They are scammers appearing to be from a collection agency. They tried to scam my mother by telling her she owed money for an account that has been closed for years and wanted to arrange payments. Luckily she had her credit report from days earlier and the account was closed years ago.

Message stating my wife's full name, please call Mr. Shoe 800-443-3022 ext. 3284. This regarding an incident you were involved with on February 28th.

I checked here to see it's a scam. I never answer calls that I don't recognize on the caller id. If it's important, they'll leave a message. Anyone leaving a message not stating their company info or specific reason for call, should be ignored. If you don't have caller id, get it. ;)

My sister and I  live together. She is about to claim bankruptcy. She gets several calls a day from collectors and places that say they are lawyers and collectors. My sister owns nothing, yet has accumalated over 90,000 dollars of debt.
One number that calls her constantly and we see it on our caller ID is 1-800-443-3022. Other numbers are 513-576-5363,614-789-4821,866-797-8775-,888-285-9984. Has anyone here also received phone calls from those phone numbers and are the real collectors?

Got the same J. R. Shu calling me today from 800-433-3022 saying the same exact thing that I was involved in an incident with his client and it was so important that I contact him regarding the property.

I'm so glad I looked this up.  I searched my brain for who might be calling me.

This must be a scam.

Got a call from from this number, message left stated, "Shelly ----- (wrong name) You must contact Tori Mills for an urgent message re: your social sec. number." "Contect me today before 5 O'clock EST at 1(800)443-3022 ext.3145." "Good Luck" Checked out # on line, discovered this scam, called back, a man answered with a plain "hello",I asked for Tori," who had just stepped out. AS IMAGINED THE REST WAS A JOKE! End resolution, "I will take you off the "LIST". BAM!, Must be a hell of a lot of "Shelly's out there getting scamed, all living w. my address & ph# < all on the "LIST".

First, be it understood that I have NEVER had an account with Direct TV and that I have NEVER made any inquiries into their service offerings. Be it NOTED, I do not want nor have ever sought an Established Business Relationship with Direct-TV or any of its affiliates.  I NEVER provide such permissions to any company willingly.  Also, understand that I religiously "opt out" of all "contact" methods for all telephone and email marketeers at the first opportunity (or at least try to).  Also, note that I have NEVER agreed to ANY company that they can leave or contact me in any way other than for direct established business relationship transactions.

At some point, I called 1-888-866-3005 (like a FOOL) to try to be removed from Direct-TV's USPS Mailing lists, I never was able to reach a human through the phone menu maze but later learned some Touch-Tone combinations that help a little.

At some later point I noticed I was getting some lame "hapless old lady" messages that sounded like someone was trying to reach me (and I hoped to determine that I wanted to be removed from their mailing list though they would not have known that yet - OTHER THAN ME IGNORING THEIR ADs FOR 20 YEARS!!!!!!!).

For a week or so I ignored multiple prerecorded "hapless old lady" like messages.left though time/date were not recorded (unaware of the Form 1088 requirements at the time) in hopes they would get a hint (not likely for contract peddlers).

Made multiples attempts to call the 1-800-443-6031 number left on the recorded voicemail to no avail (apparently a bogus number to collect one's home number for later advertising barrages and harassment.  Never did reach a human.  Waited in queues for several hours. To "retain sanity", I finally gave up on this attempt.

Decided to try the main 1-888-866-3005 and waited through the queues again for hours.  Spoke with someone at 1-888-866-3005.  Informed them of my DO NOT CALL status and asked to be removed from all advertising via telephone, US Mail, etc...  They acknowledged it should not be happening but apparently were UNAWARE of my DO NOT CALL status (How is this possible if they are doing due-diligence?).

Tues 10/20/2009 6:24PM MDT  Another prerecorded "hapless old lady" like message to call 1-800-443-6031.

Tues 10/20/2009 Looked into the Form1088 and determined that records for time/data/etc must be keep.

Wed 10/21/2009 Again called the main 1-888-866-3005 (this time to record the time/date/etc... for sure) and waited through the queues again for hours.  Spoke with a customer sales plebe and eventually a Supervisor named Scott via 1-888-866-3005 (out of Arizona which I believe is MST versus MDT at this time of year) at 10:56am Arizona (or 11:56am Denver).  Informed him of my DO NOT CALL status while he confirmed that my prior request had also been noted. I again asked to be removed from all advertising via telephone, US Mail, etc... while stressing that my intention was to repeat the request per the FOrm1088 requirements to gather time/date/etc.

Thur 10/24/2009 6:58PM MDT  Another prerecorded "hapless old lady" like message to call 1-800-443-6031..

These people left a message asking for my mother and saying it's about a debt. First of all, my mother died two years ago and had an impeccable credit line. They were actually calling about MY debt. My mother's name isn't even on the account!!! How would they have my mother's name and why would they ask for her? They even said, "If this is not (my mom's name), please do not listen to the message." When I called back, the woman said she didn't see my mother's name anywhere on the account. My mother's name isn't common, so it's not a coincidence.

Very very hard to understand what the gentleman was saying - he spoke in a low gruff voice and I think he said he was calling from National Action Financial Services about an outstanding debt. Because it seemed he was making a deliberate effort to obscure his name and affiliation - I became instantly suspicious.  He was clear, though, (surprise!) in telling me to call 1-800-443-3022 x 3157

for month we were getting calls from Portfolio Recovery services. I learned from this web site that I should ignore them.

Now I am getting calls from this 800 number with similar type of messages.

What it the appropriate action to take?

Some guy with a southern accent named Gerald left a message at 8am, saying to call back at extension 3144 saying it's an urgent matter but cannot be discussed over the phone.  He is with National Action Financial Services.  I've already called them over a week ago to tell them to stop harassing me.  If they are a legitimate collections agency, they should have stopped already, as this is a violation of Federal law.

Keep getting unwanted nuisance calls from this number and also 877 829 7982 - ATT won't help without charging - ask for S... who does NOT exist at this number and repeatedly have told him that - same ole story - refuses to listen to reasoning.

Because the DO NOT CALL "LIST" does not exist when dealing with a collection agency....it works for telemarketers tring to solicit stuff to u but when someone owes a debt and provides your number as a contact # for themselves, the collectors are calling off of contracts.......the list is bull ....it does not apply to collection agencies and deliquent debts.
duh!

I absolutely agree 100% but theres a simple solution to that! Give them as much info as possible  to reach the person and ask for your phone # to be removed....

Debt Managment Companies are "SHADY".....they charge you a fee every few weeks for their services and 90% of the time never evn get in contact w your creditors until your credit report is shot beyond repair. They lie about settlement offers and they scam you out of $$$ for how ever long you retain them until its too late and your out thousands w all your debt still intact. That does sound shady....but try contacting them make sure its all your info they have it could be a case of the "real" person who owes the debt having the same name as you wrong #'s happen.....

Most of these collection agencies only get nasty and resort to harassment if they are first of all uneducated $$ hungry collectors handling your acount...and if you avoid them like the plague. Honestly all you need to do is get in contact w them and tell them truthfully your situation....that your having a hard time. These collection agencies are a lot more flexable when it comes to wrkng out the best plan for you, especially when its third party collections(the 3rd agency ur acount goes to). They're willing to do whatever arangments you can aford and 95% of the time are able to settle out your debts for pennies on the dollar. Thats the mistake everyone seems to make......avoidance only creates a bigger problem in the end.

HA!!!! Im a full time student too.....and sadly I too have some charge offs that I havent fully been able to get resolved right away. However, I do my best to keep in contact w my creditors and try my best to pay what I can. These are bills that I have legally ran up and its my moral and legal responsibility to take care of them to the best of my ability. I dont hide and avoid them and then laugh about the collectors simply doing their job. If your bill is still in the office I could give you a really good settlment on it .....considering I am somewhat in the same situation as you and can sympathize with your situation.
