I received a call from this number and was suspicious it was a scam from the start.  They stated they were calling from Stamford Health.  I will call Stamford Hospital Billing to find out if it was a scam.  They stated I owned money to Stamford Hospital. However, I had not had a procedure at Stamford Hospital.

I think it's a scam as I don't have any outstanding medical bills and don't go to Stamford Hospital or St Vincent's.

It's BS. They call me ALL the time asking for my DOB. They say that is for "my protection". Right!
They say they represent Stamford Hospital. I told the woman I don't believe them and she hung up.
Don't give any info to these clowns. If a hospital wants money from you, you will get a bill.

What they are doing is Illegal.
Merchants Association of Florida dba Business Finantial Services

Calling from 1800 440 5239 and WITHOUT identifying themself properly launch a question to confirm your personal imformation asking for name and address.

There is a law that protects the privacy of the dialed person, so they HAVE TO IDENTIFY YOU before stating that it is a collection effort in case somebody else picks up the phone.

That leaves the collector the option to call you in person and firts identifying themselves properly before anything, (most probably dialed people will hang up at that point....but that is their business).

Then IF YOU WANT identify yourself they could continue stating that it is a collection effort; but they cannot obligate you to identify yourself.

That is the law; copy this text and use it in your complaint at::https://complaints.donotcall.gov

It IS a scam, a "company" phishing for information under the pretense of representing (name of hospital or medical clinic) regarding "billing matters". Deal directly with yur hospital, if in fact you have any ooutstanding bills with that particular hospital. Also, let them know, in their LEGITIMATE Billing office, that they are being misrepresented and have potential criminal and/or civil litigation against whoever is behind this 800 number and its deceptive practices! Let it go to VM, as I have done for months. AS a cancer patient with on-going treatments, I am disgusted by the illicit-minded "people" out there with self-indulgent interests. However, I have common sense and Rights on my side...

I pray for such false entities and their deceptive practices. There will be a Judgment Day!

Don't know who this caller is, but am suspicious about since it didn't give any information or identification either when I first got the automated call and asked to wait for a live representative, nor when I called the number back and was asked to wait again.  I suggest that anyone getting a call like this report it to their phone company and try to get it blocked.

So, I got a call from this number, but it was actually a number used by "Healthcare Administrative Partners."  They did billing for Norwalk Radiology, which is affiliated with Norwalk Hospital, in CT.

The Caller ID timestamp said it was received at 7:39 PM on 2/28, but their records say they called us at 12PM on 2/29, so something is a little off.  Their call-center employee didn't recognize the number either.

The number to actually reach a live person is 1-800-889-4447.  Beware, you may get stuck in phone-tree hell, then put on hold for 5-10 minutes and THEN forced to leave your name, number, and account number.  Just keep calling back instead, I got much more luck that way.

Unfortunately, they didn't have a record of my payment on file, but at least my bank did - so I could provide that info instead!

What a PITA!!

got a message from this number today asking for me by my first name. I do have a balance for services received from University Community Hospital in Tampa, Fl on 03/21/12. It seems unusual though that I would be getting any kind of collection calls on a bill thats not even a month old yet.

Unlike the other posters this number has called me three days in a row and when I pick up it's just dead air.  It's just an annoying robocall.

This number has called my house several times. I finally pushed 1 and held for about a minute then hung up. I read below that someone verified the caller ID number with it being a Stamford hospital number but I believe this company is masking or altering the caller ID displayed, especially if they are using Skype to call phones, they can show you any number they want. There is also software out there that will change your number that shows up when you call someone to anything you want it to be. I think they just "stole" the number so that if you did call the hospital billing department, the automated number would tell you the number you saw on the tv making you believe the validity of their call. Definitely a scam!

THanks. I called back based on this information. Billing office for a number of hospitals in CT, including Stamford and Norwalk. Not debt collection, per se. Probalby pre-cursor to such. I just set up a payment plan for services that weren't covered while I was unemployed. Lady was insistent...but nice.

Call saying there is a problem with my account.  When I call back I get a message is you have reached asking to enter my phone number.  It then tries to transfer me telling me I will hear a series of clicks.  Sometimes it drops me.  Other times it goes to Fitness Financial's voice mail asking for a .  I have not left a message because I suspect this is a scam.  Nothing about who they are or what they want.

I received a recorded voice mail message on my cell phone.  It sounded real - the recorded voice had my full name.  There was a part in the recording where said this is a call "from" and there was dead space, in other words it would not say who they were.  It said it was 'not' a solicitation.  It gave their hours of operation and sounded legite.

But when I called the number from my landline at work, it immediately asked if I was calling in response to a letter or from a phone call. It asked me to put in my account number.  Pretty stupid question cause if I don't know who it was what account number of mine would I know to put in.  It asked me for my home phone number.  I don't have one.  I put in my cell and it didn't recognize it.  it then said to hold, all reps were busy.  As I was waiting it said I could leave a message and receive a call back.  After holding for 5 minutes or more it finally just said to call back another time.  Wish I knew who the hell that was.

Collections for Stamford Hospital... They knew the amount of an outstanding balance I have, so it is not a scam.  They didn't ask for my SSN, just DoB.

Received a call.  Turned out to be from St. Vincent's Medical Center regarding an unpaid bill.  They were very courteous on the phone, and will be sending me an itemized bill by mail. I will not pay over the phone since there is always the chance of a scam.  After I hung up, I called the hospital and asked for their billing department.  I got a recording listing this exact phone, so it appears to be legit.

Received call from 800-440-5238 numerous times in past 2 weeks.  Same info as above: doesn't state company name and uses text-to-voice to state your name.  Filed a complaint on the National Do Not Call Registry.  Obviously a scam!

received a call from 800 440 5238. as above... voice machine says it is not a sales call and to wait on the line. when they pick up they ask you to identify yourself by giving personal information. very suspicious. Without them being able to prove who they were I waas certainly not about to give information. and even then it is not a good idea over phone. and even then no one asks for your ssn over the phone. I called tham back and their voice mail does not identify who they are. clearly a scam.

I called the hospital and they have no record of this number. If it was billing they would not be calling at night.

I got a call from this number today. They said I owe a past-due amount to Stamford Hospital and asked me my name and social security number. I said I don't have a debt with Stamford Hospital and she said that she can not go forward unless I tell them my SSN. I repeated my line and hung up.
