Are they claiming your car "may or may not" be out of warranty and this is your "last chance" to use their services?  Do they even name the car you own listed?  Call and ask them if they are the company that only handles your car's manufacturer (Ford, Chevy, etc.) claims.  They are not - and check the Better Business Bureau's website in the place they claim to be.  Also try doing a search for "automobile warranty scams".

How exactly is this fraud?

If it is I'll take it in, but please be more specific.

I just spoke with the FTC after filing my complaint and all they told me was I should report with the FCC to get a 1-800 number revoked. Bureaucracy at work!

I have filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission demanding that, at the very least, they take action to revoke this 1-800 number. I will also be calling the FTC to speak to someone and once again demand that:
THERE IS NO REASON WHY THE GOVERNMENT CAN ALLOW SCAM ARTISTS TO CONTINUE TO OPERATOR UNDER A 1-800 NUMBER. THAT NUMBER AGAIN IS: 1-800-443-7038.

Take the letter to the post office and let them see it.. most likely they can deal with this also since its fraud via mail! Do file reports on the phone number as well.

Please do file reports with the FBI, your state attorney general and Department Of Justice,FTC & FCC..

I will definitely be calling the dealership and the Secretary of State's Office. I am concerned that these scam groups are unlawfully obtaining information in order to carry out these scams. Worse, if state law allows them to do it legally, as mentioned above, by buying the information from Secretary of State's office! They got the name, address and the fact that it's a new car by some means. No other information to identify them other than the 1-800 number in the scam letter. This is a huge problem. The most the government will probably do is maybe shut down the 1-800 number. And then these scam artists can just obtain a new 1-800 number. To my knowledge, I was not called by these people. But I received a letter in the mail to call them. Is this not MAIL FRAUD? Of course my new Attorney General is a Republican, so he's hard at work trying to make abortion all but illegal in my state, as well as all kinds of other regressive actions. So I'm not counting on getting much results from my Secretary of State.

Why would you 'panic'? You did the right thing. Got information and didn't act on it. She couldn't 'force' you to do anything.

I called on this number this morning thinking that the letter I received is from my dealership. Since the letter showed a $2000 fine and/or 5 years of jail with anyone trying to obstruct delivery of this mail, I thought this is a mandatory action to take care of my warranty. The letter says CALL IMMEDIATELY which made me call them and they ask me to get a pen and a paper to write down about what deal they are providing for a six (6) year warranty. Since I did not know it may be a scam I did write down the details and in the end the representative asks me for the method of payment without asking me if I want to take the warranty extension. I told her that I need to double check if this is mandatory and that I will call her back before my warranty expires (They did not know the date of my warranty expiration nor did they know the dealership location of my car), she asks me "What makes you think twice about this deal?, Is the down payment stopping you to make this payment? How difficult is it to answer to my question? Why can't you answer to my questions?" This is where I have to admit I did really panic and I told her not to force me to take this and that I have to hang up. Of course I should have done my research before trying to call on this number. Thanks to all of those above who helped me understand its a scam. Phew!

Loved the big note on the front that threatens a $2,000 fine and 5 years in jail to any person interfering with or obstructing the delivery of this letter.  Too bad there's no return address - I can't rip it up and send it back to them.

We have received these letters, also. I called my dealership today and found out the company sending them buys their info from your Secretary of State's office. They wait a year or so, and start sending these out. I called the 800 number this morning, and when I asked to be removed from the database because I am leasing a car, the guy asked me why I would lease. Hopefully he did as I asked.

It was not a phone call, but just as annoying.
