. now they are calling me. if this is a legit company they need to get their stuff straight because they sound like idiots or pranksters on the phone.

left a recorded message on my cell phone with a return number to an 800 number....I returned the call and some guy with a foreign accent wanted me to confirm my ssan before telling me about something "business related"  argued with me when I refused to give him my # and finally said,  "if you don't confirm your number we cant continue with this proceeding" reminded him that his "company" had originally called me, and I returned his call as a courtesy. but I stated "that's fine with me" and hung up.  he would not share any details about his "company" or his "business" with me..............sounded like a scam to me!

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

They keep calling me several times a day. I don't answer unless I recognize the number, I let them leave a voice mail. They have never once left a voice mail so it can't be creditable. I have had credit problems in the past and when they called they almost always left a message, so I figure it is a scam.

Medical Bisiness Bureau is what the recording says when I call with my number blocked.  As people have stated; they call approx. 6-8 times over a 2-3 week period.  I never answer and they never leave a message.  As far as I am concerned if you don't leave a message as to who you are,  you will NEVER get a call back from me.  So Scam away......and please never give any kind of sensitive info over the phone.

Same story...a man with an accent called and asked for me only by first name.  Then said call was recorded and was from Medical Business Bureau.  Wanted my birthday.  Did not give it to him...told him that he called me and I should not have to verify any information for him.  I asked what it was in regards to and he said that we should have received a letter in the mail explaining it.  I said that I didn't and he said "ok" and hung up.  Ugh...people seriously have nothing better to do than try to scam others...they need to get a real job and work for their money instead of trying to steal other people's.

Got a call from this number claiming to be "Medco Business Burea".  Tried to 'verify' either my son's birthday or last 4 of SSN.

* Refused to tell me what this was about
* Refused to tell me what their company did
* Refused to send a letter, stating they had sent one on the 7th

All in all, I'd say this has scam written all over it.

Debt Collector
This company does debt collection for medical bills. The problem is that I paid my bill four months ago and they were told by the medical billing company to remove me from their call list.  I contacted the medical billing company today and told them their collection company was still harrassing me.  She put me on hold and supposedly contacted the collection company to tell them to remove me, again.  If I get another call from them I will call the police and file a compaint.

Debt Collector
They've called several times but haven't broken any FDCPA (Federal Debt Collection Practices Act) laws regarding collections as I can tell. I did collections for 5 years. I googled the company & phone number that calls 800-438-8146 here's the website..which states they've been around 80+ years and are accredited by The BBB http://www.mbb.net/ (could be a lie) As a former collector more than likely they are just skip tracing (verifying data received from prior collection agencies as they are more than likely a 3rd party collector) using collection tactics to locate you. Reverse looking up your social security number, cell/home number, or current/previous address' which can lead them hopefully to you. They can't discuss the reason for calling & often say it's an urgent business matter; unless you verify your identity. They typically ask for full name confirm, date of birth, and/or last four of ssn. There are tons of ways to deal w/ them.  Beware where you give your number online or in-person. Your name & number leaves an electronic or paper trail. Sometimes they have been known to call neighbors of your known address to gather info. They call relatives & friends. If you've ever left a reference list w/ anyone they often sale your info to agencies that allow places like this to track you. If you've filed bankruptcy & this claim was included fwd them to your attorney calls must cease or they can be sued for not corresponding w/ your attorney. Never make a payment w/o something in righting detailing discussed terms. They may make a reduced offer on an old acct & change the negotiated amt to try & seek more money. Most are very reluctant to send any physical/paper correspondence for prior said reasons. Some agencies can be reasonable if you're looking to settle your debt. In my case it's not going to happen. Know your states statute of limitations on debt collection. Here in my state anything older than 7 yrs you are not obligated to pay back as it no longer affects your credit bureau rating; however they can try to call & collect. If you make any payment no matter how small to these people even after reaching statute you have reopened the acct essentially & they can use any guidelines under FDCPA to try and collect on the debt. I say bone up on this stuff a lot of these "agents" aren't as well versed as they try to make themselves seem/ The name of the game is intimation as they are paid on commission. Seek legal action if any FDCPA law is broken you can get a nice settlement if you can catch them in the act. I usually tell them just as they claim to be recording the call so am I LOL

These guys are OBVIOUSLY trying to get your identity info., name date of birth, etc, DO NOT TELL THEM ANYTHING!!!!!!  They are total frauds, there is no Medical Business Bureau.  I told them I was reporting them to my friends in Quantico.  They are just looking to open credit in your name and worse, in youe children's name where it wouldn't be flagged for many years. BEWARE of these scam artists and do not give out you personal information, don't even confirm your real name with them!

Good lord these calls don't stop!  They ask for someone with a rather popular name (there's 4 with the name here) and won't give out any other information.  None of those 4 have accounts sent to collections, so I'm not sure why these morons are calling.  Caller ID just shows Toll Free Call.  Are they debt collectors or telemarketers?
